A summer divergence from the no takeover no news.
What 20 clubs would you like to see in the Premier League ?
My selection below based on wanting to see non 'plastic' teams with history, proper football grounds - not stadia and good geographical mix and local derbies :
West Midlands :
Villa
Baggies
Wolves
East Midlands :
Derby
Forest
Yorks & North East :
Newcastle
Sunderland
Leeds
Sheff Weds
North West :
Liverpool
Everton
Man Utd
London :
Arsenal
Spurs
West Ham
Chelsea
Others :
Norwich
Bristol City
Celtic
Rangers
-
Celtic
Rangers
Sorry, what?
-
I wouldn't want Celtic and Rangers anywhere near English football. Too much baggage and they'd bring out the very worst from the fans down here.
-
Celtic and Rangers? No thanks.
-
The original 12 founding members plus any other 8 from the midlands or north.
-
If we're being silly and opening it up to Scotland and therefore the rest of Europe then Villa would be the only English ones in my 20, apart from maybe Dawlish Town. Let's see, there's Bordeaux, Monaco, Malaga, Alkmaar, Cork, St Pauli would be a fun weekend, Inverness...
-
F**k Norwich as well. Their fans are twats, their board are small minded biggots, Delia Smith, carrott muchers, stupid accents, shagging their own sisters etc etc

That's the sort of bigotry Alan Partridge would come out with.

Accrington have gone under.

Well their sort of reincarnation of a reincarnation then.
Lets face it, a club that has been mentioned that only been in existence for two years from what could soon be a foreign country.
-
And if it's non-stadia based you can exclude Wet Spam once they move to the Olympic stadium in 2016. And how could you exclude Fulham?! So Fulham in place of West Ham for me

On the other hand if we're going East Anglia haven't Ipswich got more pedigree?
-
Going on most seasons in the top flight and ignoring anyone who's moved into a new ground in about the last 15-20 years I've got the following:- (note; my choice would exclude scummy teams like Leeds, Blues and Chelsea).
Everton
Villa
Liverpool
Man Utd
Newcastle
Chelsea
Baggies
Blackburn
Wednesday
Wolves
Sheff Utd
Blues
Forest
Burnley
Dirty Leeds
Preston
Portsmouth
Notts County
Blackpool
Ipswich

Villa + a mix of 19 teams from the Conference North
-
We'd still be flirting with relegation...
-
I'm really going to miss Fulham away this season. Such a bloody good day out.
-
Villa + a mix of 19 teams from the Conference North
Give it a few years and at current rate of progress you may get your wish! It'll just be called "Conference North" rather than "Premier League" if that's OK?
-
Noticeable that no-one is falling over themselves to include Man City.

Ok, based on the Tourettes / UKIP-like reaction I will bin off the 2 Glasgee clubs and add back in :
Sheff Utd
Fulham (only on basis of their ground, otherwise to me, they are 'pony')
I'm keeping Naarwich as (a) I live near there and (b) I want a good geographical mix, but accept Ipswich have an argument
Although the Blackburns, Boltons etc have bragging rights as being part of the original 12, they just dont get the crowds for me, if youve ever been to a game somewhere like Sheff Weds or Utd there is a 'proper' atmosphere.
I'm including West Ham on the basis that they dont move. They are THE East Lahndon club. Same with Arsenal, but I'd argue their ground is single new ground with any architectural merit.
Any arguments for others to be included in the Proper Premier League ?
-
Derby would have to go as they have one of the new stadia you mention. I'd also include Cardiff as they have pedigree having won the FA cup as well. Just thought about it and Cardiff wouldn't be eligible as they have a plastic ground.

I've made up two lists. The first is one made up of teams that have all appeared in the top flight. On the plus side we might actually stand a chance of making the Champions League. On the negative side the way things are currently going we might actually be playing a few of these teams in the not so distant future.
List 1
Aston Villa FC (104)
Bury (22)
Glossop (1)
Darwen (2)
Northampton Town (1)
Carlisle (1)
Barnsley (1)
Leyton Orient (1)
Swindon (1)
Oxford United (3)
Luton Town (16)
Brentford (5)
Watford (8 )
Bristol City (9)
Grimsby Town (12)
Oldham Athletic (12)
Bradford City (12)
Luton Town (16)
Blackpool (28)
Notts County
I ignored certain teams that have appeared in the top flight for example Millwall (2) well... because they're Millwall! And anyway Darwen have appeared in the top flight twice too and D is before M ;-)
List 2
(the more traditional option - where we currently have no chance of winning the league or Champions League qualification)
Aston Villa FC
Everton
Arsenal
Wolves
West Brom
Spurs
West Ham
Liverpool
Man United
Man City
Newcastle
Sunderland
Sheffield United
Sheffield Wednesday
Leeds
Nottingham Forest
Portsmouth
Stoke
Derby
Preston NE (or Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Notts County)
Did you know????
Arsenal were "elected" to the Top Flight in season 1919-20 and remain the only club since the formation of the Football League in 1888-89 who never earnt their place on merit!!
-
Villa + a mix of 19 teams from the Conference North
We can't compete financially with the likes of Barrow...
-
They're an honest bunch of clod-hoppers.
-
Liverpool? Spurs? Chelsea?
-

Newcastle , Fulham, hull, Brighton , Bournemouth , Blackpool , Ipswich (gt yarmouth), Exeter , Bristol R (Weston SM), Southend , Whitehawk , Swansea (Barry Is) , west ham (Isle of Sheppey - never done this one though)
Great call.

Nearly! Barry Island is a damned sight closer to Cardiff than Swansea!
-
James, thanks. Thought it was equi-distant but only been there once. Decent night out though .
-
Villa
Crap Midlands teams excluding Small Heath cos can't be arsed with the aggro
Crap seaside teams
Crap teams from places I fancy visiting but haven't got around to like York City, Windsor FC and Spartak Stonehenge
and Fulham, obviously.
I already miss Fulham. I bet the bastards get promoted the same year we go down, just to spite me.
-
Oh I forgot Wigan
Cheap beer, cheap tickets and great pies.
-
AFC Wimbledon
-
Well, their old incarnation used to beat us and I imagine their ground will be a pain to get to so, no thanks.

whitehawk ? Good god no
-
Controversially, those that are there through the usual promotion/relegation mechanism.

Trust me, the Isle of Sheppey is to be avoided at all costs. Are you sure you didn;t mean the Isle of Dogs...?
-
No thanks to Small Heath. FC United of Manchester fine, plastic cockernee wankas Man United no way.
-
Aston Villa and 19 other teams we can hammer home and away.
-
Celtic
Rangers
In that case:
Barcelona
Young Boys
River Plate
Jossy's Giants
Melchester Rovers
New York Cosmos
-
Where the feck is Glossop?

Why not ? We'd probably take 4 points off them
-
Aston Villa and 19 other teams we can hammer home and away.
So Norwich, Wolves, struggling, Hull City, struggling to think of another 16....
-
Struggling FC would beat us easily.
-
Where the feck is Glossop?
Derbyshire.
-
How about renaming this thread `Who do you want in Football League Division One when the Premier League goes bust` ?
-
Struggling FC would beat us easily.
lolz
-
Where the feck is Glossop?
Derbyshire.
I was really shocked to see that Glossop had played in the top flight.

I think they were given the rightful place of Spurs as well. No wonder they hate them.
-
Villa; blose; Albion; wolves; forest; west ham; Fulham; arsenal; spurs; Chelsea; saints; l'pool; Everton; Man U; city; Leicester; cov; derby; Preston; sorry, I'll swap stoke for Sunderland, if I may. Reckon maybe even 'boro might get a guernsey over derby.
-
Well my local team Brighton have been on the fridges the last two years, but have also for the second straight seasons lost their manager. Also they were punching above their weight. With the right managerial appointment and a few good signings they could make the Play-Offs again, don't think are top two material.
Would be good to see Wigan, Derby and Reading come up. Maybe Middlesborough for old times sake.
