I remember going to the first game at Ewood. Olney and Ormondroyd for us.  Frank  Stapleton scored for them, I think.

I went to both matches- shows how times have changed where most clubs would get a bigger attendance for the FA Cup than league games.

David May hammers one past his own keeper and Motty says there was "a slight touch on it".

The days when 31K was a big crowd for us.

I was at both games. It was a great few months to support Villa. Blackburn brought a big support. Our current goalkeeping coach was in goal for Blackburn that night. Trelford Mills is a classic old refereeing name. We got over 36,000 against Port Vale in the next round.

I was at the both games as well, the first finished 2-2. I've still got the programme somewhere.

Watching that extended clip really brings in to focus how utter dire current commentary is.

Instead of Motson telling you who's got the ball, who's played a pass, who's moving into space etc. -actually commentating on the game
-we now have two twerps who so love the sound of their own voice, that they never shut up. Instead of informing us about the game we're
watching, however, they drone on about banal and irrelevant 'facts' about players and teams all while the match is taking place.
Why do we need a co-commentator anyway? They just get in the bloody way.

Can you imagine what the commentary would have been like with a co-co' for the '66 World Cup Final or for the '82 European Cup Final?
We'd never have a quote like Brian Moore's to drape across the North Stand.

There was a co commentator for the European Cup Final of 82. The wonderful Cloughie.

All together now.

"We've done em!!!!"

Agree with the rest of your post though.

Got this on a video somewhere taped from sportsnight. Also on that show was a 9 dart finish in the World Darts and a Kirkland Lang fight. Whatever happened to him ?

And me. Don't know about Kirkland Laing, but it was Paul Lim doing a nine-darter......against an Irish chap?

Reminds me of a BFR quote. He reckoned Stapleton was the most miserable player he ever dealt with. I think the quote was "He looks in the mirror first thing in the morning and smiles just to get it out of the the way for the rest of the day".

Now there's a name from the past. Iirc Kirkland Laing somehow beat Roberto Duran. However he outboxed but lost to non nonsense Colin Jones, who could fell a tree.

He was exciting to watch, Kirkland Laing, but would too often get caught because of keeping his hands low too often.
