I'd have been tempted to give Sanchez a game in front of the weakened back four. Perhaps he'll come on after we've taken the lead ...

Not at all confident now without Vlaar and Baker in. I think he'll struggle against their pace and movement. We really need Okore match fit ASAP. Still, at leaf we have a few more options this season. Let's hope we give a decent account of ourselves.

With that Liverpool team I'd have had a reasonable degree of confidence with vlaar in.

But baker against the movement of their front four . . .

A lot of new players for Liverpool, including Lallana & Balotelli. Hope that helps us.

Lot of tricky forward players they have, think we'll need to score a couple today to take a point.

I would imagine Baker is in to physically batter Balotelli.

It might work, but probably will not.

Pity that Okore wasn't ready yet.

More that he played twice while on international duty so probably a bit much to start. That said nice to have him as an option when Bamby starts slipping and falling all over the place.

I have put a tenner on Balotelli to get a straight red in the first half for trying to light one of the ref's farts.
Title: Re: Liverpool vs Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: supertom on September 13, 2014, 05:20:49 PM
Baker's a worry but hopefully he'll have a good game. He's certainly got to perform when he gets the chance or he'll be gone next summer probably. I still don't get why Lambo seems to rate him over Clark.
I think we've got enough quality in our CM to cause Gerrard and Henderson problems and hopefully we can stifle the service to the attacking players.
Frustrating crazy Mario might be a good idea too. Nath can take a few sly lumps out of him. If we wind the gremlin up we might just get him to do something silly.

Yes. But hopefully he will headbutt somebody and get sent off first. Gotta love canny Keane tactics.

Good first half. Very well drilled. We've fully deserved our lead, and Big Phil probably should have had a couple more too. We've restricted them to a couple of speculative long range efforts and frustrated them.
Hopefully we keep it up.

Kudos to Baker as well. He's been excellent today.
Solid debut thus far from Cleverley.
Gabby has been on good form today. He's a real pest for the opposition when he plays like this.

This is the single biggest difference compared to the last couple of seasons ... and it should develop a more positive approach to holding and using the ball if we can continue to keep clean sheets / minimise golas-conceded.
Over time, this will enable Benteke and Grealish to flourish.

It's been, like, two minute I know, but Sanchez doesn't half close down space quickly.

I'm going to be controversial here.

Even if we do win this 1-0, it won't have been worth it. Is it any wonder we're not selling season tickets when we play like this. It's the ultimate in anti-football.
Your joking aren't you? We're 1 up at a team which nearly won the league last season. They are a better team than us in all departments.
If we win 1-0 I'm going to enjoy every bit of it.
Hear bloody hear.  If were playing like this against Sunderland at home I may express concern.

Agreed. Will only be sorry I live too far away to do that among those sour faced Scousers in the crowd shots at Whingers Arms.

Gabby looks injured. Sanchez and Bent for TC and Gabs would be good.

I thank you. *Bows, then collects car keys for job interview at Bodymoor Heath.*

With that Liverpool team I'd have had a reasonable degree of confidence with vlaar in.

But baker against the movement of their front four . . .

Hope you'll give Baker his due today, was a great stand in for Vlaar.
