wow... :o :o
-
Is there an FA Cup runners' up medal in there somewhere
-
Is it just me that finds a company that deals in bankruptcy sales having the tagline "Vested in Your Success" a little bit off?
-
Very sad, you can only imagine the heartbreak of having to Auction off your prized possession's.
-
The customised Astra Van looks interesting
-
I don't recall him being known as a big drinker or gambler, so he must have made some very poor financial moves to be in this position. Wasn't he into art?
Although sad I find it hard to feel sorry as he must have been earning £25k+ a week in his time.
-
More than the money he must have gone through, he always seemed intelligent so God knows where it all went.
-
"Built up debts after a costly divorce from wife Tanya"

Sympathy up to a point but obviously at some point gambled too much of his fortune - which is nuts.
Sure he is capable of amassing another wedgw through the media or management.

Indeed. You'd think that with £20m earnings he'd have managed to have something put away but to lose it all must be devastating. Dave mentions him being intelligent but Robbie Fowler, not somebody you'd imagine to be the smartest of the team is the one raking it in with a buy to let portfolio of over 80 houses. He's even set up his own 'academy' to teach footballers how to invest.
-
"But His personal life went into meltdown when he left his wife Tanya in 2005 and was forced to pay her £3m as part of their divorce settlement.
He left her to rekindle a relationship with his childhood sweetheart Amanda Salmon and they have been together ever since."

I'm really sorry, but when someone earns in the space of a relatively few years more money than most us accrue in several lifetimes, I have little sympathy. Especially when - as has already been remarked - he is an intelligent, articulate person, who will now no doubt earn far more than most pursuing a media career.
-
Which lot number are the gloves he used to drop the ball into the net in the FA Cup Final 2000, the only one reached by Villa in most of our lifetimes?
And if I outbid everyone else in the auction for those, then burn them ritually, will Villa win the FA Cup, even if Phil Dowd is the referee and Paul Lambert is the manager?
-
I just find it incredibly sad.
-
The jungle beckons
He'll live. It's not like he will be short of work even if not on mainstream UK TV.

I'll wonder if that collection has a dozen U2 and Simple Minds LPs like somebody else I could mention?! ;)
-
Could be worth a Bid ;)
-
I assume he's getting a few quid playing in the Indian Super League so I expect he'll be ok. It's unlikely he wouldn't be able to get a job in the media or (goalkeeping) coaching should he want to.
-
It is incredible how often the top players go broke. Not just the Lee Hendries of this world. There is a stat that 60% of NFL players go bankrupt after 5 years of retirement, just madness.
On the flip side Thomas Gravesen made £100m from investing when he retired.
-
I'm not over convinced that celebrity bankruptcy isn't nothing more than snide accountancy.
12 years ago I had a business that failed and I was nowhere near bankruptcy but in order to satisfy my creditors I sold my house and possessions and had the square root of Fxxx all left. I got emergency rehoused in Tipton in a rough old flat with no heating having just had our first baby. Had I transfered my house into my girlfriends name, declared bankruptcy, things would have been a little easier to say the least.
I dare say we will shortly see our former goalie sunning himself somewhere expensive. I bet he has a place in Dubai, which I can't imagine being part of his UK bankruptcy.

I'm beginning to wonder if we'd win the FA Cup even if no other team entered it.
-
I'm sure I read a stat that said +50% of Premier League players are divorced within 3 years of retiring .

Met him a few times, a nice bloke.
Met his ex-wife as well, not a typical footballers moll , a bit frightening tbh, but he did leave her, and he had a biggish house in Bromsgrove, and 4 or 5 kids when he left her, so you pay your money, you make your choice.
Good luck to him, but i bet he is still a lot better off than most of us will ever be.
-
Having looked at the items on offer it is as if he has just emptied one of his garages.
Might bid for the Gustavo Bartelt signed shirt.
-
Does seem a bit of a macabre PR stunt.
-
Bagsy the "I Love NY" mug!
-
Before sympathy for James, just spare a thought for all the people that will lose money because of this.
There are bound to be lots of individuals and small businesses affected.
