As usual when there is no game, boredom kicks in a bit. So, what merchandise do you have that is maybe a bit out of the ordinary, or means a lot to you etc?
I'll start with these that I bought the other day. Just thought they were a bit different to add to the Villa collection.

One of my faves, a signed 'liberated' from outside the Holte on last stand day. I took about 6 down as I was on some random blokes shoulders outside the ground while the match was still on. Wish i'd kept more than one but I kept giving them away as I took them down. Just kept one for me and one for shoulders bloke. And then back into the ground for the last minutes.

No photos unfortunately, but i have last seasons home shirt signed by all the players, countless signed Villa caps and a pair of Villa issue Nike Air Structure Triax trainers from BMH.

I have loads of stuff I bought off Richard Whitehead. Quite a lot of lovely framed prints from the very early years.
-
European cup winning team autograph picture. The one that is about 3 feet tall!
Looks great in our hall and always gets good comments from visitors
-
My Villa Park painting from 1990.
Four Ever Aston Villa League Cup DVD
Dean Saunders signed photo print.
My vhs collection, I cant watch them anymore unless I get to transfer them to dvd but I am not letting them go just yet. Thankfully every goal is on the 1000 goals DVD which I heartily recommend.
Non-Villa I have lots of sticker books - Panini 81 (title season), Panini 90, Merlin 94, 95 and 96.
-
We need some pictures so as I can ooooh, ahhhhh and Paul McGrath at stuff. Plus know whose houses to rob.
I also have a shirt singed by Tayls, and another by Fat Baz. A programme from the Tony Barton testimonial match I got signed by Ron Saunders during the match. And the Brian Little book, Return of the Little Villain is signed by Brian.
-
Man utd home and away programmes from the league cup semi when we was in the third div.
Santos home game
Spurs league cup final
Bournemouth home game in 3rd div
Signed match ball by Stan petrov
European semi andefrlecht home and away
European cup final
I could go on for ever and ever

I reckon this is pretty unique in the novelty tat stakes, a mate bought it me when he was in the Czech Republic, not surprisingly the main doll is Baros. The rest are Angel, Sorensen, Mellberg and Barry.

I've got a vinyl album 33 rpm of the 82 euro cup campaign
-
I still have the Villa scarf I wore whilst watching the 1957 Cup Final on a tiny black and white TV. And my Chix Bubble Gum card of Peter McParland from the same year which my dad got him to sign!

I have two lovely and rather rare prize possessions
'The Story of Aston Villa' written in 1947 by Norman Edwards which is a cartoon history of the Villa and similarly 'Aston Villa's Cup History' which is a similar cartoon history written by Norman in 1957 after we last won the cup. Handed down through my family. Also got a teddy bear from 81 with a 'Kings of the League, Aston Villa' patch on it and a money box circa about 1975 with the old Villa crest. Plus a tie from 57 - claret with just a pale blue lion on it.
-
I still have my 57 scarf knitted by my mom. It was of shawl proportions when she made it for me to wear at Wembley but over the years it has become at least eight feet long and four inches wide from being trailed behind cars. If my house was on fire it would be the only thing I would save with the exception on my magic plastic Villa key ring figure about an inch high and long since detached from a key ring. I was on holiday in Cromer sitting on a bench on the sea front and I saw my magic figurine lying under the bench. You can just make out the Villa colours it is so old and worn. But the minute I picked it up I knew it was really powerful medicine. Within seconds of holding it my phone beeped and it was my son Lucas sending me a two word message - "O'Leary Gone"
-
I've got a shirt signed by Johnny Dixon and Colin Gibson. They were both outside Wembley before the 2000 Cup Final.

I bought a set in Prague the day of the 7-1 at Cheski. I thought we would never fair that badly at the bridge for years to come.
It's Carew,Young, Gabi, Milner and someone else.
They look blood great though.
-
I have all the Villa programmes to every game I have been to, including the first one which was signed by John Gidman.
I also have two signed birthday cards - one by Peter Withe and one by Ron Saunders (PW visited me in hospital on my 16th Birthday with lots of Villa goodies!)
Not Villa but a prized possession - my Grandfather's England youth cap from 1926- he was playing for Tamworth Castle at the time.
-
There's a pub-style mirror with the old Villa crest on and a list of the club's honours at my Dad's house. You can place it to between 1977 and 1981 based on the honours listed. I think they used to have it in the downstairs bog. Anyway, I love it and fully intend to claim as an inheritance.

I had one of those but sadly it broke , I have been looking to replace it but whenever they come up on ebay they attract a lot of bidders and are hard to get.
-
Is this the mirror? Best picture I could do with my phone. My folks bought me and my sister one when they came out, mine is rather worn on the frame from various house moves etc.
They also got us round mirrors, from the 80s I think, that looked great. Sadly mine got broken in a move years ago.
-
I want one of those.
-
I've got a vinyl album 33 rpm of the 82 euro cup campaign
Is that the BBC Radio WM one? I've got that. I also have Dave Ismay's We're The Holte End/A.S.T.O.N. V.I.L.L.A. on blue vinyl with the claret label. My most cherished possession is my Villa travellers club pennant from the coach trip to Rotterdam.

A lump of the Holte on show with plaque at home
An LP of the commentry from Everton LC final replay at Old Trafford - not seen one since i got it in the 80's
Weer going up - single

I have a framed away shirt from BFR's first season. My girlfriend at the time arranged to meet Paul McGrath at the training ground to get all the players to sign it for my 21st birthday.

I've been after the replica stadium for ages now. Last time I got outbid on e-Bay in the last minute. It went for about £30-ish.
-
This is my replica Villa Park, it's a bit dusty! The two pieces of stone are bits of the Holte I dug out on last stand day.

I've got that as well. The plate on the front of the wooden mount shows the dates of the Trinity being built and being knocked down. My sister had it done for me.
Also got a load of Terry Weir original photos framed on the wall

I found a few packs of Terry's photos the other day. He was often on the coach we went to aways with in the late 70s and my dad new him quite well so probably bought them direct off him. Some of them are superb.
-
just a few things I have:
Prized possession - 80/81 League Champions signed shirt
Tat - a red and black striped Henson goalkeepers shirt (got it from my Nan for Xmas...she thought I was 12 years old, I was in fact 21/22 !)
Villa memorabilla - a medal from the 1996 League cup final

I got in touch with him after he took a couple of photos of me and another H&V poster at a forum for Nigel Spink's testimonial in 1988. One of us with Allan Evans and Andy Gray and one with Spink and SGT. He sent me some large copies of them straight away and wouldn't accept any money for them.
-
Used to have a clump of turf from Highbury.
-
I have a cup final medallion from the Chelsea game in 2000 but can't bear to look at it as it makes me sad :(

Although I was only a nipper, I remember him being a lovely bloke. He really was a top fella. Just found out the packs, one pack is the Villa goals from THAT Liverpool game, the other pack is random Villa stuff, all have the Terry Weir embossed stamp thing on them. Can't think of the correct term for the stamps.
If any one is sad enough to want to see them i'll take pics of some of them.
-
Somewhere I have a framed photo of myself holding the European Cup. Taken during a session at VP in summer 1982- cost £5 if I remember rightly

I have one with the fa cup - sadly not from our triumph but I was walking past the transport museum in 87 and saw the cup was on display and pics were £5 so I could not resist getting my hands on it :)
Regarding terry weir , there was something comforting seeing him run around to the other end at half time - please post your pics of his pws.

Classic example of utter tat becoming a prized possession. My mom used to buy me all sorts of Villa tat she saw at car boots etc, and this one of the last things she bought me shortly before she passed away.

I have also been meaning to frame my Mellberg shirt with the ticket, photo's and programme from that lovely sunshiney day...now if I could get it signed.....

This is something i'd be interested if anyone knew anything about. It was my dad's and I reckon is from the 70s(ish) simply based on I can't remember not having it. Anyone know what it is?

Royal Antwerp UEFA away programme from 75-76 season. I believe these are rare? We got stuffed 4-1 in that game - we were 4-0 down at Half-Time, then Ray Graydon scored a second-half consolation goal. I think we lost the home game as well 0-1. So, not a great start to our European campaign!

I have 100s of programmes from about 1970 onwards in the shed - not looked at them in years and sold 2 of them a while ago - the European final signed by spinky which went for £35 and the Toyota world club final which was rare apparently and went for £90 .
One day I will sell them all as a job lot as they take up too much space.

First pack of Terry's photo's. excuse my shite phone camera quality pics. I'll do the other pack later.

The Ty-Phoo Villa picture from 1966 (ish). By the time I'd collected all the stuff off the packets this was a little out of date. Queued outside VP on a training day and got Charlie Aitken, Keith Bradley, Colin Withers, Dave Pountney, Alan Deakin, Lew Chatterley, Johnny McLeod and Bill Baxter (coach) and Mickey Wright (neither pictured).
I suspect Tony Hateley had left by the time I got this, because there's no way I'd have left the place without his scribble on it.

I know the game you mean, i think. Villa played in that white kit and Phillips, Little and Leonard scored ?
There seemed to be some confusion after the match when Villa fans were leaving the ground. Sure, Villa had won and got the two points for winning as it was then. Had Villa overtaken Man Utd at the top of the division ? Had Villa won the League ? Thousands of expectant Villa fans rushed back into the ground to celebrate, only to find out that nothing had really happened.
On the coach back home out of Blackpool, the traffic was very slow. Less than a mile from the ground we passed Blackpool goalie John Burridge walking away from the match with his girlfriend/wife.
I also recall Villa fans having a game of footy on Blackpool beach before the match. It looked like about 2,000 a side.
One of my favourite ever away games.

I have a ginger beer bottle from the Aston Pleasure Grounds before Villa Park was built on it!

Met Sir Brian Last year and he autographed that picture for me and yes it was Bristol City.:-)

A copy of the Turkish DAILY football news I bought in Istanbul the morning after we beat Fenebache 2-0 in the UEFA Cup in 1977. The two first pages of the colour broadsheet are devoted to the match! This in the days when UK daily papers had four pages at the back for all sports!
My home made banners for Wembley '75 and '77.

Followed the instructions from the tech section but pasting the link hasn't produced a picture.

In the PWS pictures titled "First batch from other pack" who is the Villa player turning away from goal as Andy celebrates in front of the Holte? Looks like Bruce Rioch but surely he had gone by the time Andy arrived.

For Fast56, you need to use the direct link.

Dennis Mortimer.

Thanks. Short hair got me.
-
Last year good friends gave me a copy of the Villa News and Record from 21/23 August 1954 - the first "proper" Villa game played after I was born and with my cousin, Frank Moss Jr, playing centre half against Spuds. (also in the Villa team that day - Harry Parkes, Danny Blanchflower, Johnny Dixon and Peter McParland).
Total surprise, and they had no idea about the Moss family connection!

Yes. It is Mortimer.
Must be against Everton because that's Mick Lyons.
All of the Upper North Stand seats had not quite been installed yet it seems.

got a villa v oxford programme from 1973 signed by Pongo Waring who was sitting in the old trinity road stand.

I haven't played that Villa record in years. If I remember correctly it also has some interviews with the players which I think were done at the civic reception.
-
I have a centenary mug as well. It survived everyday use in an office full of Wolves supporters for about 10 years, but is now retired, looking a little bit frayed around the edges. A bit like me I suppose.
-
Damo, I havent played it in years either, I think you're right though.
A Chelsea supporting mate always admires it when he sees it, even he thinks it's a classy bit of memorabilia.

Terrible photo but this on my office wall:
One of my business partners is an Arsenal fan. I occasionally amuse myself by pointing at the picture and then mentioning that he probably won't recognise that thing being hoisted aloft, and offer to explain what it is.
-
I have got a fantastic picture on my living room wall. Black and white one of the '57 team, manager and trophy. It looks like it is taken at a training ground in front of the changing rooms. I cannot for the life of me remember where or when I got it. I suspect someone gave it to me when I was too young to appreciate it.

I've got one of them.

Is this the mirror? Best picture I could do with my phone. My folks bought me and my sister one when they came out, mine is rather worn on the frame from various house moves etc.
They also got us round mirrors, from the 80s I think, that looked great. Sadly mine got broken in a move years ago.
I had a round one, just the old badge, is that the one you mean? Was a present, probably about 1977 or so. I don't know whatever happened to mine.
-
LP of the 1971 League Cup Final.
One of only a few recordings of any sort that you can hear a big Villa crowd singing 'Andy, Andy Lochhead in the air'.

Sounds like the one. The lion rampant was in the middle of the mirror.

Two more signatures needed then it can be framed.

Classic example of utter tat becoming a prized possession. My mom used to buy me all sorts of Villa tat she saw at car boots etc, and this one of the last things she bought me shortly before she passed away.

Those are from the 90's aren't they? Sure I had one as a child. Not a Villa one.
-
my first football strip, aged bout 4-5, with Ray graydons number on it, and a few years back, now with his signature on it. I would post a pic, but dont have a photo bucket o similar account. doesn't fit anymore

Got a scarf my mom used to wear on the Holte. 'Chico' stitched into it.
That's about it I think.

Got a few originals like that, my pop was pals with the photographer. They've all got details (dates, location, game, position on paper page etc) on the back.

Great thread, thanks to all those who posted pictures.

Slight aside but who was the little fat physio we had at the club late 70's ? Was it Jim Williams ? Like a little munchkin .
-
We used to sing 'Jimmy, Jimmy' as he ran round with his bag.
-
PWS- Those pictures really cheered me up- thanks.

I've got a Terry Wier photo similar to below but signed by all.

The Villa player in the middle row, three in from the left was having his driving lessons after my mother and got me the photo of arguably the greatest every Aston Villa team. I assume you all know who he is.
-
Most prized would be some of the stuff Brian Godfrey got for me including a signed away shirt. He also got my "History of Aston Villa" book signed by around 40 players during a club night - I was always so appreciative of him doing that.
I was sorting out all my old shirts and other bits in the garage last weekend - the memories it brought back were quite incredible. Items I hadn't seen in years, everything has a story and reminded me of friends past and present who I'd been to games with.
I was in there for hours and it was stark reminder what an amzing time I've had supporting this wonderful football club.
-
For our wedding, my wife got me this T-shirt, signed by Sid, my favourite ever Villa player. It sits by my desk at home now and I absolutely love it. Sid was, as you'd expect, a total gent to my then fiancee when she sent it to him, via the club, and couldn't have been more helpful.

Purchased in Prague a few years ago. Glad I went back to the hotel for a snooze after buying instead of going to the pub to watch the Villa game. We lost 7-1 at Stamford Bridge. That would have ruined the holiday.

i have that too Damo. My mum and dad got it from an antiques fair. The glass smashed on it and the picture is really faded as it wasn't photo quality paper, but I know the one you're talking about. I don't recognise the location, but I always thought it looked like it was taken in bourneville due to the building in the background. Would be interested to know where it was taken if anyone knows.

It could well be Bournville as that's where they trained the week before the final.

Gervilla
I also saw those in Prague, and not sure why I did not buy.
Plenty old stuff, one day will look at programs, but in essence most Home and many always from 68 to 89 many prior to that including 57 cup final.
Blues Villa from 49.
probably my best (apart from a photo of my late dad and brother holding European cup) is a button hole badge of a Villa player that I got from my great granddad.
Going by his age and the kit on the badge, I would guess late 40,s early 50,s

I was part of that 2000 a side game on the beach absolutely magical.
My memento is my original share certificate my grandad bought for me then on my 16th birthday transferred it into my name in 1976.
Also my chance meeting with randy Lerner in London (posted under Perry-Barr-pet) chatted away for at least 25 minutes like two best mates about the best club in the world.
Also folks carlsberg don't do birthday and Father's Day prezzies but if they did.
Row 24 seat 148 upper Holte season ticket from my kids

Hope you behave yourself, that's the row in front of me. The rest of the row is occupied by tourists for the "big games"
