Anybody know who will take the penalty?

We should start with a 1-0 lead to compensate for the goal Dalian scored against them that was never given despite the ball being light years over the line.

By Saturday it's likely our 4 matches against Palace and Fulham would have yielded 0 points.

Palace was the nearest ground to where I lived through the 90s and I went to most Villa games there. We always looked off form in SE London & the scorelines prove it. Draws and defeats with no wins. Our naive players against a Pulis team suggests no better.

Its not the best place to go when your not in good form.  I've only been once and we missed the first 15 minutes of the game cus we couldn't find the damn place!

My heart says we can nick a win, but the head says Palace will thump us.

Gone for a villa win. Purely based on our inconsistency. Win a few, lose a few, win a few again. Plus it seems most people so far on the poll expect us to lose. So we'll probably win. 2-1 to Villa.

1-0 defeat. Cameron Jerome not scored in a while has he?

We're usually pretty rubbish against Pulis teams and managers of that ilk who realise all they have to do is defend deep and launch a few high balls at our backline.

Think we'll be reasonably comfortable but will concede from a late set piece.

When was the last time we actually beat Palace at Selhurst? We didn't even beat them in the cup a few years back under MON.

We pretty much never win at Selhurst, no matter how shit Palace/Charlton/Wimbledon were and how good we were.

So we'll draw. 10-10 and we go again.

Villa: Between Zero and Few

I also don't think Bono will be involved in any horrific accidents this week.

Puncheon always seems to have a cracker against us I can see him scoring.

Another defeat is inevitable i'm afraid, it will match the 4 consecutive losses in December to exactly the same teams.

If it happened before it will happen again. Also predicting us conceding a goal around 82-92 minute mark.

I'm going to this with a Palace fan, in the Palace end. Means if we score I have to keep quiet, I managed this three times at the Emirates in August. Given that result and the next unlucky loss at Stanford Bridge (thankfully in the Villa end) I cannot believe how far we've fallen.

I've gone for a Palace win and utter depression. Please, please prove me wrong Villa.

This is a game crying out for a Matt Lowton special. It was turning point for us last season, we could do with something like that again. Failing that, a concrete Ron screamer wouldn't go amiss.

I think as 'laymen' we have to understand that Lambert and his backroom team of master tacticians will have studiously assessed every facet of this woeful Palace side and set us up with Napoleonesque precision in order to extract the result we so richly deserve. 2-0.

I have been reading a Palace forum and found this comment, whether fact or myth, pretty nice to read. There are a few older heads talking about the history of Villa, with one young moron saying he hopes we do a Coventry. This is the reply:

"Did you know that Villa were instrumental in the birth of our club. Way back when Britain was great, the midlands was leading the world in industry, and Villa were a rich club run by powerful money men who also ran the mills and factories. They also financed the original Crystal Palace exhibition, the biggest glass structure ever.
They wanted to keep all the glass workers sweet so they helped them start a football team and donated one of the old villa kits. Hence the Glaziers.... hence the claret and blue."

but my father in law Palace season ticket holder , always goes on about Villa lending Palace their kit or colours back in the old days to help them out , so he has a soft spot for Villa.

I never knew what the actual story was ?

Chairman J. H. Cozens, and his predecessor Henry Gillman, consulted Aston Villa Football Club and, in particular. William McGregor who had been the founding father of the Football League. Mr McGregor fully endorsed the idea, stating in December 1904: "believe a really good team at The Crystal Palace would be a tremendous draw."

Aston Villa also offered the services of one of their assistant secretaries, Edmund Goodman, for the task of setting up this new club. Following his arrival in south London, Goodman was soon busy, first of all approaching Sydney Bourne, whom he noted was a great supporter of the Cup Finals, to be a director and, at the same time, finding five more like minded gentlemen. At the club's first meeting Bourne was elected chairman and the position of secretary was offered to Goodman.

Genuinely can't see a Villa win here, even though I have seen a lot of Palace this season and I know for a fact they are bloody awful. Also I think we're all trying the bluff of saying Villa are crap, Palace are on a roll etc... but then jinxing it and saying so therefore shock Villa win. You're not allowed to say that bit! Now we're all thinking a shock Villa win which means double shock Palace win and we all leave Selhurst Park in a huff while they sing their stupid kids songs. Still, I'm looking forward to another away day as I love you lot who go to the away games with me. Really hope the proper Villa turn up and it's an alright game at least, sitting in the Holte End on Saturday was an experience I'm not sure I want to go through again.

According to my scientifically accurate simulator (Or Fifa 14 to the layperson), the score will be 1-0 Palace. Jerome latching onto a Clark error to put the ball in the net. We'll huff and puff and create a few half chances but won't be able to break through.

Shit. I should be playing Tonev a bit more then I guess! ha ha.

I would actually play him tomorrow. I'd be hitting Palace with pace. Gabby, Tonev and Alby as a front 3 could work well. I think Holt is better as an impact player, and I'm not sure it's the game for him. Palace will be well set up to deal with a Holt at the back. They will be more susceptible to pace.

Tonev is getting closer though. He was a whisker wide against Utd. He had a good shot on target against Fulham. I think he's due a top corner special against Palace.

Need to keep the ball on the floor and run at them. I'd also play Andi through the middle - see how it works. Gabby and Marc to hug the touchlines to give us proper width.

Please, Villa. Just fucking win somehow. Gradually forgetting what it feels like! Having said that I have low expectations for this one. I'll joyfully take a draw but sort of expect a loss. Sad times in the history of this club.

Can not see anything but a defeat sad to say. I just think Palace will be more up for it ,like Fulham were last week. 1-0 to Palace with Jerome odds on to score

Greetings from Croydon, in the south part of that there London.

What a lovely place

Thornton Heath is where it's at Sox, it's the Bel Air of Croydon, tree lined Avenues, gated communities, boutique shops & small independent coffee shops.

It would be so nice one day going into a weekend really and truly believing we are going to win a game. Every weekend it seems we are bricking it whether we are playing Chelsea or Cardiff or anyone in between. It makes you hate football.

Villa have not beaten Palace away since 1980. If Lambert's Inconsistents can end that run at Pulis's Competents, I will be amazed.

I don't think winning at Palace would be particularly amazing feat to be honest.

Mind you, 34 years suggest it'd be an achievement of some type

*wink*

To be fair, this will only be the second time in 20 years we have played them in the league at Sellhurst Park.

4th time.

How the fuck anyone could have grant holte in the first eleven is beyond me! Are u all on the Lambert juice?? The one good going thing about him being in the team is u forget how bad the rest of the team is! 3-0 palace.

I am going to go out a limb and put forward the idea that this is based on how he played in our most recent game and scored a goal, but I could be wrong.

2-0 Palace.

0-0 written all over it for me.

If have holt in the side on the basis he was one of our best players and scored v Fulham and that we don't have benteke or kozak fit. It seems a fairly logical choice to me!

We really need to avoid defeat here as I'm almost certain Southampton will beat us next time around.

I'd have said the same before the Fulham game but Holt then played very well and was the best Villa player by a wide margin.

Given the lack of other options Holt did more than enough to earn another start

I'd play Holt simply based on the last game too.

He led the line like he'd been leading it for us for years. Limited he may be, but I was impressed - he was also one of the few who looked like he actually cared last week.

There is an alternative ............................

Jordan Bowery !!!!!

Grant Holt doesn't look that bad a choice!

Yes - Lambert has a habit of being outhought by competent, unspectacular established British managers - Moyes, Pullis, Hughes, Allardyce

Palace strong favourites, 3 straight defeats, people predicting we may not pick up another point this season, this is exactly the type of game we will win, 2-1 Villa

I'd drop Andi and give Bacuna a shot up front - sure he's got a few free kick goals but he seems able to beat a man and finish. Could be a striker in there.

I think Bacuna up in the front 3 would work ok. Holt deserves to play and kea and delph are welcomed back with glee. My concern is puncheon and bolasie out wide killing us. I would be tempted to play 4 4 1 1 to combat them.

Wouldn't be such a bad idea. Westwood and Delph in the centre with KEA further forward, the Gabster and Bacuna wide of Holt, 4-4-1-1 without the ball and 4-2-3-1 with.

After some consideration I have come to the sad conclusion that we are going to lose either 2-0 or 2-1.

and Grant Holt will be sent off.
