Nah, Delph for Rico, even at 80 per cent.

I want to see another solid performance. Derby matches are unpredictable so expecting a win IMO goes out of the window. It would be nice off course, but real evidence of improvement in our play is a big first request for me. Keep the ball, knock it around, create chances. We have one of the top forwards in the PL up front, lets get him the ball in dangerous areas. We are better than this lot and if we play like we can, like we have seen (all too infrequently) then we can definitely win today. We have to earn it.

Id have gone with Delph and Weimann and had Zog and Richardson on the bench. We've handed them the initiative I fear.

Stranger still is the selection of N'Zogbia, possibly the last player I would think of playing in a derby.

He tore them apart in the first half 2 years ago, so fingers crossed he remembers how to play like that.

Nzogbia is a surprise. Though he set up both goals last time he played there. Perhaps the focus is on pace, or perhaps it's a simpler 'don't change a winning team' mentality
Title: Re: West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on December 13, 2014, 02:16:37 PM
I think the thought is N'Zogbia is a good option playing with Benteke and can have a go at their defence creating space for Benteke. We'll see, because we all know he can do it. There just needs to be a number of stars in alignment for it to happen.

Nzogbia has been diabolical last few weeks . Richardson is very defensive minded . My opinion. You're entitled to yours too.

Not sure why N'Zog's been preferred over Weimann (and Grealish for that matter). Maybe Weimann's been unwell in the last few days, there's a lot of colds going around. More likely Lambert is thinking that he wants to continue with the team that won last week (or as close to it as he can). Probably the latter with Lambert.

I thought richardson actually did well be Leicester and offers a bit of penetration and pace in support of the attacks

It's a fast team we've got starting today

Cant understand Lambert giving Nzogbia yet another chance.

Our bench does look very strong, Bacuna came on last week yet Herd is on the bench ahead of him this week. Hmm

Agree with leaving Delph in reserve, big game for Richardson this.

Looks like they will be lining up 4312. Morrison tends to play well against us and is one to watch.

Last chance for nzogbia to do something. I want assist or goal at least today. Ive said that so many times thou .
He is very lucky but I wouldn't have brought in Weimann back in instead , we looked better without last week , he needs to finish these easy chances.

But the bench looks better

Why Nzogbia is picked I will never know. Not seen anything from him to say he is anything but a poor man's Albrighton. It was time to drop him a month ago.

I understand Richardson starting. He gives the midfield more energy.

If  Westlife were fit (or Fab was fully match fit) then i hope that Zog would have been dropped.

As it is, this has to be his last chance to impress.

We need Delph to drive the ball out of midfield. Zogbia has been absolute bollocks again. We're still reasonably comfortable. Then again, largely because they're shite. Looks like a 0-0 to me.

Delph for N'Zogbia you'd think, unless Cleverley is struggling with his injury

Don't want to tempt fate but the Baggies have been crap. There's an obvious risk they score late on and it's too late for us.

"The major incident was the sending off of Kieran Richardson and that's allowed West Brom to see more of the ball and chances. I'm not convinced about the red card, maybe in years gone by that would only be a yellow card, although he did stretch and lead with studs. Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert will certainly be happy to get his side in at the break."

I see John Motson hasn't been watching the game. We've had much more of the ball.

Our passing has gone awful. It had been quite good. And theyre getting down the channels

It looks a matter of time

I think we need to go two banks of four. There's too much space down the channels

they will score in a minute. We need to regain the shape and composure. With all these chances the law of averages says one will get in, crazy deflection or some crap like that!

It would be brave to bring grealish on but we need someone to get on the ball and help us keep it. It's just bouncing off them.

Well that was coming. Inevitable. I forgot gardner was playing or it would have been obvious who'd get it

Yeah we've had ten men for an hour for gods sake. We're obviously gonna be under pressure. It's the inability to break and get up the pitch that's been the problem, much more than any Lambert mistakes

Benteke has been poor today. Not at the races. Should have scored a couple at his best.

Richardson's fault.
No it's not

If he hadn't been brainless enough to do that challenge in the eighteenth minute, I doubt we would have lost this. Often it is Lambert's fault. Today it's Richardson's.

Yup.

It's both. Richardson for the brainless foul, Lambert for 'settling for a draw' after 20 minutes.

4 minutes added!? With all the subs and sending off just 4 minutes
The sending off was in the first half though.

West Brom have been poor for a long while now and couldn't buy a win so of course we go and lose to them.  If a team needs a win or a striker is going through a dry spell you can always put your trust in us to oblige them. So depressingly predictable.
