Happy Birthday Giddy. Been going down Villa since 1965. For me the best and most exciting right back down Villa Park in the last 50 years or so.
-
The best attacking full back I have seen in my 50 years going down the Villa, such an exciting player, when he posts on facebook its obvious Villa is the club in his heart, Happy Birthday John.
-
I was only a kid when he left, 9 I think, but was a lot more gutted over him going than I was Gray. I had three favourite players as a youngster, Little, Gidman and Linton.
Happy Birthday John.
-
Happy birthday Giddy, loved watching him bomb down the wing
-
Happy Birthday Giddy..great memories of you marauding down the wing!
-
Great player - like with Little, I never understood why he didn't get more England caps. Happy birthday and thanks for the great memories.
-
Happy birthday Giddy. Would say he is the best right back i have ever seen in a Villa shirt in over 50 years of following us.He was no mug defending, but it was his attacking skills that most people liked him for.I was heartbroken when Saunders decided to sell him,but to be fair to Saunders ,the guy he replaced him with Kenny Swain did'nt do to bad
-
Still the best right back in my time watching the Villa for me.
-
Happy birthday, Giddy.
Very true about the lack of England caps. Phil Neal wasn't half the player Giddy was but then he played for Liverpool.
-
What a fantastic kit.
-
He was at the 57/77/82 celebration in 2007. When Ron Saunders was mentioned he walked off stage. It was good to see he was as arsey as ever.
-
Does he still live in Spain ?

Interesting read (http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/the-crazy-life-and-times-of-aston-villa-and-manchester-uniteds-full-back-john-gidman/)

Happy Birthday! First autograph I got in January 1973. I still have the programme!
-
When I was at Uni in Liverpol he used to come and watch some of our matches. He must have lived around Childwall. I think he used to be walking a Dog. Mid 80s are a hazy memory now

Linton? Why, hardly comparable with the other two?!

Gidman was good, but not as good for the club as Sir Ron

I was about 8 at the time, logic plays no part. And so many years on my memory plays no part either so I don't have a clue why.
-
Seem to recall Linton being very average but a real trier. He took some real racial abuse which cant have been easy for him
-
Recall very well that Gidmans career was on the line due to the firework incident. I was only 10 but remember the coverage in the Mail
-
The best right back we've ever had in my opinion. It was a scandal he only won one England cap.

Hi Big Dick.
Do you remember JG being picked against Luxembourg? Revie said it was the best England debut he had seen since Duncan Edwards -then never picked him again!!
