An aside from the doom and gloom, the best day of the World Cup for me is always (sadly) the day the fixtures are released for the forthcoming season.
I'd like to see us away at Norwich or Sunderland to get a coastal stay in as well.
Smethwick at home on Boxing Day would be nice to see too.
-
Norwich is probably not a goer as they were relagated?
-
We want to avoid promoted teams while they are still confident.
-
Norwich is probably not a goer as they were relagated?
😣😣😣 Ooooops, I was thinking Newcastle, it's my age 😁
-
West Brom at Home. The mess they're currently in, it may be a good time to play them. Darren Bent hattrick.
-
To be honest, i'm enjoying the break from it all without caring who've got first game. Miserable bugger aye I?
-
Don't care, sorry.
-
Man United.
-

yes you boring git ;) I would like manure at home
-
It doesn't matter, we'll win 3-1 anyway.
-
Man U or Arsenal away.
-
It doesn't matter, we'll win 3-1 anyway.
In that case, definitely Man Utd at home.
-
I don't care. Hopefully a team that Phillipe Senderos plays for.
-
ManUre away. Might aswell get it over with quickly.
-
ManUre away. Might aswell get it over with quickly.
Nah, they'll all be worn out from their successful World Cup campaigns. We can just pick them off.
-
Tonev or Baker
-
Tonev or Baker
It's a cracker!
-
what about the guy who got his shorts pulled off ? He's been so anonymous I can't remember his name, but he looked quite good in the few minutes he was allowed on.
-
Helenius.
-
When are the fixtures announced?
-
ManUre away. Might aswell get it over with quickly.
This.
-
When are the fixtures announced?
Wednesday 18 June at 09:00 BST
-
Hull at home. Some midtable team so we can get 3 big points closer to Premiership survival!
-
Luton.
I know they are not PL. I would just like them to be for this game.
Realistically - anybody.
-

Have Sky Sports News git the countdown clock in yet?
-
A new rule was brought in three years ago that Villa have to start in London. The breweries down there need a boost come August after a summer of tea drinking tourists.
Probably the south's turn and Palace this time having helped out the west, east and north on the last three opening days.
-
Arsenal away will do just nicely ta. Easy three points. Perhaps big Phillipe can oblige by grabbing the winner against his former employers.
-
Any non-league team at home will do.
-
Not any of the promoted teams please.
-
Any team we stand a reasonable chance of beating.
-
Any team we stand a reasonable chance of beating.
But we didn't get relegated?
-
Any team we stand a reasonable chance of beating.
that's narrowed it down
-
Hull or West Brom then, they managed to finish below us.
-
Any team we stand a reasonable chance of beating.
I think that's basically Norwich. So we're fucked.
-
What about Newcastle? They'll be feeling as miserable as we do right now.
-
A home game against Leicester.
-
Yanited at home
-
I really dont care who we take on as long as we have a proper training regime in place over the summer. I want the lads to come back fighting fit.
Time to return to older, tried and tested training techniques upon which this once glorious club was built.....

-
Man City away - get it out the way
-
A home game against Leicester.
I never like playing the promoted teams early on , they are still on a high and up for it.
Play them when the honeymoon period wears off.
-
I was going to suggest Burnley away as fancy that game this year but we always tend to lose early on to promoted teams.
Always nice to start off home at first, we haven't had a home game to start the season for a few years now.
-
I'll put money on the opening day fixtures including Manure at home to Burnley, Chelsea at home to Leicester, and QPR at home to someone they have a chance of beating....say, erm....us
-
Someone worse than us, but that don`t half narrow it down a bit.
-
Southampton might not be bad. Half the team are leaving over the summer, as well as the manager.
-
Am I right in thinking we haven't started at home for last three seasons?
-
Any team we stand a reasonable chance of beating.
I think that's basically Norwich. So we're fucked.
Norwich got relegated, so we're even more fucked than you thought we were.
-
Yeah, too early to think about this. TBH I can't wait for the World Cup and will worry about Villa after that.
-
Leicester away....:(
UTV
-
any one from the bottom half at Home, I am glass half full, at the moment f the take over think with players coming back experienced PREMIERSHIP players coming in, we should be alright.
LOVE THE VILLA
-
Fixturs are out next Wednesday?
-
Fixturs are out next Wednesday?
Yep
-
Am I right in thinking we haven't started at home for last three seasons?
Yes, although they were all home games for you.
-
I think it will be a home start and will plump for it being either Man Ure or Noocassel.
-
Well if they are out next wednesday then I am forced to predict and so will go for...................................Barcodes at home, two under fire managers to kick off our season in typically dull fashion. The sad thing being that Pardrew is far more likely to see out his eight year contract than we are to survive :'(
Will go for QPR away to close, maybe we can take Harry's lot down with us ;)
-
Is it tomorrow (well, today for most of you) that the fixtures come out?
-
Is it tomorrow (well, today for most of you) that the fixtures come out?
If Wednesday comes after Monday, then yes.
-
Someone worse than us.............................................so a pretty short list.
-
I have this feeling we will get Man United at home for our first game.
-
I have this feeling we will get Man United at home for our first game.
I've heard this rumour aswell.
-
A friend just texted me that it's been leaked we've got Man U at home first. I'd be happy with that but there's always a made-up link in advance so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.
-
Yanited are slow starters so bring it on
-
Someone crap at home. I'll go for Burnley.
-
It's that time of the year when the made-up fixture lists come out.
-
It's that time of the year when the made-up fixture lists come out.
Yep.
Manchester United @themanutdway 40m
INFO: Manchester United will play away to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, according to leaked information. #mufc
-
I'll go for couldn't give a monkeys, just relieved it's still a PL fixture list we're looking at.
-
The fixtures always seemed to be leaked and are never correct. Still get Man Ure out of the way if true.
-

Full 'made up' list for opening day
Villa v Manure
Burnley v Newcastle
Chelsea v Everton
Hull v wet spam
Liverpool v arsenal
Citeh v Southampton
Spuds v Leicester
Stoke v QPR
Sunderland v Palace
Swansea v Smethwick
-
Last 3 seasons we have started away to a team in London
-
If that Man Utd rumor is true (which I doubt) then I guess some MOTD pudit will be saying that famous phase about us on the opening day, but once again he would be wrong because before long we will be winning the a certain league title right ;)

No doubting which is the "glamour" tie.

Yanited are slow starters so bring it on
Except that now they are crap it might be the other way round, they started pretty well last season.

Judging by the way we started last season, we shouldn't care who we play ;-)
I wonder if things would have been different had we got the three points from Chelsea second game rather than the zero we did get, whether we might have got some real momentum from that, some proper confidence.

I don't think so because all season our problem was never against the bigger teams, but against the rest. Also, for quite a lot of the first half of the season we actually played quite well even when we lost.
-
Prem League won't finish until Sunday 24 May next season (same weekend as play-off finals) with FA Cup final on Sat 30 May and Champs League final in Berlin on 6 June.

I doubt it. We had a home game after Chelsea
-
Just for the hell of it mu mind up Fixtures
Arsenal VS. Leicester (early game)
Villa VS. Newcastle (the match we always should win but never seem to >:()
Burnley VS. Everton (now this would be a cracker!)
Liverpool VS. Sunderland
Man Utd VS. Spurs (late game)
QPR VS. Man City (sunday game) (the battle of the annoying rich clubs)
Southampton VS. Chelsea (Monday night game if such thing still exists)
Crystal Palace VS. Hull
Stoke VS. Swansea
West Brom VS. West Ham
Beat that people!
-
At home to Man Utd on the first day? Maybe, but there is a chance this is fake so take with a pinch of salt.

Linker would be spraying his shorts over the Foxes-Spurs opener and begging than it headline MOTD!
I would take Utd at home first game, it would pull a big crowd and should get the players right up for the season. Also if we get a kicking at least that is one out the way early.
I call bullshit on this list because very rarely do they feature two of the top teams against each other on the opening weekend (think the last time was Chelsea-Utd about ten years ago), and also you normally get one of the big boys against a newly promoted side.
-
My mates just sent me the same pic, I'd be happy, they always start slow and it gets it out of the way
-
It'll be QPR away!
-
playing any of the contenders early is much better than facing them once they hit their stride.

The 15th August is a Friday
-
Opps! Well to be fair you wouldn't put it past these damn cable channels to move the fixtures to a friday night ;)
-
12 minutes to go - hope we don't get any newly promoted sides early on.
-
Can't be as hard as last seasons opening fixtures surely.
-
Away to Stoke.
-
Then Newcastle at home, Hull at home and Liverpool away.
-
Not a bad set of fixtures - 3 of last 4 at home...
-
Not to bad a start
-
To be honest at the moment I'm really struggling to drum up any enthusiasm for it, I really hope we're in a much better place by the time it kicks off. However looking at it, it's a reasonable first few games and then a horrible September.
-
So not Manure after all then (winky thing)
-

This .
-
September's and October look horrible. Have to start well or bottom at Christmas.
-
Probably more importantly, West Ham, Southampton, Burnley as the last three matches.
That could have been a lot worse.
-
Three out of the last four games are at home. We are rubbish at home.
-
September's and October look horrible. Have to start well or bottom at Christmas.
That's the spirit.
-
Yep. Feeling a lot worse now I realise we have to actually play again.
-
Not to bad a start
Really? We hardly ever win at Stoke and Newcastle under Pardew are a bogey team for us. And basically we get last season's August in September this time. Would be surprised if we aren't bottom 6 by the end of September.
Burnley at home on the last day aswell, I would like to think they'll be little riding on that game!
-
September's and October look horrible. Have to start well or bottom at Christmas.
That's what I thought. Have been feeling quite good about football whilst this entertaining World Cup is on. Somehow the fixtures have helped the dread to hit home again. September, October and April all look horrible.
-
Have to say looking at some of the away trips...what bright spark though Swansea was local to the Midlands for a boxing day match?!
Hull and Crystal Palace also midweek trips for the hardcore.
-
We've got a good start but those September fixtures look bad let's hope we can pick a few wins before then.
-

You never know with the big teams. We have a pretty good record against them last season and it's always better to play them early on when new signings are settling in/players are fatigued from the WC, we won't lose all those games.
My concern is we won't win any of Stoke, Newcastle and Hull!
-
September though!
-
http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/FixturesAndResults
-
I think 4 points from the first 8 games
Draw with Stoke, loose to Newcastle, beat Hull, loose to Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Everton
-
Our relegation run-in could be worse, looks like we're getting our tough fixtures out of the way early.
Well tough on paper - we'll probably do well against the "top teams" and get battered by Stoke, Palace etc.
-
I think we've been shafted, I think it's wrong how you can get all the top teams in a row, that is what effectivley relegated Norwich
-
I just knew we'd end up having to play all those teams.
Not that bothered about which order they come in, except for possible away trips. Swansea already ruled out (Boxing Day in front of the tele this year!) but a boozy day in London before the Tuesday night game at Palace in December is already sounding more appealing that having to get out if bed for Palace at home on New Years Day.
I'm also not keen on having to play Albion a couple of days after we've won the League Cup.
-

Not sure and I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be suprised if we were Swansea's nearest club (or the Boggies, just actually), but they're not ours, obviously!
-
Stoke win - no qualms. Unless we have our 1 good game in 8.
As we are deep in the mire and currently see doom and gloom I want to roll back the best part of 2 decades.
Man U at home - very difficult opener though bemused why they haven't replace Ince and Kanchelskis as yet. Not our problem.
Draper is a fine sigining IMO. Good ball player, wide range of passing, interesting to see the formation with Taylor and Townsend and Southgate all central midfielders. Fresher look though to replace the aging Richardson, Houghton and Parker.
Despite the naysayers I think Southgate is a good player.
Not sure about Johnson and Charles as they didn't pull up many trees and Derby but showed promise before that.
As for the Yugoslav lad - no idea but an exciting signing - big gamble which could make a difference between mid table and push for Europe. We'd seen the best of Deano and the less said about his lazy sicknote strike partner the better.
-
Are we actually requesting to be away first game every fucking season? Is the pitch not quite ready or something?
-
Are we actually requesting to be away first game every fucking season? Is the pitch not quite ready or something?
I was just gonna post this. Can't remember the last time we played at home first game.
-
2010/11 - when we beat West Ham 3-0 under Kevin Macdonald.
Probably the last time I had any optimism about the Villa.
-
September though!
My thought entirely!
-
Brilliant, 38 winnable games in a row
-
We showed last season the ability to raise our games against the very best and play like a non league team vs teams we thought we should be beating. The fixtures could have started Arsenal (a), Chelsea (a), Liverpool (h) and the possible outcome just as unpredictable as what next seasons first few games actually will be.
-
I look through that list and wonder where the hell we're going to get a win from.
Relegation is on the cards this season I think.
I have no confidence in us winning a game (though obviously we will win at least some (!) of them).
-
It's the first time for 24 years I haven't had to plan my next twelve months out today.
-
I look through that list and wonder where the hell we're going to get a win from.

That's the spirit!
-
My main gripe is that the FA Cup Third Round is being played TWO DAYS after a full set of Premier League fixtures. Do they not want clubs to treat it seriously?
Sorry, stupid question.
-
Have to say looking at some of the away trips...what bright spark though Swansea was local to the Midlands for a boxing day match?!
As local as it gets for Swansea. The alternative is to have them play away every Boxing Day but that would hardly be fair.
-

It's what I've been dragged down to!
-
Lets face it, the state the club is in all fixtures look scary. That run of 5 games Sept to October with the 6th away to QPR looks frightening.
We really need the clubs future to be sorted out before the season starts.
-
If you're hoping to catch the highlights of our opening game on Match of the Day, be prepared to stay up late.
-
It's the first time for 24 years I haven't had to plan my next twelve months out today.
Me too and as sad as it is, I'm quite relaxed about it!
-
Away again! Can't remember the last time we had a homer on opening day?
Anyway I note on the official site that there is only one Football Club we are playing this season in the guise of Hull City.
-
Paul Lambett - manager of the month for September. You read it here first.
-

And last probably.
-
I think we'll be in the bottom 3/4 by December. JC and PS are absolutely garbage signings and won't be the quality injection we desperately need.

Yeah that Joe Kole is awful.
-

As local as it gets for Swansea. The alternative is to have them play away every Boxing Day but that would hardly be fair.
They could always play in their own countries pyramid!

Or get relegated so that they can play Cardiff.
-
Why would they want to sack all their players and go part-time just to join a pointless league that was founded eighty years after they were?
-
Why would they want to sack all their players and go part-time just to join a pointless league that was founded eighty years after they were?
To save on fuel costs?
-
Not a bad idea. I think I wouldn't mind Villa joining the Midland Combination... we might even win the odd game!
-
As it goes Swansea do their best with tickets prices. They offered us a reciprocal £20 ticket deal last season which Villa pathetically bartered up to £25.00. It might be a free coach game as well so not too bad an Xmas away game cost wise.

You sound pretty clued up, do you think we'll get any free travel next season?
-
I feel pretty gloomy and despondent about our chances next season so I will say nothing about the fixture list apart from I think we're in trouble unless things get sorted out quickly.
-
It's the first time for 24 years I haven't had to plan my next twelve months out today.
Dave, is that just because you won't be out on the streets selling or you are taking a break altogether?
-
Not selling something? You know better than that!
-
It's the first time for 24 years I haven't had to plan my next twelve months out today.
Dave, is that just because you won't be out on the streets selling or you are taking a break altogether?
No, Lambert's not renewed Dave's contract. He's going for has-beens instead of young and hungry! ;-)
-
Stoke away is my least favourite game. It's an horrendous starter.
-
Stoke at home is my least favourite game, because I feel obliged to attend.
-
We all know Dave is going into the half and half scarf business.
-
I might be wrong but I could have sworn I saw Stoke away and Newcarrsul at home - I am not exactly scared to death of facing those two to be honest.
-
So, Leeg and Mr Shin are we having a day out in Stoke?
-
Stoke away is not a bad start, as long as we don't try and out Stoke them.
Nice to finish the season in the sunshine (hopefully) on the coast.
-
So, Leeg and Mr Shin are we having a day out in Stoke?
I might be up for it if I can find a reference to use. Probably Leeg's if he isn't going haha
-
Rest assured it will still feel like -5 and blowing a gale up there in the middle of August.
-
So, Leeg and Mr Shin are we having a day out in Stoke?

Not renewing my ST. Will go if I can get a ref no.
-
Leeg, you need to check if your away games from last season will still be valid on your Ref, even without a ST for next season.
-
Will do, but I doubt it.
-
Haven't renewed our season tickets yet, does anyone know what the latest date is to renew? I'm too idle to find out for myself right now.
-

Think most of the dates have gone - relocation day is end of next week then they go on general sale
-
Its a pretty tough start for me. Stoke away is never easy and they did have a really good season last time, so without sounding too dull, a boring 0-0 would be fine by me. Then I think the next two matches might lead to a few points, and having Liverpool and Arsenal back to back will be tough, but then getting big teams early in a season is not always a bad thing. Its hard to predict Villa really, but that is a finely tough start. I think we need to get something from the first game, and perform better in the home matches than we did last season and then build from there.
