Title: Aston Villa vs Sunderland Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Dave on December 26, 2014, 05:23:00 PM
Would be lovely to turn our new-found love of possession into goals and points.

2-0. Benteke and Weimann.

1-1.

Since the 8 nil Sunderland haven't actually conceded that many goals, especially away from home.

One of those games we have actually most of the possession but waste too many chances and concede a cheap goal I fear.

Think we're more likely to beat Palace of the two home games coming up.

As an aside I've moved house recently and despite changing my address the tickets I ordered on Viagogo have predictably been sent to my old house so with it being xmas no chance of them coming on it.

Viagogo have been quite good and said I can get a reprint from the Trinity Road Kiosks on matchday, anyone know whereabouts they are in relation the stand.

Was thinking of just going down to Villa Village tomorrow with confirmation email and attempting to get a reprint that way.

Just to add the viagogo collection system is really efficient. All tickets laid out alphabetically and plenty of staff so there's no delay or fannying around waiting for the ticket.

Sunderland won their cup final last weekend so hopefully they will have their feet up for a couple of games now. Judging by yesterday (1-3 Hull) they have !
Title: Re: Aston Villa vs Sunderland Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Ads on December 27, 2014, 09:24:29 AM
Thought it was two poor teams last weekend, with Sunderland edging the chances. I noticed they didn't have any full backs, not sure whether they'll have players back now, but they seemed to play in a 10 yard corridor through the middle. Them getting beat yesterday was no real surprise based on that.

Draw. This one I think will actually be tougher than Swansea. Largely because of fitness. That said, they seem to be a side who tires easily so I would hope they'll be suffering as much as us. This could go either way. I'd really like to see us get at them and keep on the front foot.

Disappointing result yesterday but the performances are improving. If Benteke is not at his absolute best then we are struggling to score. Cleverley and Cissokho are continuing to struggle but at least Lambert changed things early on yesterday. Poor again from Guzan for their goal yesterday.

Goes without saying that we need to make changes, the chances of Vlaar making it through 2 games in 3 days must be pretty slim so maybe revert to our usual back four. Would look to get Bacuna into the midfield with Cleverley dropping out. Weimann and Grealish to bring some freshness up top. Gabby to sit it out.

-----------------Guzan
Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho
---------------Sanchez-----------
-----------Bacuna, Delph
----------------Grealish
------------Weimann, Benteke

On the fitness front Sunderland have little more to choose from than we do.  Perfect game to let Grealish start, sat off Tekkers, however it'll be Weimann obviously.  2-1 Villa.  Got to be 3 points lets not start heading back towards the bottom 3!

Any competently organized  team that comes to Villa Park with a plan of sitting back in numbers and picking us off will get a result. So much is clear.

Fortunately for us, Gus Poyet is a maverick and may decide to chance his arm. If he does, I think we will win. If he plays for the draw I think he will leave with all three points.

I hope he switches it up and rotates, I'd drop Cleverley and start Grealish, Bacuna and N'Zog.

I'd also drop Cissokho if Vlaar can manage this many games so soon, him with Okore, Clark and Hutton looks pretty solid to me.

The width can come from either Bacuna, Zoggy or Grealish and we wouldn't have to see any of Aly's piss poor crossing.

            -Guzan-

Hutton--Okore--Vlaar--Clark

     Sanchez----Delph

Bacuna---Grealish---N'Zogbia

            -Benteke-

Weimann will definitely start and probably Cleverley, so it's a toss up of any of my forward 3 who will replace Gabby.

We don't have that many key injuries. The opposition aren't in good form. We have a new plan. We are at home. There seems no excuse why we can't play some football today and get a good result and performance.
