Sat March 15th, 17:30 KO
Nobody's done one yet and it's drawing near.
So the Mourinho media band-wagon comes to Villa Park once more, historically we're their bogey team with him in charge. I don't know if it's the suddent spurt of nice weather, but I'm feeling food good about this.
Villa to win 2-1. Benteke and Vlaar to score.
-
1-1 and The Boring One continues his poor record at VP.

I dislike this bunch of M4 M3 Corridor mixture of Chavs, Thugs and Low Life more than just about any bunch of supporters. John Terry is their hero, says it all. I would love it, love it if we beat them and punctured their Title challenge.
No the money paid from Stalins mate makes them too strong for us sadly.
1-2

I am ushering in a new era of greatness. After we beat Chelsea a statue of me will replace the mural of Danlanza outside H&V Towers.

They're looking ominously good at the moment. They've got to slip up some time I guess though. I've still predicted a defeat.

Villa 5 (Benteke 3, Luna, Terry o.g.) Chelsea 2 (Cahill 2)
No problem.
-
Assuming Bertrand is loan-tied, it'll be interesting to see who plays out of Luna and Bennett. I'd personally go for Tony Moon but Bennett got some game time against Newcastle so I'm assuming he's Lambert's pick.
-
I might be tempted to go 3-5-2, Clark coming in at the back alongside Vlaar and Baker. Push Bacuna into a wide midfield role on the right. Not sure I trust either Bennett or Luna as a traditional LB. Might even be temped to give Tonex another go down the left. Betrand missing will be a blow.
-
Can't see us getting anything unfortunately. I will write this one off and concentrate on doing well in the rest of our home games.

I would consider giving Tonev a go on the swings and slides by Trinity Road while the game is on. Maybe give him a ball and see if he can kick it over the Holte End.
-
Shit - I forgot Bertrand can't play on Saturday , would prefer Bennett to luna but its a problem.
-
@MatKendrick: Chris Foy (and not Kevin Friend, thankfully) will referee Aston Villa v Chelsea on Saturday #avfc
-
It wouldn't surprise me if he went with five at the back for this one.

Defeat.
Next.
Ditto.
Sorry.

0-2 Cahill and Fwank.
-
Well, we got Mourinho the sack in his first spell at Chelsea. That was the match when Abramovich walked out early and Doug, grinning all over his face, tried to shake his hand as he left.

Good times!
-
Going for a narrow 2-1 defeat. Benteke for us
-
The sort of game where we'll probably play quite well, have some chances and they'll then go from first to second gear and probably score either side of half time.
Then they'll give us a load of the ball and it will finish 2-0.
Think I also agree with five at the back, flip a coin between Luna and Bennett.
-
We'll win 2-1. Benteke to get both of our goals. Cahill to get theirs and celebrate like he's just won the World Cup.
-
Us 3
Them 1

Us 3
Them 1
As above. It worked last time. And we scored one more.
-
Can't see any other result than a 2-0 win.
-
Can't see any other result than a 2-0 win.
To who?
-
1-1 draw
-
Oh yes ASTON VILLA.
I will have a cockney Chelski supporting friend with me so anything else is just not acceptable.
-
Birmingham City winning the Champions League would bother me less than this bunch of lottery winning chavs and Lovejoys winning a corner. I grew up in prime Chelsea territory and spent my youth taking the piss out of Chelsea fans and former players like Ron Chopper Harris who ran a sweet shop near home because never forget, they were shit, I mean proper shit and then along came Abramovich with his dirty money and bought them everything they've got. I can't wait for the day it all goes tits up for them.
-
They will have to much for us especially in midfield so home defeat it is, so hope I am wrong tho.
-
I think it's a nailed on defeat. The way this Chelsea team are set up makes it difficult for us to be able to break them down. We need a game and a tempo to be more upbeat for us to play well and look dangerous. Cheslea are a counter to that type of team and play at a slower tempo that suits them. So, for me it's about how we approach the game knowing how Chelsea will be tactically set up. Do that and play well and occasionally, and more, look threatening then we can keep the spirits up within the camp ahead of more 'important' games coming up.
-
Against all logic, Villa to upset the odds and get a 2-2 draw. I'd be very happy with that against the best team in the country on current form.
-
0-3 loss
-
I've rashly predicted a win, but would happily accept a draw. No logic to it other than we have done pretty well against them with mourinho in charge when they've played here.
-
We're the unpredictable Villa at the moment. Losing to teams we should beat. Beating teams we should stand no chance against. 0-0.
-
Wouldn't you just love to win this 1-0 with a dodgy penalty, ideally with that tosspot John Terry getting sent off and getting a lifetime ban from the offence...or just for being John Terry.
When I think back to the last 5 years and the bad decisions that have gone against us, so many tend to be against Chelsea, we rarely seem to get a decision against them.
Everything went against us at Stamford Bridge this season, you had the Benteke red last season, the cup semi when Gabby was hauled down at 0-0 in the box and even in the same season at VP he was through on goal, hacked down and the ref just waved play on. We did actually win that game 2-1 in the end.
I'd love it and be interesting to see how Mourinho's respect the ref campaign would play out on his favourite away ground (think VP is the only prem ground he's visited more than once he's yet to win on).
Being realistic though, can't see much past a comfortable 2-0 Chelsea win.
-
We're completely unpredictable and we have shown we are capable of playing with the big teams and giving a really good account of ourselves. We've also shown we can look about as dire as the worst teams in the division. I'm going for a cheeky 2-1, and a backs to the wall last 15 minutes with Vlaar and Guzan putting in monster defensive displays to help us see out the game.
-

Guzan's due a blinder, I think you might be right.
-
They get a dodgy first half goal that bounces off Guzan and on to a defender and into goal. Just as the half time whistle is about to go, Benteke pops up with smart shot on the turn in off the post. After an hour said Benteke does a forearm smash into Ivanovic's face and the ref is the only person in the stadium not to see it. Benteke then heads the winner in the last few minutes from a free kick that isn't even a free kick and Chelsea fans phone in all night moaning about how CB shouldn't have even been on the pitch. Sound familiar?
-
Our best performance of the season was against these feckers in August. If we play anywhere close to that we won't lose. We're mostly crap these days though and we have two complete liabilities waiting in the wings to play at left back.
Sad to say Mourinho's Villa Park curse to be lifted at last.
-
Probably a loss. I regard this as a "free" game. No real expectations to get anything, if we snag a point or better than that is a bonus.
-
Can't see anything other than a defeat unfortunately especially with Bennett or Luna filling in for Bertrand. Norwich showed how easy it is to open up our defence with short quick passing and the likes of Hazard and Oscar will find it easy. 3-1 to them and me moaning on the post match thread about how they can't even pronounce their name (Chehwsea ffs)
-
A game that could go any way really. We've a reasonable record against Chelsea. I don't read too much into our record vs Mourinho at VP, not least because the last time we played his Chelsea at Villa, we had a squad better in all but two positions. Our midfield in particular was just a million miles better than what it is now.
That said I think it'll be tight. We'll frustrate them. A point would be great, a win would be fantastic (particularly given it's against those bastards). A defeat wouldn't be surprising. Hopefully it won't effect our confidence too much going into more winnable matches.
I still fancy a point though.
1-1 Benteke.
-
3-2
Benteke, Agbonlahor, Holt

I fear you've got it spot on. Can't see Lambert out thinking Mourinho :(
-
Kevin Friend was their best player in August, as long as he isn't playing for them, then we will smash these plastic chancers.

are you going to tell Paulie you hate him more than James Nesbit or tim love joy?
-
Absolutely, I'm serious. And I never get Tim Lovejoy texting me at stupid hours to take the piss after another Villa defeat.
-
Ha ha - middle of the day for me!
-
There is not a more detestable club on the planet as Chelsea, and I include the Noses in that.
-
There is not a more detestable club on the planet as Chelsea, and I include the Noses in that.
And I second that. If I could have just one non Villa related wish in football, it would be for this bunch of classless twats to be relegated and go bankrupt all at the same time. To say I absolutely loathe them is the politest way I can describe it on here. I can't even go to matches against them for fear I might actually boil over and deck one of them - which I nearly did after the FA Cup semi final on the tube back from Wembley
-
Wembley 2000 was definitely the low-point in my villa supporting career for sure. Horrible, horrible club and supporters.
-
Let's go for a draw. I detest Chelsea and every arsehole attached to them.
-
Me too. Except for their physio of course
-
I reckon 2-1 Chelsea.
-
Chelsea smell.

If there's one home game I'd like to see us win for the remainder of the season, it's this one. Chelsea are the slimiest turds in football, but I can't see anything other than a jammy, slimy, referee-assisted win for them on Saturday.
-
Would like to win this too, we should never have lost at their ground.
Villa 2 - 2 Chelsea
Gabby & Benteke for us.
-
I would love it, love it, love it if we beat them, but I think they'll edge it 1-2. Benteke 65, Fwank 19, Torres 71
That or 1-1 UTV!
-
0-3
No hope on this one the way they are playing
-
Chipsticks started the thread.....We will thump them, no problem.
I have faith in Chipsticks.

no idea on this result
hard to call
chvski 2-0

How long since fat fwank scored a hat-trick?
We'll it's about time somebody obliged.
Over to you Mr Lambert...

It's my birthday today so Chavski is my birthday game. So I expect a comfortable win and EBJT to get stretchered off again. Any chance we can bring back Hutton for this game to man mark him?

Most likely, yes. He usually plays on the left.

Given Chelsea have a big Champions League game three days after they play us, I wouldn't be surprised if Hazard was rested. Fingers crossed he is!
-
After seeing the Tottenham result I thought oh shit they are flying. But having watched the game, Tottenham handing them two goals on a plate then completely caved in. If Benteke turns up and Weimann gets his shooting boots fixed I can see an edgy 2-1 .........
-
If Lampard plays they'll win. If not, there's a lucky point in it for us.
-
Nobody has said "Happy Birthday" to PWS.
You are all barred.
I have not checked the Birthday thread yet though.
Happy Birthday PWS anyway.
-

Happy Birthday PWS. Hope you've had an enjoyable day
-
Happy birthday PWS. You will get your present on Saturday.
-
we have had a nice rest now so should be nice and fresh in comparison to Chelsea.
the gap in terms of quality between both sides is stark though.
As others have said, Bennett or Luna up against Hazard has car crash written all over it.
Gabby could give Ivanovic problems and Benteke will surely be trying to target Cahill in all physical duels like Carew used to.
3-1 defeat I'm afraid.
-
Torres and A. Hole definitely out, Luiz may make the bench.
No fresh injuries for us, still only Libor, Herd, and N'Zogbia.

I note there is a significant number of non-believers on this this pre-match thread...
-
The PL has the ability to throw up probably more unexpected results than any of the other major leagues in Europe. I don't see why we can't be one of those at the weekend. I know Chelsea are playing really well, but we absolutely can get something out of the game at the weekend. I'm still going for a 2-1 win because we can do it.
-
us 0-1 them
-
West Brom have drawn with them twice, they can't be that good. I've gone for a draw.
-
2-1 Villa. Gabby and Weimann.
-
I fear the worst but hope for the best!
-
0-2 Chelsea.
Hopefully they'll only be in second gear.
-
I fear the worst but hope for the best!
We should sing that to the "We've done it before. We'll do it again" tune ;-)
-
2-1 to us... hard fought draw with last chance saloon tackles all over the place and a quick break and a sublime finish from Gabby set up by Benteke in the 91st minite, adding to the Bacuna equaliser giving us all three points. Terry to have scored their goal despite blatant fouling infront of the Holte end meaing the crowd are right up for it. Chelski go on to win the league but courtesy of us also taking three points at the etihad
Our tv is dominated by disney cartoons at the moment, can you see a theme?
-
0-1 defeat, because they're a better team than us.
Some will think it's because Lambert is the shittest thing ever ever though.
-
Only chance here to get a result is if we score first, can't seem us coming back if Chelsea go into the lead.
Sadly it's likely as of the 14 home games we've played in the league, we've fallen behind in 11 of them. Oh dear.
-
Villa 2 Chelsea 1, Benteke to kick Terry all round the pitch!

Thank you for the welcome, no my fingers are not sensors, however the best way to sensor is to waft the duvet and hold the wife's head under it!
-
Of course Hazard is their main man going forward but I'm more worried about Matic against our midfield. We're gonna need KEA and Westwood to play well, otherwise Matic will just dominate them.
-
3-1 loss

I'm thinking Weimann will play deep and hassle their midfield as he did at Anfield - very effectively. He took Gerrard out of the game.

Just read this in the Meaning Evil:-
Aston Villa look to banish horror Villa Park record
Villa Park will be willing the end of a worst record in the history of top-flight football tomorrow.
Yes, even worse than Diamonds Lights by Tottenham’s Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle, which got to No.12 in the charts in May, 1987.
This particular shocking record dates back to the late 1880s and relates to the slim pickings of success on offer at Villa Park in recent seasons – not that the claret and blue faithful will want or need reminding.
Ahead of the visit of Premier League leaders Chelsea tomorrow teatime, Villa have now gone an alarming 69 home league games without celebrating back-to-back home league wins in the same season. It is the longest barren run of its kind by any team in top-flight history – since records began in 1888 – with Blackpool the next worst offenders of all time with 64 games.
Time to put that right then:-
2-1 Villa
-

Hopefully but I have this horrible feeling Lambert will go with our usual counter-attacking 433. Hope I'm wrong.

He needs to try and find a balance between playing our counter attacking style (which we're good at) and stopping Chelsea playing their normal game. It's a tough call.
-
on the beeb:
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in his news conference: "I don't want to think about a points target. I just want to think that tomorrow we have a very difficult match. Three points would be fabulous result, one point is not a bad result at Villa Park. We go match by match and after that comes Arsenal."
I'd take a point now...

That is a shocking stat. I suppose most other teams who go that long without back to back home wins get relegated so can't keep the run going.
-
3-2 Villa. Benteke x3.
-
2-1 for the Villa, Benteke and Bacuna for Villa and Eto'o for Chelsea.
I don't know why but I have a good feeling about this one, which doesn't mean anything unfortunately considering my past history about feelings on some Villa games !
-
Apparently mourinho has never win at villa park . .
-
Mourinho saying earlier that Bertrand can have a future at Chelsea and he's happy he's getting game time - which means one of two things. Either he's not really in his plans but he wants to get a fair whack for him by suggesting he is, or he actually is part of his plans and Bertrand goes back. Either way, not great news for us.
-
I doubt he has a future at Chelsea. Doesn't mean he's coming here full time but I wouldn't be surprised.
-
Form points to a Chelsea win,but i just have a feeling Villa will get something from this game 1-1
-
Apparently mourinho has never win at villa park . .
oh Matt...look at what you've now gone and done.
And I was looking forward to tomorrow too. I really thought we had a good chance until now.
-
I reckon we might get a point here which of course means that I've jinxed it and we'll get hammered but you know, we live in hope.
1-1.
-
If we get a point from this I will gee delighted, absolutely delighted.
Edited - sorry Legion I've started being barmy already
-
We will stay up regardless of this result.
-

Unless it means neither of those things. Really, if Mourinho referred to me by name I'd go and check my birth certificate to make sure. I wouldn't trust a single thing he says.
2-1 to us. Like others on here I just have an inexplicable sneaky feeling.
-
Got a feeling Gabby is going to run riot 2-1 Gabby - Benteke .........
-
Unfortunately just can't see us getting anything. Chelsea are set up perfectly to play us, strong defensively, quick counters and fat frank is nailed on for a goal at least.
0-2. Aren't I a ray of sunshine...
-
2-1 to Villa. We need to beat those cheating bastards.
-
I'm at ease with this fixture as long as we don't lose heavily. Anything from this match would be great. If not, oh well.
-
The sunshine's brought out the optimist in me, so will go for a home win.
-
The sunshine's brought out the optimist in me, so will go for a home win.
I've got the same feeling I did before the QPR game at VP last season when we won 3-2. Beautiful day that was, not a bad game either.
-
We're not expected to get anything from today but I've got a sneaky feeling we'll get at least a draw. 1-1.
-

Just how I am feeling, we are a mid table side playing one six points clear at the top. Anything we get is a bonus so I am not going to put myself through 90 minutes of angst worrying about it.
-
On the plus side i'm selling on Trinity Road today so I won't have to deal with many away fans. Which is a big plus with that bunch of plastic knobbers.

There are times when I completed agree, however, once the game is going, if we play shit I will be shouting my mouth off and letting them know about it. Just as I'll be shouting praise when a player does something good and words of encouragement for players capable of good stuff but it's not happening for them.
Maybe Bennett will get a game today, which means the very slightest, minimal mistake he makes that will have no bearing on the game, he will get berated by a lot of fans. This shouldn't happen, but it's inevitable, which is a real shame.
I hope for a win and the icing in the cake will be a number of controversial issues going our way and then in the post match chat with PL, PL tells Mourinho he needs to learn not to complain at every decision and that, in time, he'll realise that.

Important game for my 15 year old son.
Leon was planning to go with his Chelsea supporting uncle and sit in the Lower Holte for this match.
Tickets were bought, and everything arranged.
Uncle Sav died playing football a couple of weeks ago but his son, Dominic, will now be taking his place.
Does anyone one know the number I need to text to get a short pre-match announcement made on-screen at Villa Park? I would like to wish them both well today

Legion has already said it's day tripper city round the ground. And a half and half scarf seller just wiped his nose on a scarf. Serves whoever buys it right.
-
I can confirm it really is day tripper hell. Half and half scarf wearing wankers.

Isn't it a coincidence that the smarmy one has started talking about Bertrand in the week we play them.
If that's the only lever you've got for your mindgames, you're backing a loser José.
Really hope we smash these cocky plastic c&%rd. However will settle for a draw with a dodgy penalty 6 minutes into added time that nobody knows how the ref came to more than 2.
Then watch the smuggest man in the world, either prove that he's a giant hypocrite, or boil away inside whilst not being able to bitch too much about it. You know he'll just brazenly bitch without the slightest degree of self-awareness.
Oh and whilst we playing fantasy football. Two really soft red cards for Ivanovic and Terry.
Obnoxious bunch of shits from top to bottom.

I'm at ease with this fixture as long as we don't lose heavily. Anything from this match would be great. If not, oh well.
Just how I am feeling, we are a mid table side playing one six points clear at the top. Anything we get is a bonus so I am not going to put myself through 90 minutes of angst worrying about it.
With the other results going as hoped right now, anything today is a massive bonus. I'd like to see a committed performance and one where we show we are out to win. If after that we don't well so be it. Chelsea are a top side, but we can win today. Sit back relax and hope for the very best.

Nothing to lose today - i fancy a 1-1 draw.

Go for it Villa and give these plastic wankers a right good game, will Roman invade if we beat them Russian bastard
-
I don't think we'll win but I'm hoping against hope
is that some weird mental condition ...or just being a Villa fan?
-
Just don't let anything happen which could have an impact on us beyond today, ie a hefty score line

Or just being a fan of anyone other than the plastic twosome or Manure.
