A nice MOTD reminder of when Villa regularly and expectedly won at home, even despite that great side being on the wane. This also clearly shows that Villa Park certainly was Gary Linekers bogey ground.

Nice find. We rode our luck in that match with Lineker missing an open net and Spink making a few great saves. Withe still had the striking instincts to cause sides trouble and played well in this game by the looks of it. 19,000 for a side that were champions of Europe months previously is a bit poor though.

I would have been there but I have no recollection at all of that game. The only home game against Leicester in the eighties that stands out for me was the one with the Steve Hunt/Simon Stainrod free kick routine.

Yeah I went to that game. Can remember some of the goal...hazy but the way I remember it was that Steve Hunt was on the deck with his back towards their defence. He then flicked the ball into the air for Stainrod to then score with an overhead kick that resembled the goal scored in Escape To Vicctory. Well we may have got the victory that day but there was no escape that season.

November 19th and the 14th goal of the season. For Peter Withe. For youngsters reading this that is 14 GOALS - BY NOVEMBER - BY ONE PLAYER. Football was just crazy in those days kids.
