Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Sanchez, Westwood, Cleverley, Weimann, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor.
-
Given, Bacuna, Cole, Richardson, Bent, Lowton, Grealish.
-
Okore and Grealish are real people and not just figments of our imagination!
-
Okore
Who?
-
Glovewatch
-
well cold cold night. got home late and just about to leave for VP. Best defence against worst attack let's hope for a miracle!
-
The big man is back 8)
Delighted.
-
Don't understand playing Westwood and cleverley
-
Okore finally, that's made me happy! Shame Grealish isn't playing though.
-
Don't understand playing Westwood and cleverley
If we're confused, just imagine what Koeman's thinking "WTF?"
-
Fifa tells me that this will finish 3-2 to Southampton. They'll go ahead courtesy of a Clark howler. We'll go 2-1 up and they'll equalise within a minute, just before half time.
Then through more comical defending grab the winner.
-
Predictable line-up
-
Them:
Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Tadic, Mane, Long, Pelle
I'm guessing the Sanchez/Cleverley/Westwood trio is to flood the midfield a bit. There can't be many central pairs much stronger physically then Wanyama and Schneiderlin, so I'm guessing the extra body to to help with that.
Their front four looks very strong. If it were Shane Long against anybody else then it wouldn't look quite so good, but as it's Shane Long against us...
-
Okore finally, that's made me happy! Shame Grealish isn't playing though.
I'm afraid, very afraid. Okore looked dreadful when he did play in pre-season.
I would love to be wrong.

Did he? I must have been watching different matches then. I thought he was very good.
-
Probably the best line up we could have gone with, given the circumstances. Not sure I can see us being steady enough in defence to get anything from the game though. Here's hoping though, Come on Villa!
-

I thought he looked excellent and I only missed the ones abroad
-
Okore and Clark is worrying me. Clark has mistakes in him, Okore probably can't remember how to play football.
In fact, the whole side is just meh! I really hope CNZ and TC create chances tonight, as Gabby and Weimann aren't doing it.
-
Anyone know where the London Lions meet up to watch games down here in the smoke?

And let's face it, put Lambert in charge of it and they'd be where we are now. I really think our squad is capable of anything from 6th to 10th in what's quite a poor league, put Lambert in charge and its 16th to 20th.
-
With only a little bit of hyperbole, "Almight God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given you the new birth of water and the Spirit and has forgiven you all your sins, strengthen you with His grace to life everlasting. Amen."
-
Snowing and blowing a gale here which stopped me going off to the Pub to watch the Game. Now I have to put up with Robbie Earl and Mustoe.
At least we are bound to win though ;-o
-

He was pretty ropey against Parma iirc. Took a lot of unnecessary risks that he was lucky to get away with at times, and gave possession away quite a bit. In fairness I just put it down to him getting back up to speed after so long out.
-
How the fuck did we lose our best players and end up witha load of shit on long deals and facing ruin, they lost theirs and end up looking better
-

Fair enough, I didn't notice it and I was excited to see him back.
-
We need Okore to be good, because we need a bit of hope. At the minute everything is terrible.
-
What we need, is a hero.
-
What we need, is a hero.
I'm holding out for one.
-
If we want a silver lining, I wouldn't swap much on their bench for ours:
Subs: Bacuna, Cole, Richardson, Bent, Given, Lowton, Grealish.
Subs: Kelvin Davis, Yoshida, Gardos, Cork, Mayuka, Reed, Targett.
-
On paper, Villa will do well to avoid a right twatting. Although, maybe it might at least get Lambert the long overdue shove.
-
Let's hope there is one before the morning light.
-

Personally, I'd rather we won.
-
Come on Villa, 3 points and some attacking intent please. Let's get our season back on track!
-
That Mane is a good player.
-
That Mane is a good player.
Especially when his galloping down the wing.
-
What we need, is a hero.
I'm holding out for one.
:)
-
Get your prayer mats out. Batten down the Hatches and any other phrase that might help!
-
Not looking forward to this one but Villa for once just give us all a decent cheer come 10pm.
-
I wonder if Long has thought about facing Hutton again?
-
Play well and attack for once please Villa.
-
What we need, is a hero.
I'm holding out for one.

....every now and then I fall apart.
Oops wrong song.

I thought he looked excellent and I only missed the ones abroad
From the very limited times he has played, I remain unconvinced, he wasn't what I would call excellent if I'm honest
But we all see things differently, I hope your reading of him is correct and I am wrong with my initial thoughts
-
Great to see the parade of old players but Woodward's intros were cringeworthy
-
First we play the Top 5 from last season, then we play the surprise teams of THIS year (West Ham & Southhampton), then the injuries and bans...someone up there must really dislike Villa this year!
-
I wish he'd stop playing that same predictable formation. Southamptons defence will more than likely have a very easy game. We need some unexpected magic from somewhere. Zogbia is probably the only one capable of giving us that.
-
Come on Villa, get into 'em!
-
Team huddles. Not a fan. Always seems like the sign of a struggling side to me. They should have been doing all this in the changing room.
-
Welcome back you shit camera angle.
-
Villa park looks empty. So, so sad. Of two groups of mates and family I couldn't find one person up for going out of 10-12 possibilities I could usually go with
-
Need more of that from Gabby. He doesn't run at defenders enough these days.
-
How many times do we here on Sky, "And this is "_______" favourite away ground".....
....about 19 times a season!
Modify message
-
Sanchez down injured. What a shock.
-
What the fuck was that from Mane?
-
Mane ;D
-
I really wish we'd press the ball. We allow other teams to play far too easily.
-
Just noticed who the ref is,last thing we needed
-
Does any other team get caught out with short corners as often as we do?
-
Poor crowd may just make it to 20K
-
Villa park's got that cavernous atmosphere tonight.
-
Villa park's got that cavernous atmosphere tonight.
Yeah, you can tell on the box as well.
-
You can see already that the system leaves the FB exposed constantly..we are far to narrow
-
If you consistently provide no entertainment it's no surprise that people stop turning up.
-
Villa park's got that cavernous atmosphere tonight.
Yeah, you can tell on the box as well.
I've just had to turn our telly down, didn't want the racket to disturb the neighbours.
-
If Lerner gave a fuck he'd see the ground tonight and be ashamed.
-
Yep, I get the feeling the ground is slightly less than full.
-
Radio keep harping on about how many empty seats there are. They might be right: the crowd noise is so echoey it sounds like the game is being played in the swimming baths.
-
A big improvement! Lamberts got a new pair of glasses from Specsavers which suit him' at long last. We go again.
-
We seem ok so far.
-
Sorry, can't type for long, got to go back behind the sofa.
#i'mscared
-
Yep, I get the feeling the ground is slightly less than full.
at least Randy doesn't have to sit on the stairs now, he can probably greet each fan personally too

What are you watching?
-
So this is us having a go at them then.
-
I must be watching a different game silli. I think we look scared of the ball, lacking creativity and devoid of confidence.
-
So this is us having a go at them then.
Hang on and Enjoy the ride
-
The 21st minute will probably be as loud as it gets.
-
N'Zogbia having a mare here ,losing the ball every time he gets it
-
Aside from our lack of any football ability we just look weaker than other teams.
-
Press the fucking ball.
-
Counter 'attack' at home to Southampton. I'm not surprised, but I am sick of it.
-
Lovely from Saints then. Bastards.
-
16mins and the saints fans are starting the ole's. For the love of God, when will this end
-
this team, with no intervention, is going down
-
n'zogbia is absolute cack and doesn't look remotely interested/arsed
-
I wouldn't mind so much if counter attacking were our only tactic AND we were good at it, but we're not even good at that anymore.
-
They're getting a grip on the game now. We look so clueless on the ball. Southampton have opened up the pitch and they're spreading the play well. Hopefully Mane's errant final ball and finish will become a pattern of the game.
-
We're just an awful side.
-
This is our good half.
-
Interesting that when Southampton have the ball, the pitch looks very big, they have plenty of room to play in, and time to do it.
When we have the ball, the pitch looks very small, we have no space, and we lose it pretty quickly.
-
Fucking hell, Zog
-
When the Southampton players realise we really are quite shit,
we will be in trouble
-
The quality of their football is on a different planet to ours. And N'Zogbia is fucking shit.
-
There are few players who can be as relied upon to lose the ball as Zog.
-
Zog and Sanchez both having mares so far. Gabby one of the few bright spots so far.
-
Well that was a demo in incompentence with Nzog in the lead role
-
There are few players who can be as relied upon to lose the ball as Zog.
He really had mastered that
-
Is there anyway that Grealish could be worse than N'Zog?
-
21st minute
-
Defend for your lives! Counter-attack. At Home. Against Southampton.
-
Is there something wrong with N'Zogbia's neck? The fucker never lifts his sodding head!
-
Good challenge from Clark, if a little lucky. Going down in the box in a position like that is asking for trouble. He needs to stay on his feet. The Soton player would have to have crossed. Stay on your feet, block the cross. It's especially dangerous with Dowd in charge. He might have given that.
-
Yes, I know they're second in the league.
-
Is there anyway that Grealish could be worse than N'Zog?
Cut one of his feet off?
-
Commentators think its for Petrov
-
Idiot commentator telling the world that applause was for Petrov....
-
Nice tribute which also got mentioned.
-
Well done all there for the 21st minute.
-
Idiot commentator telling the world that applause was for Petrov....
Not on my stream. It was announced correctly.
-
Come on the Villa boys!! This is how we have to play, totally on the counter but we have to stop giving the ball away.
-
Stanislav Petrov? Who the fuck is that? Radio 5 div.
-
I would put money on us being significantly better if we actually approached the game wanting to keep the ball. It's been beaten out of the players by this manager and his coaches. I have come to hate counter attack and I shouldn't because used sparingly and correctly it can be a brilliant tactic.
-
I have always tried to remain positive over the last 4 years, but watching us being given the runaround by Southampton, the empty atmosphere and empty seats, the lack of confidence in the players, seeing so many HandV regulars on here and not at Villa Park and me sat at home with a glass of red with my season ticket in my wallet just shows how far we have fallen and how sad the whole situation has become.
-
How much fucking space do we need to give them to use and show off their technique?
We really are utterly fucking brainless.
-
Gabby the only effective attacker on the pitch for us .
-
Gabby the only effective attacker on the pitch for us .
You don't get to say that too often.
-
6-1 to win at home against southampton. Cheers Randy, thanks for the scarf
-

Amen to that.
-
The stench of doom is everywhere at this club. We are about as moribund as we could possibly be.
-
Stanislav Petrov? Who the fuck is that? Radio 5 div.
;D
Tit.
-
Throw-ins are still magnificent.
-
A quarter of the way to a point! Keep the faith #believe
-
At least Gabby seems interested today and his playing to his strengths.
Zogbia is done. I wanted him to finally come good for us but it just aint gonna happen. Him and Bent need to go in Jan, even if we give the buggers away. Fucking useless. Done for.
-
Wonder what the legends are thinking.
-
Why do we give our fullbacks the ball and let them run with it without giving any support? Pathetic. They're not going to take on 2-3 players in one go FFS.
-
Weimann shouldn't be playing anything like as many games for us as he does. We desperately need more quality in the wide areas.
-

That's part of the problem. Look at those names: Agbonlahor, N'Zogbia, Bent. They're all yesterday's men.
-

Thing is he's the top scorer.

Gabbys yesterdays man. Zogbia and Bent are a whole other level. Yesteryears men.
-
Well at least Southampton dont look any better than our lot.
-
RRAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
-
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL
-
a bit of luck!
-
Oh blimey
-
Yeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssss!
It's yesterday's man!
-
Whenever we're on tv, i find myself just reading the thread rather than actually watching the game. You lot can make me laugh, and much more entertaining.
Nice mistake. Thanks Forster.
-
goal
-
That'll do.
-
Well fuck me!
-
YEEEESSSS! Gabby!!
-
go on gabby
-
Get in!
-
What a ball by Clark ;-)
-
Get in Gabby
-
Love Gabby. Muscular twat. 8)
-
Get in Gabby!
-
is that our goal of the season?
-
Forster in no mans land lol
-
I give Gabby plenty of stick, but he's played well so far tonight. And it's because this is what he can do that I give him the stick.
-
Well fuck me!
There's a game to get through first.
-
Stroke of luck we haven't had for ages.
-
Ha ha! Hilariously bad goalkeeping! Well done Gabby.
-
WOW! A goal!!
-
Blimey
-
'good test now for the saints'
Hahahaha ... these commentators ... epic bantz
-
Well played Gabby, you deserved that, now come on Villa!
-
I'm old skool; listening to the radio.
-
Nowt subtle. Punt, pace, goal. And exactly the sort of goal we just needed. 1.2. bang. No struggling to get it forward, or hoping the fullbacks will create. Route fucking one.
Lovely.
I suspect we'll see 10 men behind the ball now.
-
Not much luck involved in the keeper bottling it.
-
Gabby must have some new bit of skirt watching him tonight or something, he seems to be putting in one of his quarterly shifts.
-
is that our goal of the season?
Well fuck me!
There's a game to get through first.
But I'm wet now.
-
2 goals in 8 games
champions league here we come
-
What does that "1" on the screen next to AV mean?
-
Left peg!! Only way we look like scoring at the moment.
-
Randy's lawyers are now drafting the new 5 year contract extension for Lambert
-
I reckon Southampton will up the intensity now.
-
Charles is a bit shit tonight isn't he...
-
2 goals in 8 games
champions league here we come
1 goal in one game, be positive!
-
Gabby has looked quite good up front. Who'd have thought that playing him there would be a good idea, eh?
-
Routine sit back job now i'm afraid.
-
Enjoy it while it lasts folks
-
I hope the handbrake on the bus works.
-
Gabby has looked quite good up front. Who'd have thought that playing him there would be a good idea, eh?
And playing him facing the opposition as opposed with playing with his back to goal. Get him running at people and this is what happens. I wish Lambert would learn that.
-
I give Gabby plenty of stick, but he's played well so far tonight. And it's because this is what he can do that I give him the stick.
Agree with every word.

Lovely.
I suspect we'll see 10 men behind the ball now.

Anyway lets enjoy the lead and hope it lasts.
-
That's not how you spell movie, you stupid ******.
-
I give Gabby plenty of stick, but he's played well so far tonight. And it's because this is what he can do that I give him the stick.
Agree with every word.
Indeed, spot on.
-
Good head Jores.

ha ha. Well quite.
-
Okore, pure class. Playing passes like Pirlo 8)
-
You can actually hear what that fat yellow bloated twat is saying as it's so quiet
-
Cissokho needs to stop crossing forever
-
I give Gabby plenty of stick, but he's played well so far tonight. And it's because this is what he can do that I give him the stick.
Agree with every word.
Indeed, spot on.
Thirded. He makes Dalian Atkinson look like Mr Dependable.
-
I think the best thing we can do now, having got the lead in the game, is to sit back as deep as possible, let Southampton have almost complete possession of the ball and repeatedly hoof the ball aimlessly up the field on the rare occasions we do manage to get one of our players on it.
I honestly can't see any flaw in that.
[/Lambert]
-
No point playing crosses like that. Keeper fodder...unless we're hoping for another error.
-
Gabby must have some new bit of skirt watching him tonight or something, he seems to be putting in one of his quarterly shifts.
But I'm wet now.
Hmmm
-
Charles is a bit shit tonight isn't he...
Yep
-
Good save Brad.
-
good save goose

Top save Guzan.
-
Top save Brad
-
Save Brad.

Indeed. Though I don't think Lambert does him any favours at all (aside from repeatedly playing him). Gabby's only job should be running at people. That's it. Run, run some more and always face the opposition goal. It should be written in stone.
-
Great save from Guzan.
-
Why is Gabby back defending? Leave him on the half way line and let him break. Lambert can't even spot when something works.
-
Charles is a bit shit tonight isn't he...
Charles is a bit shit isn't he...
[/quote]
Fixed.
-
You could see that last overlap confused Hutton.
He didn't know what to do when he had to split himself in 2 instead of his winger.
-
22% possession!
Uh-oh, Cissokho looks in pain....
-
For fuck's sake Waddle, how hard can it be? G-U-Z-A-N.
-
Charles is a bit shit tonight isn't he...
Yep
Last year I really thought that the returning N'Zogbia could be just the lift the team needed, a bit of flair in an otherwise workmanlike team that could provide a few extra openings for the attack. That little spark to lift the whole team and get the crowd on their feet. I thought if he could just bring some of that individual magic to games, like he did at Wigan, we'd be set for a whole new Villa.
I was wrong. He's really shit.
-
Bollocks, not another injury?
-
Can someone tell me why that fat fuck Dowd (and his merry men) thought it was a good idea to wear the same colours as Southampton?
-
22% possession!
Uh-oh, Cissokho looks in pain....
Hoping he is just killing time. Y'know, like pragmatic players in winning teams do.
-
Can someone tell me why that fat fuck Dowd (and his merry men) thought it was a good idea to wear the same colours as Southampton?
And what's with the weird marking on the shirt? It looks like a massive pocket. The markings on the shirt, I mean, although I suppose that description fits Dowd as well.
-
Ropey start but we're giving them a game now. In our own rudimentary, agricultural way.
-
corner villa
-
Sanchez scores 3 points.
-
Can someone tell me why that fat fuck Dowd (and his merry men) thought it was a good idea to wear the same colours as Southampton?
Just to make it a bit more obvious that we're playing against 12.
-
Fair to say that Sanchez isn't the new Hitz!
-
tonev
-
Sanchez scores 3 points.
;D
The worst shot of all time.
-
Among many frustrations with this Villa side is that if we ever take the lead we then just sit back and don't try to push for the second goal.
-
It's very strange hearing the players shouting to each other.
-
Zog's a bit of a liability.
-
Ropey start but we're giving them a game now. In our own rudimentary, agricultural way.
Now I understand Lambert's Lucite approach to games.
-
Sanchez scores 3 points.
;D
The worst shot of all time.
That award must still rest with Geoff Thomas.
-
We're Aston Villa, we're winning a game.
-
Zog may as well not be on the pitch.
I imagine he's going to stay on it, though, infuriatingly.
-
half time ;)
-
WTF? Have half Holte End caught the flu or something??
-
N'Zog has to come off. We're winning, it'd be nice if we actually tried for a second. Okore has done decently as well.
-
Cheers Fraser.
Equal parts same old shit, and slight improvement over recent months. We've had a few freekicks in good areas. Gabby's been lively.
Get Grealish on for Zogbia and we might have a bit more joy.
-
I'd definitely be taking off Zog, either get Grealish on or Bacuna. I reckon he'll start the second half though.
-
Mustn't grumble!
But... Why would any team in the top four divisions actually PAY N'Zogbia to play football?
-
get another central midfielder on
-
Unexpectedly one up. I'm not sure we really deserve to be, but glad we are. The football is shit.
-
The atmospheres like one of them under 21 matches
Then again I'm not there so can't critize those that are
-
N'Zog has to come off. We're winning, it'd be nice if we actually tried for a second. Okore has done decently as well.
He has, and if he continues to have a good game, it'll be interesting to see if he keeps his place when others come back from injury.
-
Zog off and Grealish on, FFS.
I don't think I can stand much more of his "head down, four paces, lose ball" routine.
-
Zog's a bit of a liability.
OK other than giving unnecessary free kicks, losing possession every time he has ball when we attach, misplaced passes and incapable of tackling what has he done wrong?
-
If it worked on Have I Got News....
Would offer considerably more than "Right Old" Charlie N'Z.
-
Zog's a bit of a liability.
OK other than giving unnecessary free kicks, losing possession every time he has ball when we attach, misplaced passes and incapable of tackling what has he done wrong?
Clearly playing for a new contract.
-
Zog may as well not be on the pitch.
I imagine he's going to stay on it, though, infuriatingly.
That's as poor a half as I can remember seeing from a Villa player, absolutely abysmal performance.
-
What I like about Zog is that he always attempts to run at defenders and attack. What I don't like about Zog is he's a bit crap at running at defenders and attacking.
-
I'm sure I'll regret writing this, but I have to say that, just as he did in his brief showings last year, Okore does look pretty comfortable for us at the back - he seems a pretty chilled out player, if you see what I mean, never seemingly in a fluster or a panic, good positioning.
-
Zog off and Grealish on, FFS.
I don't think I can stand much more of his "head down, four paces, lose ball" routine.
Same here.
-
Zog off and Grealish on, FFS.
I don't think I can stand much more of his "head down, four paces, lose ball" routine.
I think that must be written in his contract:
1.1.23 - Must look confused and run forwards until lose ball or run out of play.
-
I'm going to go and get another beer, and do it in the Zog style.
*gets up*
*walks towards door, head down*

I'm sure I'll regret writing this, but I have to say that, just as he did in his brief showings last year, Okore does look pretty comfortable for us at the back - he seems a pretty chilled out player, if you see what I mean, never seemingly in a fluster or a panic, good positioning.
He's probably just relieved that the aliens finished their tests and released him.
-
The problem is that even though we're winning there's no actual obvious up turn in performance or apparent plan to be better. So even if we say held on to this there is nothing to suggest we could go on a sustained run. I guess that's largely been the issue in Lambert's reign.
-
Zog off and Grealish on, FFS.
I don't think I can stand much more of his "head down, four paces, lose ball" routine.
agree we need a lift ( even thou were winning ) but you know what I mean
-
I think we've been pretty crap especially early on. We were hugely. After against Spurs. But the result is all important today.
N'zogbia has been awful but I've backed his inclusion in the past on the basis he's our one player who can inject some genuine final third creativity
I'd be inclined to put Lowton on for his crossing ability at some stage - right midfield
-
What is the point of N'Zogbia?
-
I don't think I can stand much more of his "head down, four paces, lose ball" routine.
Well, at least he'll never step in dog shit I suppose.
-
OptaJoe: 3 - This is only the third time Southampton have trailed at half-time in the PL this season. They lost the previous two games. Pointer.
May as well call it 1-0 now then.
-
I'm going to go and get another beer, and do it in the Zog style.

Very good.
-
Just got in. How's Okore doing?
-
Just got in. How's Okore doing?
Well; he's looked calm and collected.
-
Just got in. How's Okore doing?
Solid enough imo. Not done anything wrong and distribution has been good. Decent performance from him.
-
Is Keane there? Haven't noticed him on the telly.
-
He's showing why he should have been picked to play in previous matches.
-
Not sure how we're winning but we really need to make the most of this. We don't get into this position very often.
-
He's showing why he should have been picked to play in previous matches.
Indeed.
-
Forgot completely about the first half, thankfully. Just seen the highlights, and it appears our goal was generously donated by Wimbledon FC, circa 1988. Still, who cares, we're winning.
-
And Villa Park sounds all echoey, like Erdington baths on a quiet Sunday morning.
-
Chuffed to hear about Okore, cheers lads.
-
I've not really noticed Okore much today, which as a defender means he's having a good game.
-
Good start.
-
unlucky!
-
damn thought that was going to be two
-
I think we've been pretty crap especially early on. We were hugely. After against Spurs. But the result is all important today.
Is that a Haiku? ;-)

Not very good at this...

47 minutes in and no injuries.

5-7-5
-
Great cross from Hutton.
-
longs having a mare
-
We are in the lead
We all hope this carries on
Watch us f*ck it up
-

You missed out:
*gives beer to stranger*
-
Press the ball please Villa.
-
Mane may be a love child of Didier Drogba and Tom Daley. Carlos and Jores keep falling for it and conceding free kicks near our box.
-
47 minutes in and no injuries.
Will you stop that until the game's over thanks.
One of them is bound to trip over a blade of grass and break both legs now.
-
Southampton make their own kit. Everything about that club impresses me
-
Okore has impressed me.
Athletic and decent on the ball. Hit probably our best pass of the evening, too.
-
I dont think Keane is there. Has anybody spotted him?
-
I dont think Keane is there. Has anybody spotted him?
probably giving Grealish's dad a beating behind the north stand
-
knowing Villa's luck, he's probably injured
-
If Pelle goes down after a clash of heads at some point, expect their physio to come running on with a can of hairspray.
-
Next goal wins I reckon.
-
Time appears to have come to a standstill
-
Our front two are working hard but we are really struggling with a lack of guile and quality in midfield. I guess that is what Cleverley and Nzogbia are supposed to provide but both are complete passengers.
Hutton has been good second half
-
Inviting pressure.
-
Zog off for Richardson.
-
Huttons playing well again.
-
Is it me or are we playing more 4-5-1?
-
Zog off for Richardson.
Thank Gawd for that
-
good sub
-
Nerves are shot, this is bloody awful. Its only bloody November!
-
Okore has impressed me.
Athletic and decent on the ball. Hit probably our best pass of the evening, too.
He's also, when needed, stuck to the principle of "nobody's ever scored from row Z". Which makes a refreshing change after various errors due to faffing.
-
Richardson for Zog welcome sub!
-
the possession stats continue to be utterly embarrassing. After 3 years of "evolution" under Lambert to not progress our style of play is shocking. We will never be anything other than perennial strugglers with a third of the play every match.....
-
Zog down the tunnel, so injured. But for a moment I thought Lambo had made a smart substitution tactically.
-
I reckon it'll come on 79 minutes.
-
Our ball retention is still utter shite.
-
the possession stats continue to be utterly embarrassing. After 3 years of "evolution" under Lambert to not progress our style of play is shocking. We will never be anything other than perennial strugglers with a third of the play every match.....
That's what worries me.
I hope we hold on to the lead, I really do, but I just look at this playing style and wonder how often it is going to work for us.
-
You can actually hear what that fat yellow bloated twat is saying as it's so quiet
[This text message was brought to you via Malky Mackay]
Lolgasm
-
Is it me or are we playing more 4-5-1?
Cleverley seems to be further forward than the other two in midfield. Lost in the hole it seems. Thats the role he was bought for so particularly disappointing
-
Am I hallucinating, or did we string three (3) passes together just then? Way to go!
-
Big Jores with the tackle there.
-
One goal is not enough Im afraid.
-
This is what I can't stomach. It's no joy watching us play like this, even when we win it's a period of torture followed by relief
-
Excellent from Okore, again. Very promising.
Cleverley is playing well tonight too, in my opinion.
-

Precisely there's nothing to suggest we're going to improve.
-
Rag Dolly Sanchez looks ready to fall apart again.
-
both teams losing possession
-
Needs a change in Midfield.
-
Rag Dolly Sanchez looks ready to fall apart again.
Yep.
-
Get Grealish on.
-
southampton well below par thank mcgrath
-
Sanchez makes me think: what if ... Nigel Benn played football?
He goes into weird kind of whirlwind frenzies sometimes and leaves his good sense behind.
-
Is there a more consistently desperate looking side than us in the league?
-
Sanchez has done OK, but I am shit scared we are yet to see his one-a-match clanger yet.
-
Now even the Danish commentators are taking the piss out of our passing and ball possesion.
"The stats have been like that (30%), all season. Even Crystal Palace would be embarrassed."
"Even West Brom did more with 10 men at Stamford Bridge."
I'd liked to say cheeky ******, but......
-
I wonder if Bent will get a touch?
-
All is saved, Bent is on.
-
benty
-
Bent coming on
-
WTF? Bent for Sanchez?
-
weighty bitch
-
Bent?
-
Sanchez makes me think: what if ... Nigel Benn played football?
He goes into weird kind of whirlwind frenzies sometimes and leaves his good sense behind.
The trouble with Sanchez, or Jackson 5 as my mate calls him, is that if he spends longer than two seconds on the ball, he loses it. Without fail. Other than that he normally looks fine.
-
Fucking hell, here comes The Fat Prince of Bel Air.
-
Bent for Sanchez ??? Wtf !!
-
Ola, my name is Carlos. I win ze ball, then I pass eet straight to an opponent. So much that the coach thinks Dazza is a good replacement. Que?!!
-
Well I didn't see that coming. Bent for Sanchez!
-
Strange change that
-
Eh? Bent replacing Sanchez!?
-
Not really sure how this works, midfield physical presence off, fat, motionless "striker" on?
-
Evening, gents.
This is fun isn't it? A real humdinger. Bent on for Sanchez. I saw that coming. Honest.
-
Is there a more consistently desperate looking side than us in the league?
I don't think so! every minute of every game we play, we give the impression of a plucky non-league side grimly, desperately hanging on against Premier League opposition in an FA Cp third round game.
-
Fucking stupid freekick. They'll prob score from it.
-
Benty on. Common Darren prove the doubters wrong.
-
A very puzzling sub there.
-
Is there a more consistently desperate looking side than us in the league?
No, we are shit. Even when we win we are still shit. It's depressing, we hope it gets better. It doesn't.
-
Defensive midfielder off. Striker on...
I...words cannot...I...wibble.
Thats a surprisingly bold move from Lambert. Bold and slightly barmy. Unsure whether I like that or not.
-
Sanchez off for…..Bent?
That's…..well, it's ballsy, I suppose.
-
Whenever Bent comes on I think of that Stoke kit man who got a game.
-
That's quite strange, not a Lambert type substitution?
-
We're asking for it.
-
Whenever Bent comes on I think of that Stoke kit man who got a game.
Very good.
-
We are so laughably shit and lucky.
-
It's getting a bit desperate now.
-
Shape totally gone now
-
they are getting more on top
-
Confucius say concede 8,000 set pieces on the edge of your area and a team of average monkeys will score goals. As Spurs proved.
-
Wiemann. FFS
-
Bloody hell Weimann
-
Fucking hell Andi!
-
fuck me, well played tho andi
-
Fuck me
-
Should've been two. Fuck me Andi terrible finish.
-
That was no Dennis Mortimer against Liverpool.
-
Sanchez off for…..Bent?
That's…..well, it's ballsy, I suppose.
Perfect sense. We create so many chances we can afford a luxury goal hanger......hmmmm.
-
No, no, no. Why did you do that? It was going to be a beautiful counter-attacking goal.
-
Oh Andi.
-
he is not a prem player
-
Good grief that's a bad miss.
-
Oh Andi. He's normally better at taking shots like that. Should have won us the game there.
-
It's not Bent coming on that bothers me. It's the player he has replaced.
-
That was a great break though. Apart from the finish.
-
Dear God that was terrible Weimann
-
Bacuna is getting ready.
-
Tonev returns?
-
Saints go to a 4-2-4.
-
Have we scored at the holte end this season?
-
That was no Dennis Mortimer against Liverpool.
Dennis couldn't shoot either.
-
Have we scored at the holte end this season?
Nope.
-
Well that was coming.
-
Fuck.
Fuck.
-
Anyone surprised? 1-1
-
It's the false hope that kills you.
-
Ask, and thee shall receive.
-
fuck nuts
-
There it is.
-
fucking typical
-
there you go
-
I'm in shock. This cannot be.
-
Miss a golden chance. Up the other end. Bang.
Sucker punch.
-
Haha 1-1 we are shit
-
Typical Villa to be honest. Miss a glorious chance, concede a goal.
GET GREALISH ON.
-
Ace.
Message to Weimann. That is why you can't miss fucking sitters.
I really have had enough of this shit.
-
Winner on 89, I reckon.
-
That was coming for the last 20 minutes.
-
if you miss sitters like that it comes to bite your fucking ass
-
great finish
-
cant say that wasn't coming
What a fucking miss by weimann
-
What minute will they get the winner?
-
And here comes the inevitable.
Arse biscuits. That was shit defending from one side of the pitch to the other
-
Expect to lose now
-
I reckon it'll come on 79 minutes.
Close.
-
Weiman. Why do we persist. Clearly not good enough for this level. Why not try Grelish for a few matches. So boringly predictable. I hate what Lambert has done to this club.
-
..and that chance was harder than weimanns
-
and there you go, can't say I'm overly surprised.
-
Expect to lose now
I always did.
-
Gabby let his player go again
-
What minute will they get the winner?
90+2
-
Clyne showing Weimann how to finish there. Nice side foot finish. Good work from our old man Bertrand with the assist. Didnt see much of that in a Villa shirt from him
-
Another classic Westwood freekick. Bobbins. Way out of his depth.
-
What minute will they get the winner?
89th
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
-
Go on lads you can get a point. Keep up the good work.
-
It's sad but it's true that you can't play our method and play it to such a mediocre standard and expect to get much out of games. Such a lack of ambition. And quality.
-
Why didn't we have a defensive midfielder tracking back to that central area? Oh that's right, Lambert FUCKING TOOK HIM OFF.
And replaced him with Mr fucking Stay Puft from Ghostbusters.
-
Why the fuck do we ask a striker who has run himself into the ground play in a important role as a wide midfielder when we're trying to hang onto a win?
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
Like he did against spurs.
-
It's a shame because we've actually had one or two good performances tonight.
-
Are we making Weimann the scapegoat then? I'd rather point to the fact that taking the lead and then letting them have the ball is repeatedly proven to not work, yet we're trying it yet a-fucking-gain.
-
Gabby let his player go again
Do you ever post anything else? Ask yourself how the ball was allowed to travel right across from one side to the other.
And they say Gabby is thick.FFS. Grow up!
-
Wonder how much touches our two subs have got since they came on?
-
Bent?
-
You just know that only one team, if any, will score now. We've got no fucking idea.
-
get ready for the I thought we were excellent
-
Maybe Lambert should take another midfielder off and put a forward on
That always works
-
Clyne showing Weimann how to finish there. Nice side foot finish. Good work from our old man Bertrand with the assist. Didnt see much of that in a Villa shirt from him
He was managed by Lambert. I feel like I've solved the Da Vinci code
-
It's just all so predictable and there will be absolutely no urgency from us whatsoever. Look at their body language No fight whatsoever.
-
We're just so fucking unprepared and feeble all the time, it just never really changes.
If we'd had held on till the end, it wouldn't really have made much difference in the bigger picture because we are still playing exactly the same, agricultural mess of a "style" of football all the time.
-
bent winner
-
Are we making Weimann the scapegoat then? I'd rather point to the fact that taking the lead and then letting them have the ball is repeatedly proven to not work, yet we're trying it yet a-fucking-gain.
Yep Weimann's was a bad miss, but it's the insistence to give the opposition the ball that leads to this every time.
-
Bent for Sanchez has worked well
-
cissoko is dim
-
I wonder if Westley is crying tears of joy at how well we've played.
-
Why didn't we have a defensive midfielder tracking back to that central area? Oh that's right, Lambert FUCKING TOOK HIM OFF.
And replaced him with Mr fucking Stay Puft from Ghostbusters.
To be fair Sanchez coming off was a decent call.
It was the replacement that was a mindfuck.
-
bent winner
Brown envelope job then?
-
Anyone else burst out laughing at Bent's 'run' then?
-
Anyone else burst out laughing at Bent's 'run' then?
He was a bit slow
-
Watching Bent starting to run is the mountain going to Mohammed brought to life.
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
Yes he did. One goal was never going to be enough against anyone.
-
And a draw is no good to anyone. Win and we at least have three points.
A loss and at least Pl is nearer the exit door
-
We're defending a one-nil lead, sitting fairly deep and looking to counter. So we need legs, to get up and down the pitch.
So he brings on Bent, the most overweight footballer since Ronaldo ate the 1970 World Cup-winning squad.
Words fail me.
-
Looks like us going for the winner
-

It was a staggeringly poor substitution, what a fucking idiot.
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
Yes he did. One goal was never going to be enough against anyone.
Gabby's was the most obvious mistake, but it was shit from the moment they first attacked Hutton.
-
hows does okore not get in the team
-
Bent ambling about, looking like he couldn't GAF
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
Yes he did. One goal was never going to be enough against anyone.
Yes but asking him to play that role at that point in the match is daft. Bloody asking for errors.
-
Anyone else burst out laughing at Bent's 'run' then?
He was a bit slow
He's an ex-footballer now.
-
A loss and at least Pl is nearer the exit door
I NEVER want us to lose, for any reason. that's just daft.
-

It's actually mind-blowing. What the fuck was he thinking?!
-
Clark and okore have done well tonight
-
Hutton, Clarke, Okore, Guzan and Cleverley all deserve credit tonight.
-
I've seen hippos move quicker than Darren Bent. Dead ones.
-
Gabby lost his man for the goal. His fault
Yes he did. One goal was never going to be enough against anyone.
Gabby's was the most obvious mistake, but it was shit from the moment they first attacked Hutton.
I think Gabby was expecting there to be some cover in the middle of the pitch. Which, to be fair to him, there had been until Lambert took off Sanchez because, presumably, he wasn't really doing anything, what with all that tackling and stuff.
-
bonus a goal a point
hutton , okore, clark were good and good goal by gabby
pretty lasklustre thou
-
Swapping shirts with fucking Southampton?
-
I am sticking up for Sanchez.....he has come from a league where you have time on the ball into a league that is hustle an bustle playing for a team with no movement, belief or form (he also had a good World Cup having time on the ball).
I hope given time he will be a good payer for us but I worry that we may not have that luxury.
-
Unbeaten in two then
-
Ar cor find the post match thread!
-
100 games with Lambert. Like watching the prototype under his leadership. No possesion, boring, failing support and scrambling for a point...at Villa Park!
-
Why he brought on Bent and took off Sanchez I'll never know. A decent point on paper but disappointed having come pretty close to getting all three.
-
Take a point but we are truly woeful to watch / endure .
-
Hutton, Clarke, Okore, Guzan and Cleverley all deserve credit tonight.
Clark did well as well as the ones you have mentioned.
-
Awful through the majority again. But we take any point no matter how it comes.
We've got too many players who are passed it or not good enough. We need 2-3 good additions in January or we could go down.
Guzan MOTM for me. Clark and that new fella who's name escapes me played well in the centre of defence. Hutton was good again. Cissokho looks like an accident waiting to happen still. Sanchez was a mixture of okay and shite again. TC did okay. Westwood is mediocre. Weimann works hard but ultimately isn't good enough. Zogbia was wretched. Gabby had a good first half, forgettable second.
They weren't too great. Quite lacklustre today. Point was fair.
-
Aston Villa. Stinking the Premier League out since 2011.
-
Hutton, Clarke, Okore, Guzan and Cleverley all deserve credit tonight.
Clark did well as well as the ones you have mentioned.
Sorry. I added an E to Clarke. Won't happen again.
Except for auto correct. Clark. Yes.
