I was thinking of going to the pub to watch it, but we never win when I watch us at the Strath (best result we had when I watched us there was the QPR 1-1 with tre last minute Dunne OG) and the other close pub, Ivy Bush, has a small heath sticker in the window. Too lazy to walk any further. So, do I go to the Strath or not.

Hart, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Yaya Touré, Kompany, Demichelis, Milner, Javi García, Dzeko, Silva, Nasri

We really should get smashed out of sight. So we'll prob draw or get skanked out of a result by the ref.

Big difference between offering gaps in midfield to Hull and showing such encouragement to Man City. They must be rubbing their hands.

Most of the gaps we offered was when Albrighton was on. I'm not saying it will work and it will depend on how much they push the wing backs back.

Got a pound on Villa to win 1-0, Delph to score. 380/1. If I'd known Bowery was gonna start I wouldn't have bothered. Can't see us scoring less than five now.

The perseonnel will not make much differnce. Three in midfield against that lot is offering space and asking for trouble.

Having the full backs pinned back will be problem but a secondary one. It's the two spectators up front I feel for.

Fear for us with that 5-3-2. It has its merits but in a game like this where we'll likely be chasing the ball quite a lot it just ends up being a flat five pinned back.

Best thing about tonight is it's our penultimate suffering and I do expect us to suffer. Lambs to the slaughter. I have a feeling we'll try and play football but with next to no pace up front, I can't see how we'll create any chances.

I just hope we can keep down what potentially looks like a cricket score. Knowing Villa, we'll probably do a really stupid thing and score first and really piss them off.

I am with you Leeg.   Calmest I have been all season.   The cats are all hiding, people are crossing the road as they pass the house, my hens are all having an early night.   All the things they all do on a Villa match day to avoid an outburst of rage aimed at the world in general and them in particular.   No need.   I am as calm as Bowery will be when he slides the winner through Hart's legs.

No pace at all? Weimann is very quick and Bowery is no slouch. Bertrand has pace too. If we had Benteke and Gabby, City would be bricking it.

Are we playing 19th century football or being tactically superb?

We're defending superbly.

We just don't have the outlet with Bowery up front.

I'd love, love to see Grealish come on. Fuck Bowery off, play Weimann up top on his own, stick the scrawny little Villa kid in the middle.

Fireworks would occur.

Agreed Bowery isn't offering anything really, Grealish could be a good option.

Think we've done alright so far. We've frustrated them and had a couple of decent breakaways ourselves. The backline has been excellent so far, Clark in particular.
Bertrand has played very well.
I think the front two have done well when we've managed to get into their half. Weimann looks confident and Bowery has been involved in a couple of our best moves. He's taken an absolute battering from Garcia this half but has come out of it well.
Delph has been sloppy on the ball today. He just needs to keep it simpler. He's not Pirlo. We're not gonna get the ball much so when we do we've got to be better with it.

The more we frustrate them the more joy we might get on the counter I think. Andi found himself one on one at one point. We've had a little luck thus far, so hopefully we'll nick something.

You make it sound as if it's tactical that we can't keep possession and keep 11 behind the ball, rather than a complete and utter lack of technique and footballing brains in our team.

Dzeko's bellend costs more than Villa's defence.

Kompany's Scrotum's cost more than our midfield.

And a moustache made of Aguero's pubes cost more than our strike force.

"Manchester City have now scored 152 goals in all competitions this season, 109 more than Aston Villa."

I have no idea what is going to happen this summer but I hope it is significant.

I can't fucking stand watching us be one of the joke clubs in the league for much longer.
Same here.
Yes sad to see Aston Villa reduced to team that's just there to be taken at will.

Harsh.  As a joke team, we used to lose this tie 5-0 or so. With their financial fair play mega cheats' team going for the title & costing hundreds of millions more than ours, we did well to park the bus for an hour.

That's fair enough if it was just about tonight, but it isn't.

We are a pathetic mess just making up the numbers.

Without a new owner and a new manager and some cash this summer we will continue our transformation into Wigan.

Oh yes. We all agree with that. Besides, City just went 3 up, so Lambert out!

You know what. Lambert actually set this game up correctly. Kept it as tight as he could so it wasnt a cricket score then played the kids. I have no problem with that.

We are fucking massively behind the rich clubs though.

Tbh, we always seem to lose to clubs in Manchester and Man Citeh have an average of over three a game at home so this was pretty much expected. Other games yes, but it's a waste really to use this one to have a go at anything.

At least there has been no late season flurry once we were safe like Houlliers season to paper over the cracks.  This is the worst Villa team I've seen since 1987 and I am amazed we have stayed up.  We've stunk the division out for so long, without major changes I wouldn't be surprised to see us rock bottom next May.
Title: Re: Manchester City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: brian green on May 07, 2014, 09:50:19 PM
The unpalatable truth this shows up is that there is so much wrong with us is one short summer enough to put things right enough that the bottom does not fall out of our boat next season.   The task ahead of us is a bigger one than that facing  a side promoted into the Premiership.   They at least have momentum and enthusiasm.   We have nothing.
