Who is this young whippersnapper at number 12? Cole? I can safely say that a good performance today will cement his place in the team for at least five years.

Don't worry, Zog will be on after 30 minutes when Cole needs to be subbed.

N'zog was pretty shocking last week so can understand him getting dropped. Would rather have seen Grealish instead of Cole but maybe he'll swap them as Cole runs out of steam. So 15 minutes for Cole and 75 for our Jack

I know its Burnley, but there are several sides not dissimilar to their quality in this league. Having an attitude of wanting the ball and trying to pass and move, trying to win is so critical. We just don't try to do this enough and when we do we look pretty good at it. This all starts with the manager who has become a coward in how he approaches games and then every so often we play well and we all wonder why we couldn't do this more often.

He was always a fairly negative manager, maybe the handbrake has been taken off a wee bit?

I was wondering that. I think it's got more to do with the fact that Burnley are crap, and that Joe Cole is playing in the gap between their defence and midfield and making forward runs.

We have players who can play this way. He manager does not send the side out enough times to take advantage of our ability to pass and move. If we have players who like to play with the ball and then tell them to defend deep and play on the counter we will never see their creative side. Today we are a little more and the frustrating thing is Lambert won't stick to it in the future.

That he has.  Maybe this'll be the role for him - in games against the poorer sides where his quality will stand out more.  Can't see there's much to be gained playing him against the really top sides.

52% possession. Wasn't expecting that.

Cole has been a pleasant surprise but Gabby should buried one of the two good chances he had.

Overall, a lot better.

Ha, I wish Sam! It's a bit of an in joke amongst a few of us on here that when I am out cutting my clematis in the garden, we do well. And I genuinely was too! It's my birthday and Villa never ever win on it, so everything crossed for the second half as it would so make my weekend

I think Cole was brought in for games like this but also for Grealish to learn from him over the next season or 2.

I think in 2 years Grealish will nail that position down

Best 45 minutes since the start of the season. Some great crisp passing through the midfield, Gabby leading the line well and the defence seem to be able to manage things by themselves without 3 defensive midfielders. Great energy from all and overall a very entertaining game.

Only real concern is the ref who seems determined to send somebody off.

Worried at the bleating Burnley players gave the ref coming off at half time. It's his first Prem game, I can see him weakening under pressure in the second half and giving them a soft penalty. We're gonna need another goal or two.

If we don't score until later in the second half and manage to keep them out before then, we could get a 1 - 0. If we score too early, it will be 1 - 1 or we'll lose 2 -1 because of our annoying habit of dropping deep.

I want to see Grealish run at them but please no Zog. He was terrible against Southampton.

With Spurs and Southampton, that is 6 points dropped from winning positions which may well be 7 the way injury time is going. That would have put us way up the league around 8th.
