Unless there are serious changes in the summer at board, managerial and playing level, we will most probably be relegated.

Hard to disagree with that statement Leeg apart from the "probably" bit...
-
Yep, to be honest this squad is desperately poor and the coaching is non-existent.
-
In summer of 1990 after a year of struggle we gained Ron Atkinson, signed Rico, Dalian, Staunton and the next couple of years were a joy.
In summer of 1995 after a year of struggle we had Sir Brian, signed Southgate, Draper and Savo and the next couple of years were a joy.
In summer of 2006 after a year of struggle we had MON, moneybags Randy and eventually signed Petrov, Carew, and Ashley Young and next couple of years were a joy.
In summer of 2014 after 3 years of struggle ........................................... who knows?

That has been said the previous three years. This year is further proof that you have to be staggeringly shit to get relegated. Us just being shit has meant we ultimately stayed up comfortably.
-
For most of this season there's been a bottom 10 of pure shit. I don't think it'll be the case next season. Some clubs will improve. I also don't see us pulling off as many results against the better sides, which ultimately is what kept us up.
Stay as we are, and we're down. Especially with Benteke set to miss a lot of action. As we saw after his injury last season, it takes him a while to get back into the swing. We could find ourselves next Jan-Feb, with too much to do.
New manager and owner please.
-
It won't be the same manager and possibly owner. I'm hanging on to that hope for dear life. The opposite will bring about the inevitable.

If we continue to play like we did for the second half of the season, we'll be relegated by March next year.
-
We're slowly going in the wrong direction. One win against a half bothered Hull and a draw at home to Southampton in the last 9 games. 7 defeats.
-
I think a major problem is this Benteke injury. Realistically he won't be playing until xmas and even then he'll take a while to get back to speed (think of the Benteke in November-December as an example of this). He didn't have that great a season this year but you still see how much offer teams respect him and his presence. Would we have won that Norwich game without him on the pitch? That was the difference between us staying up and going down really.
We've seen in the run in we are completely toothless upfront without him and Kozak coming back won't solve it as he's too limited in his overall play. That and how inept our midfield is at creating chances.
Lots for the new manager to sort out.
-
It CAN'T be the same manager. And I hope the owner either changes, or has an attitude change.
£30 million to stand still. Sunderland, Hull, Albion, Us, Burnley, Leicester etc will be looking on. No big squad changes and we are not just a bit in trouble, but we are done.

Last 19 games we got 18 points. 2 points worse than the first 19 games.
-
It's not just the points though, it's the level of play.
-
This summer window is a replay of last January's window. In January somebody - Lerner, Lambert, Faulkner either individually or collectively opted for the cheap option. We got Grant Holt on loan. If the same mentality continues through the summer, the "survival in the premiership on the cheap" dressed up as prudent stewardship of the club, I do not think we have a cat in hell's chance of survival in the premiership.
-

Which was about the same level of crapness most of the time as the first 19 games. My point is, as shit as we've been most of the season, we were actually safe this season after 29 games, on the 15th March. You have to be staggeringly shit to go down.
-
We should put it on a scarf, "we're just shit, not staggeringly shit"
-
That could be the new club motto.

In the summer of 2525
If Randys reign is still somehow alive
Everything we think, do and say
will be the same as that shit today

I actually think we could turn around the momentum of the club, from dropping like a stone to securing mid table, by signing one or two proper, decent players. It would just give the players/fans/staff a message that we aren't prepared just to drift down the league and out of the division and not give a fuck. Currently we're like playing with a baloon with all the air let out, pointless and not a lot of fun.

I would agree with that entirely. We are on death row - last 2 seasons have been a stay of execution (relegation) and unless big changes we are dead and buried next year.
-
It's all dependent upon truckloads of cash, otherwise more of the same.

Me too. I know some say 'better the devil you know' but the worst that could happen is relegation and that looks inevitable anyway if things stay as they are.
-
One small improvement I am looking forward to is that in my new superfast car and my son driving it the journey home after a game will cut the totally pissed off silence between us by about half an hour.

100% agree, we can but hope, again...

You got the one or two right but they need joining together 12!

The 2 wins v Norwich & having 5 teams worse than us have ultimately saved us >:(
-
Yes and the 15 teams who are better than us put paid to our title hopes for another year.
-
If nothing changes then next season will be fuckin painful.!

When taking the rest of the season into consideration, the out of the blue wins against Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea kept us up. Doing the double over Norwich also proved vital.
-
Plus Southampton away.

And somehow managing to win at Arsenal, at home to Man City and Chelsea and getting a good draw at Anfield. Looking at the final table and those games could have been reasonably expected to yield zero points. Had they done so, we would have been stuffed weeks ago.

And looking at the table we wouldn't have expected to have got zero points from Fulham over the season.
None of this means anything - we finished where we did because we deserved to. Over the course of 38 games there were 14 teams better than us and 5 worse. That's it.
-
Such a cheery thread!
We'll be fine, you'll see.
-
I'm generally one of the happy-clappers on here, I try to see the good in even the most atrocious performances.
But, we invest this Summer or we go down. I can't see anyway that we'll survive another season with the current playing staff, especially if Lambert is still in charge.
