Title: Herbert on Scudamore.
Post by: The Laughing Policeman on May 20, 2014, 08:09:56 AM
Our former glorious leader claims to have got Scudamore his job at the PL and then waxes lyrical about the billions in Sky money that Scudamore got for the PL as if that's the most important thing in this sorry mess.
The Beeb should stop contacting 90 year old fossils for quotes.

I didn't hear him today but I did the other night, and he was rambling and sounded confused.

I agree, he's 90 years old, it's unfair to get him on radio any more.

is it just me that thinks the only reason Scudamore hasn't been shown the door is because his fellow bigwigs at the Premier League are paranoid that the contents of their emails are just as incriminating?

I bet the delete button on the computers at Premier League HQ have taken a hammering in the last week

Whether Scudamore's e-mails were private or not, he sent them and disrespected women generally by his remarks. He's not fit to hold the job and should be sacked, but of course all his mates at the premier league are probably just as bad.

Yup - and that is why they voted for him to stay on. Especially as he is the one who gets the goose to lay golden eggs.

It's not just you Chico.  It's the same for politicians.  The reason that politicians from across the so-called political divide are so reluctant to expose any wrong-doing on the other side is because their laundry is every bit as dirty.

What did Scudamore actually say? On every report I've read it says he's made sexist remarks but doesn't mention what they were.

Just heard that they've decided to take no action on Scudamore but are suing the woman who leaked the emails. Just about sums the state of the suits running the game now.

In one he said women are irrational, and in another he referred to "big tiited broads."

Here you go - http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/premier-league-boss-richard-scudamore-3524857

I'm far from a fan of Richard Scudamore on the basis he's had by far the biggest influence (after HDE) in destroying any chance of the Villa competing at the top of the league but this does seem to have been blown out of proportion quite substantially.  They're stupid emails to send but as an example, the quote in the second line of this report isn't even something he wrote!  You get the feeling he's got a few enemies in Fleet Street who've spied an opportunity to take him down.

Dein mentioned big-titted broads. Scudamore talked about "gash" and how irrational women get especially when preggers. He's fathered five kinder, you'd he might be a bit more understanding, the squinty eyed streak of piss.

I absolutely don't think he should be sacked for that. They were private conversations with friends. Just because they were on work emails doesn't change that. Nothing he said is any worse than the stuff that goes in the jokes thread or, as previously mentioned, the tit monday thread. I read those and chuckle. That doesn't make me a bigot or sexist.

If we all got sacked for finding crude humour (whether about women or anything else) funny, then only the pious and righteous would be allowed to work. What matters iswhether he can separate private humour from his professional dealings with women. And I'm sure most grown ups can do that.

It isn't just blokes who say these things either. I listen to my wife and her friends, all city professionals, and they come out with all sorts of stuff that wouldn't be appropriate in the work environment. Especially after a few glasses of wine.

He's apologised and that should be that. The mock horror from the Mirror and that PA is vexatious.

Just a bit of healthy blokes' banter, dunno why the ltitle ladies are getting their g-strings in such a twist. Man up, grow a pair, get a grip etc...

And using City professionals as a yardstick for appropriate behaviour??? most I know are complete pricks ( fannies, if they're ladies)

Most city professionals I know are normal people who worked incredibly hard at school and university to go into tough professions. Who throw their heart and soul into their jobs because they have an incredible drive and work ethic. Like women who work for top law firms and do 14 or 15 hour days, work weekends, have to give up holidays at the drop of a hat and have earned every penny they've been given.

I'm proud of what my wife and her friends do. And they are not fannies. But they also don't fake outrage at people having a sense of humour.

Yeah OK, that might be a fair point.

Of course, lots of other city professionals spend their work time on H&V. That's why I married one who doesn't.

Just felt Doug came across as what he is: an old man reminiscing about the days when he meant something.  We, probably better than most, were not going to be surprised that he wanted the plaudits for getting Scudamore into the post (he didn't, but might as well have said, "he's like a son...") and that the one redeeming feature he gave was that he made a stack of money for the Premier League.

An interesting observation that no current club owner was prepared to be interviewed.  I'm sure that Doug was flattered to be remembered, but I just wish someone would have a friendly word with him.  His day has gone - and going on the record over current football events is only going to get more embarrassing for all concerned as the years go by.

He wasnt discussing blowing up Euston Station, they were the sort of sentiments that most blokes discuss every day whether they are prepared to admit it or not. these Emails were private, the Woman who leaked them undoubtedly had one eye (If not both) on her Bank Balance, She is guilty of more than Scudamore is, she betrayed his trust, broke data-protection laws etc. This is just another attack on privacy and freedom of speech - as for what Scudamore wrote, "Let he is is without sin" etc` etc`.

I haven't read the content of the emails, but IMO your line about let he who is without sin misses the point. No one is perfect, but that isn't an excuse to justify acceptance of bad behaviour. I've stopped being surprised that some men still regard sexism as acceptable in this day and age.

Be interesting to hear from one of our legal eagles about the DPA in the context of email content. As regards the woman in question making money (I don't know her name), maybe she will, but as she's likely to be sued according to this thread, she will need it.

Dont think i`m missing the point at all, bad behaviour would be if he made these sort of comments directly and in public, which he most certainly did not, my whole point is that these comments were made in private and never meant for public consumption, and until we all become Robots, we are entitled to our private opinions without having to worry about the thought Police, how long is it going to be before our children are being encouraged to denounce their parents as sexist, racist, this-ist, that-ist, if you are concerned at all about civil liberties think about that.

I think you're possibly mistaking civil liberties with the right to be offensive but realise I may be missing your point. I personally don't agree that because something takes place in private it's acceptable, but happy to agree to differ.

I think Scudamores position is completely and utterly untenable and he should fall on his sword, as a certain Mr. Gray and Mr. Keys did not so long ago.   Yes the E-Mail's should not have been made public and the PA is probably guilty of gross misconduct for leaking them, but I think making disparaging remarks about women whilst trying to tackle sexism in football and encourage more women to participate and attend matches is rather hypocritical.

If he was my employee I would be taking action against the PA, but I think I would be giving Scudamore 24 hours to write his resignation before dismissing him for gross misconduct and breaching my organisations IT and conduct at work policies if he failed to take the hint.   If you are going to be a professional executive you behave like a professional executive, not a complete [insert expletive of choice...]

Perhaps the most appropriate description for Scudamore is a Herbert!!!

I could kind of understand it if email was new to the workplace. I was there when it was! A directive went out from The Local Authority (oo-er) to everybody in schools and at the Town Hall, pointing out that they had a code of conduct about the content of work emails and people were forgetting or not realising that some stuff they were sending was inappropriate because it was 'out there' forever for anybody to read under a need to know, a concept that many of us needed to learn!

The dinosaur comment is the most apposite and I agree, he does know better. The decision not to censure him and to go after the whistleblower is thinking from pre email times, when private notes could remain private. Says a lot about the FA.
