Title: Leicester City vs Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Dave on January 08, 2015, 08:34:01 PM
Filbert Street Walkers Stadium The King Power Stadium, Saturday, 3pm.

Leicester have just signed one of the hottest young strikers in Europe, which bodes well for us.

Either way

Kramaric + Schwarzer + Albrighton starting with a a point to prove will certainly make the match more interesting than it otherwise might have been. Not much, though.

When the FA see it's us he would be playing I would not be surprised to see them cut a few corners just to piss us off. That's what they usually when it affects us.

Hope the goal line technology fails, they score a perfectly good goal just like Pat McMahons- the referee doesn't see it and as a result they get relegated at the end of the season.

He won't play against us . From Sky 'Nigel Pearson’s struggling Premier League side have agreed a deal to sign the Croatia striker for an undisclosed fee from FC Rijeka and the 23-year-old has passed a medical.

However, Kramaric must now obtain a work permit for the transfer to go through but there remains some doubt about him meeting the necessary criteria at hearing which is scheduled for next week.'

Gabby had his good (ish) game for awhile so that will be that till around mid January.

You might be right about Gabby but I reckon he'll turn up for the Liverpool game.

Our record away at Leicester isn't great going for 1-1

Seems like only decision Lambert has to make is on the right of the attacking three. Cole and Westwood are certs to come back in. I'd have Bacuna but suspect it will be Cleverley. Really need a win here

---------------Guzan
Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho
----Sanchez, Westwood
Bacuna, Cole, Gabby
------------Benteke-------

Given, Lowton, Rico, Cleverley, Weimann, Grealish, Baker?,

I reckon this one could be quite tricky. They've played well the last few games but their way of playing might suit us. I'll go for 2-2. Benteke with both ours.  Matt Elliot and Steve Guppy for them.

I'm pretty confident on the pattern of the game but much less on the score

I reckon westwood and sanchez will dominate the ball, we'll not create many chances and Leicester will have a spell of twenty minutes where they create 2-3 good chances

1-0 either way I reckon

Hope we are not catching them just as they are starting to hit a bit of form.  It is one of those must wins, and if Lambert is possitive and we get at them in the middle and use pace down the flanks then I think we should have this one.  But if he goes the negative route it is likely to be a 0-0 or worse.

With Benteke you know you always have a chance so will go 1-2 to us with him, and Bacuna to score for us.

From the Guardian's "Premier League: 10 things to look out for this weekend"

1) No thrilla for Villa

“We’re working on something new and the lads seem to enjoy it,” said Paul Lambert after introducing a short-passing build-from-the-back approach in early December. Whether the players are still enjoying it is unclear (though Lambert insists that they are), but fans of entertainment certainly aren’t. Villa are by some distance the Premier League’s lowest scorers. In the 20 league games they’ve played this season, they have failed to score 11 times. And they’ve scored just once in their last five Premier League fixtures. And the long-suffering Villa fans could be forgiven for casting covetous glances at this weekend’s opponents Leicester City. While Villa are unable to fork out the £2.5m asked by Manchester City for Scott Sinclair the Foxes have broken their club transfer record for the second time in little over six months – the £9.7m spent on Andrej Kramaric eclipsing the £8m purchase of Leonardo Ulloa in the summer. Good job then that Lambert’s team have a defensive record better than seven of the 11 teams above them in the table. And, stats fans, only one team – QPR – have conceded more goals than Leicester this season. It’s the entirely resistible force meeting the very much moveable object. So: a third Villa 0-0 on the bounce?

I think we will beat these. They've picked up a little since we played them the other week, but Cambiasso apart, they're a Championship side and very low on quality.

Can't argue too much with that piece.  Except the 0-0 thing does seem to be more at home.  Can see this one being tight, but think there will be some goals at least.

They, along with Hull, are the only team where it was actually a bit of a crime that we only scored two goals.

I know they've picked up and taken four points, knocked Newcastle out etc, but there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be going there and beating them. I agree it will likely be low scoring.

1-0 Villa with Benteke getting an early goal or something like that, wouldn't surprise me.

I think we've had a bit of luck for once, playing opposition at an okay time.

Mahrez, who was their best player at Villa Park is at the African Cup of Nations, as is Schlupp (who ran around kicking Villa players). They also seem to have a few central midfielders out. Add to that the fact that I'm assuming this new signing for a club record won't be registered in time to play us and I think we have a decent chance.

Like us, they may struggle to set up their main striker.

I reckon Albrighton will probably start though, which is a worry.

I'm going for 1-1.

Of the games I've been to this year Leicester and QPR have been comfortably the two worst teams we've played, their new signing isn't playing and we've got a better team than theirs. All of this points to an away win even if Lambert sends the players out with the game plan to have 0 shots on goal. Benteke is due another goal and I fancy Bacuna to net, 1-2 Villans.

TEAM NEWS Leicester manager Nigel Pearson is without a number of key players ahead of his clash with Aston Villa. Esteban Cambiasso (hip), Kasper Schmeichel (foot), Jeff Schlupp (knee) and Riyad Mahrez, on African Nations Cup duty with Algeria, are all unavailable, whilst Danny Drinkwater is doubtful with a groin injury. Dean Hammond and Andy King come back into contention after recent knocks, whilst Mark Schwarzer is also added to the squad following his move from Chelsea this week. Aston Villa skipper Ron Vlaar has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Gabriel Agbonlahor has shrugged off a minor hamstring complaint which forced him to miss the 1-0 FA Cup win over Blackpool.

With due respect to Leicester current run of good play, results  and form of their players I think their GK issues and set up could see a 3 or more goal occurrence for Villa. Unfortunately for the foxes marhez is away on afcon duty and his attacking display been impressive . As leicester  play 4 4 2 they are being  left  open in midfield when they look to press when villa have the ball.  Villa plan to dominate the possession will mean villa will dominate this middle  area with both Westwood and sanchez. Against a team that will tire from pressing  oportunties can occur for the attacking players.
1-4 VILLLA  :D

5-0. Remember it well - Crouch got a couple I think? And wasn't it the game where that idiot came on the pitch to remonstrate with the Leicester keeper (Ian Walker)?

Think he did and then I'm sure he was dropped and never appeared for us again.

1-1.  Deehan for us, Lynex for them.

one of the first games I went in the holte was a midweek league cup tie against Leicester - finished in a draw and I think lynex scored for them. We won on penalties eventually. I loved it.

He used to live next door to my mate in Nuneaton too, for a while.

Lambert will go to keep a clean sheet, we will piss around with possession without doing anything with it and they will score from 1 of their few efforts on goal which will be enough to beat us. 1-0 Leicester

Wont Leicester play Schwarzer?

Must win game after our recent form and considering the next few games.

So, likely starting line-up then?
-----------Guzan------------
Hutton Okore Clarke Sissoko
----Sanchez Westwood----
--------Cleverly--------
---Cole Benteke Gabby---

Ideally I'd like Gabby, N'Zog and Clevers on the bench but that seems extremely unlikely.

I'd go

Guzan - Hutton Okore clark cissokho - westwood sanchez - Weimann cole gabby - benteke

Weimann is the weakest link and I'd consider bacuna on the right

2-0 Leicester. A goal in each half. Just can't see us scoring.

Seems likely and he'll probably play a blinder and we'll lose 1-0

Very windy , we must keep the ball on the deck which should suit our new style of play.

I'm just hoping Albrighton doesn't come in and have a stormer. He replaced Cambiasso in their last game, so he may well get a start today. His chance hasn't really come yet.

I drove up straight from work last night and stayed just outside Leicester. Glad that I brought my ear plugs because it was a howling gale outside. The wind is still whistling through downtown Leicester

Brave man. Reminded me of something a Rik Mayall character would say. Have I got a smoke bomb in my underpants or am I just pleased to see you?!

Still windy in Leicester (and everywhere else!) so we need to keep it on the ground. These difficult conditions should suit Lambert's new stye of play, hopefully.

What a plonker.

Convincing Villa win today. 4-1

Post match lots saying we should give Lambert more time as he's getting it right.

Less pressure away from home and I think we'll nick a win. 2-0 Villa.
