Post by: paulcomben on March 20, 2014, 09:36:48 PM
This must be on here, but blowed if I can find it, Mods. On the other hand, I got upfront seats easily, so catch up fellows.  See you there, but, hey, me first for photos & autographs!

Saw it tonight. Got four tickets. Occasionally, you hear a snippet. Pity they don't tell us which players are actually going to be there. It certainly won't be the whole team, as they seem to indicate it will be.

I do wish that if they were going to use a photograph of the players on the pitch they could picked one with Peter Withe in it.

Villa's European Cup winning heroes reunite at Birmingham Town Hall

Players to relive memories of club's greatest night at celebration event organised by Gary Newbon

Aston Villa’s European Cup winning team from 1982 are to be reunited – but on stage instead of on the pitch.

Former Central TV head of sport Gary Newbon has organised the night of conversation and match highlights at Birmingham Town Hall to coincide with the week of this year’s Champion’s League Final.

“The current owners of Aston Villa, people like Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner, recognise the importance of the most important night of Villa’s history and want to celebrate it,” he said.

“I’m organising the night with former Villa star Ken McNaught and all of the squad members who can make it will be there on the night.”

In a tense final, played on May 26, 1982 in Rotterdam, Peter Withe scored the only goal to beat Bayern Munich.

Manager Tony Barton had only recently replaced Ron Saunders who had resigned before the quarter-finals after winning the old Division One title the year before.

And, after ten minutes, goalkeeper Jimmy Rimmer was injured – leading to a second competitive match for substitute goalkeeper Nigel Spink.

Gary said: “The players have never had a chance to talk publicly about that night and they are all looking forward to it.

“Fans will be able to ask questions, take photographs and see about 15 minutes of highlights. I’m also hoping to have Villa’s replica of the cup on the stage, too.”

When Villa Ruled Europe will kick off at 7.30pm on Tuesday May 20.

Haven't lots of them talked 'publicly' about it the last 30 years? Sure it will be a nice event and stroll down memory lane for all concerned, but let's look forward to the next one can we?

Would anyone like two tickets to this event tomorrow evening, Tuesday 20 May at 7.30pm at the Town Hall? I bought them, but can no longer attend.

The total cost including booking fees was £33.50 for the two tickets. If you would like them, I suggest that you donate a similar amount to H&V and direct message me by 3.00pm today with your name and address for a Royal Mail delivery by 1.00pm tomorrow. First come, first served.

Are we the only winners of the thing ever to have done the shirt-swapping with opponents and not thought about how confusing it would look in the pics afterwards?
Coupled with the wearing of the away kit for the game, it's a real shame that there's everything but a fucking claret and blue shirt on display from the aftermath of the great night.

How was Spurs budget £110m? Most of the money they spent was the Bale money.
