Title: Aston Villa vs Chelsea Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Chipsticks on March 10, 2014, 02:15:43 PM
Sat March 15th, 17:30 KO

Nobody's done one yet and it's drawing near.

So the Mourinho media band-wagon comes to Villa Park once more, historically we're their bogey team with him in charge. I don't know if it's the suddent spurt of nice weather, but I'm feeling food good about this.

Villa to win 2-1. Benteke and Vlaar to score.

I dislike this bunch of M4 M3 Corridor mixture of Chavs, Thugs and Low Life more than just about any bunch of supporters. John Terry is their hero, says it all. I would love it, love it if we beat them and punctured their Title challenge.

No the money paid from Stalins mate makes them too strong for us sadly.

Assuming Bertrand is loan-tied, it'll be interesting to see who plays out of Luna and Bennett. I'd personally go for Tony Moon but Bennett got some game time against Newcastle so I'm assuming he's Lambert's pick.

I might be tempted to go 3-5-2, Clark coming in at the back alongside Vlaar and Baker. Push Bacuna into a wide midfield role on the right. Not sure I trust either Bennett or Luna as a traditional LB. Might even be temped to give Tonex another go down the left. Betrand missing will be a blow.

I would consider giving Tonev a go on the swings and slides by Trinity Road while the game is on. Maybe give him a ball and see if he can kick it over the Holte End.

The sort of game where we'll probably play quite well, have some chances and they'll then go from first to second gear and probably score either side of half time.

Then they'll give us a load of the ball and it will finish 2-0.

Think I also agree with five at the back, flip a coin between Luna and Bennett.

Birmingham City winning the Champions League would bother me less than this bunch of lottery winning chavs and Lovejoys winning a corner.  I grew up in prime Chelsea territory and spent my youth taking the piss out of Chelsea fans and former players like Ron Chopper Harris who ran a sweet shop near home because never forget, they were shit, I mean proper shit and then along came Abramovich with his dirty money and bought them everything they've got.  I can't wait for the day it all goes tits up for them.

Post by: peter w on March 10, 2014, 08:51:08 PM
I think it's a nailed on defeat. The way this Chelsea team are set up makes it difficult for us to be able to break them down. We need a game and a tempo to be more upbeat for us to play well and look dangerous. Cheslea are a counter to that type of team and play at a slower tempo that suits them. So, for me it's about how we approach the game knowing how Chelsea will be tactically set up. Do that and play well and occasionally, and more, look threatening then we can keep the spirits up within the camp ahead of more 'important' games coming up.

Wouldn't you just love to win this 1-0 with a dodgy penalty, ideally with that tosspot John Terry getting sent off and getting a lifetime ban from the offence...or just for being John Terry.

When I think back to the last 5 years and the bad decisions that have gone against us, so many tend to be against Chelsea, we rarely seem to get a decision against them.

Everything went against us at Stamford Bridge this season, you had the Benteke red last season, the cup semi when Gabby was hauled down at 0-0 in the box and even in the same season at VP he was through on goal, hacked down and the ref just waved play on. We did actually win that game 2-1 in the end.

I'd love it and be interesting to see how Mourinho's respect the ref campaign would play out on his favourite away ground (think VP is the only prem ground he's visited more than once he's yet to win on).

Being realistic though, can't see much past a comfortable 2-0 Chelsea win.

We're completely unpredictable and we have shown we are capable of playing with the big teams and giving a really good account of ourselves. We've also shown we can look about as dire as the worst teams in the division. I'm going for a cheeky 2-1, and a backs to the wall last 15 minutes with Vlaar and Guzan putting in monster defensive displays to help us see out the game.

They get a dodgy first half goal that bounces off Guzan and on to a defender and into goal. Just as the half time whistle is about to go, Benteke pops up with smart shot on the turn in off the post. After an hour said Benteke does a forearm smash into Ivanovic's face and the ref is the only person in the stadium not to see it. Benteke then heads the winner in the last few minutes from a free kick that isn't even a free kick and Chelsea fans phone in all night moaning about how CB shouldn't have even been on the pitch. Sound familiar?

Our best performance of the season was against these feckers in August. If we play anywhere close to that we won't lose. We're mostly crap these days though and we have two complete liabilities waiting in the wings to play at left back.

Sad to say Mourinho's Villa Park curse to be lifted at last.

Can't see anything other than a defeat unfortunately especially with Bennett or Luna filling in for Bertrand. Norwich showed how easy it is to open up our defence with short quick passing and the likes of Hazard and Oscar will find it easy. 3-1 to them and me moaning on the post match thread about how they can't even pronounce their name (Chehwsea ffs)

A game that could go any way really. We've a reasonable record against Chelsea. I don't read too much into our record vs Mourinho at VP, not least because the last time we played his Chelsea at Villa, we had a squad better in all but two positions. Our midfield in particular was just a million miles better than what it is now.

That said I think it'll be tight. We'll frustrate them. A point would be great, a win would be fantastic (particularly given it's against those bastards). A defeat wouldn't be surprising. Hopefully it won't effect our confidence too much going into more winnable matches.

I still fancy a point though.

1-1 Benteke.

And I second that. If I could have just one non Villa related wish in football, it would be for this bunch of classless twats to be relegated and go bankrupt all at the same time. To say I absolutely loathe them is the politest way I can describe it on here. I can't even go to matches against them for fear I might actually boil over and deck one of them - which I nearly did after the FA Cup semi final on the tube back from Wembley

I have not checked the Birthday thread yet though.

It's my birthday today so Chavski is my birthday game. So I expect a comfortable win and EBJT to get stretchered off again. Any chance we can bring back Hutton for this game to man mark him?

Happy Birthday PWS. Hope you've had an enjoyable day

we have had a nice rest now so should be nice and fresh in comparison to Chelsea.

the gap in terms of quality between both sides is stark though.

As others have said, Bennett or Luna up against Hazard has car crash written all over it.

Gabby could give Ivanovic problems and Benteke will surely be trying to target Cahill in all physical duels like Carew used to.

3-1 defeat I'm afraid.

No fresh injuries for us, still only Libor, Herd, and N'Zogbia.

The PL has the ability to throw up probably more unexpected results than any of the other major leagues in Europe. I don't see why we can't be one of those at the weekend. I know Chelsea are playing really well, but we absolutely can get something out of the game at the weekend. I'm still going for a 2-1 win because we can do it.

2-1 to us... hard fought draw with last chance saloon tackles all over the place and a quick break and a sublime finish from Gabby set up by Benteke in the 91st minite, adding to the Bacuna equaliser giving us all three points.  Terry to have scored their goal despite blatant fouling infront of the Holte end meaing the crowd are right up for it.  Chelski go on to win the league but courtesy of us also taking three points at the etihad

Only chance here to get a result is if we score first, can't seem us coming back if Chelsea go into the lead.

Sadly it's likely as of the 14 home games we've played in the league, we've fallen behind in 11 of them. Oh dear.

I'm thinking Weimann will play deep and hassle their midfield as he did at Anfield - very effectively. He took Gerrard out of the game.

Just read this in the Meaning Evil:-

Aston Villa look to banish horror Villa Park record

Villa Park will be willing the end of a worst record in the history of top-flight football tomorrow.

Yes, even worse than Diamonds Lights by Tottenham’s Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle, which got to No.12 in the charts in May, 1987.

This particular shocking record dates back to the late 1880s and relates to the slim pickings of success on offer at Villa Park in recent seasons – not that the claret and blue faithful will want or need reminding.

Ahead of the visit of Premier League leaders Chelsea tomorrow teatime, Villa have now gone an alarming 69 home league games without celebrating back-to-back home league wins in the same season. It is the longest barren run of its kind by any team in top-flight history – since records began in 1888 – with Blackpool the next worst offenders of all time with 64 games.

Time to put that right then:-

2-1 Villa

He needs to try and find a balance between playing our counter attacking style (which we're good at) and stopping Chelsea playing their normal game. It's a tough call.

on the beeb:
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in his news conference: "I don't want to think about a points target. I just want to think that tomorrow we have a very difficult match. Three points would be fabulous result, one point is not a bad result at Villa Park. We go match by match and after that comes Arsenal."

I'd take a point now...

Mourinho saying earlier that Bertrand can have a future at Chelsea and he's happy he's getting game time - which means one of two things. Either he's not really in his plans but he wants to get a fair whack for him by suggesting he is, or he actually is part of his plans and Bertrand goes back. Either way, not great news for us.

There are times when I completed agree, however, once the game is going, if we play shit I will be shouting my mouth off and letting them know about it. Just as I'll be shouting praise when a player does something good and words of encouragement for players capable of good stuff but it's not happening for them.

Maybe Bennett will get a game today, which means the very slightest, minimal mistake he makes that will have no bearing on the game, he will get berated by a lot of fans. This shouldn't happen, but it's inevitable, which is a real shame.

I hope for a win and the icing in the cake will be a number of controversial issues going our way and then in the post match chat with PL, PL tells Mourinho he needs to learn not to complain at every decision and that, in time, he'll realise that.

Important game for my 15 year old son.

Leon was planning to go with his Chelsea supporting uncle and sit in the Lower Holte for this match.

Tickets were bought, and everything arranged.

Uncle Sav died playing football a couple of weeks ago but his son, Dominic, will now be taking his place.

Does anyone one know the number I need to text to get a short pre-match announcement made on-screen at Villa Park? I would like to wish them both well today

Isn't it a coincidence that the smarmy one has started talking about Bertrand in the week we play them.

If that's the only lever you've got for your mindgames, you're backing a loser José.

Really hope we smash these cocky plastic c&%rd. However will settle for a draw with a dodgy penalty 6 minutes into added time that nobody knows how the ref came to more than 2.

Then watch the smuggest man in the world, either prove that he's a giant hypocrite, or boil away inside whilst not being able to bitch too much about it.  You know he'll just brazenly bitch without the slightest degree of self-awareness.

Oh and whilst we playing fantasy football. Two really soft red cards for Ivanovic and Terry.

Obnoxious bunch of shits from top to bottom.
