Title: Was it really 25 years ago today - Aston Vila 3 - 0 Manchester United

Platt taking them apart after a goalless first half, all the goals in front of a rammed Holte, Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister looking second rate, "Thank you very much for Paul McGrath" and "Fergie, Fergie on the dole".

The stuff of dreams.

Footage anyone?

Twenty five years. S**t, that is frightening. What a fantastic period October to March was.

Didn't we beat Manure, Arsenal and Chelsea by an aggregate of 8-1?

As well as Platt, Cowans and McGrath, Tony Daley produced some of his best form during that period.  On song, he was such an exciting player to watch and scored some really great goals.  The goal he scored at Chelsea that season was top quality.

Tony Daley's one at The Hawthorns in the cup wasn't bad either.

One of the best things about that goal was it was scored in front of our fans at the Smethwick End, we scored a fair few goals and won a fair few games at the Hawthorns in the 70s and 80s, but our goals always seemed to be scored at the Birmingham Road End.

Indeed we did. I went to all 3 games.

Best Xmas as a Villa fan ever.

To be fair, both Man Ure and Chelsea were shite at the time, Arsenal were a good team though and that was probably my favourite of the three as we really had to fight and battle hard for that one.

Chelsea were decent that season finishing 5th. Their best finish for yonks. Manure were shit though. Finished 13th, Citeh were 14th, both 5 points above the drop.

I think there were some manic celebrations for a Dennis Mortimer winner at The Smethwick End in a Milk Cup tie in the mid eighties. Clive 'the book' Thomas sent off Gary Owen for an assault on Paul Birch on the touchline. I would have been thirteen or fourteen and it was my first visit to The Hawthorns. The atmosphere was electric.
