Will go 1-1.  Gabby to get ours.  City are really hit and miss right now and we tend to raise our game when we face them at Villa Park.   A decent size crowd should help also.  A point would be a good way to stop the slide and set up an interesting fixture at Goodison next time out.

What's the latest on Ron? Draw if he plays, lose by a couple if he doesn't. That said, an appearance by The Beast as well could, maybe, perhaps, just nudge me off and over onto the optimistic side of the fence.

Quote
Christian Benteke looks set to be in the squad for the game against Man City this weekend.

Paul Lambert revealed that barring any last-minute hitches his intention is to include Benteke in the matchday group on Saturday.

It's a big boost for the forward, who played 60 minutes for the U21s on Monday against Bolton.

Lambert has been pleased with his progress and now hopes to see him available in the clash with the champions.

He said: "If everything goes okay tomorrow and he feels okay, then I will put Christian in the squad.

"He's come through the last few weeks unscathed.

"He played for an hour on Monday in the U21s.

"We will see how he is tomorrow but my intention is that he'll be in the squad.

"First and foremost, his leg is better - his achilles is okay. He has no ill effects on it whatsoever.

"He came through the U21s pretty good and trained for the rest of the week."

Ron Vlaar looks set to miss out on Saturday while Libor Kozak has had a setback in his return.

Vlaar has been absent against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea after injuring his calf against Hull.

Lambert is hopeful of seeing the skipper soon after the international break.

Kozak was making good progress from his broken leg but his return has been put back.

He added: "Ron is doing really well. This one is probably too early. Hopefully we will see him after the break.

"Libor had another operation on Wednesday. He's had a setback on his leg but hopefully that will start to heal."

Weather conditions may come into the equation. Saturdays forecast is for heavy rain at times. Their pampered 'stars' eg Ya Ya and Silva might find this a trifle depressing wheareas  Cleverley, Delph, Westwood and Richardson should thrive.Cleverley in particular. I wouldnt play Benteke unless it becomes imperative as there is more of a chance of injuries on a wet pitch.

James Milner will no doubt be an important player for them.......if picked.

Stupid kick off time. Too early to eat before kick off, and get home too late to cook. This inconvenience could be tempered by a draw if the big man comes on, but fear another defeat in this awful run of fixtures.

Tough one to call. Of all the skywankfestmoneyonlythingthatmatters. Teams they are the ones who always look like they can be beaten but conversely catch them on a good day and they can wipe the floor with you.

Would take a score draw now if offered

They've always been a bogey side of ours since football began, even when they were shite. I dunno. I don't fancy it. Law of averages states that having beaten them last season, they'll absolutely pummel us this time around. I'd like to see us being more adventurous in attack though. I'll say 2-4. A last minute consolation from Benteke. Gabby to put us up and give us hope. Minus Vlaar I can't see us keeping their attack at bay though. Particularly not with Aguero's movement (if he plays).

I'm normally pretty optimistic about our chances- can't see us getting anything other than a hiding against city though, unfortunately.

On the plus side, whoever posted that goal of tony daley's in the snow - good on ya!

When it flies off his boot, I keep expecting it to go in the the top right corner, but it goes almost dead straight in the top left. Cheers Tone, what a strike. Good times supporting villa back then.

Edit: deano's mullet- cheers for posting  :)

I will be glad when we can get back to playing mid-table pap like Stoke, Hull or Liverpool after this three game run.

I haven't been very impressed with Man City so far and think they look vulnerable still at the back. Still, if they turn up, it will be a very difficult game.

As someone else said further up the thread, of all the big money top six clubs, Man City are the ones who look unpredictable.

I think on their day, they're much better than the others, but they are way more prone to having "not their day" days than the rest.

This fixture last year was a typical example. The first half was genuinely one of the most one-sided games of football I've ever seen. I'd never have believed what happened in the second half would have done so if we'd played that fixture a hundred times.

We live in hope.

I have always though that no matter how bad you're playing, when there is only one goal in it, you're still in with a chance.

Last year against Man City is one example, but perhaps the ebst was at Anfield under O'Neill in a mid-week game where we drew 2-2. Harewood came on and we changed the game after being utter tosh for the majority of it.
