With the players they have out I actually quite fancy us to get something, though on the other hand we'll probably get the backlash from their loss to Liverpool.

1-1

Benteke and Barry, just for fun.

They lost one home game all 2013 long - against feckin' Sunderland as the year faded. We should have done them this time last year, would settle for another 3-3, would prefer another 4-3.

I'm tempted to say 2-1 Everton but you have to think Lukaku being out is a massive blow for them No idea how good this Traore bloke is and mirallas and Naismith are better out wide. Distin still being out would be a plus. One concern would be their midfield, they had the measure of us at VP once they went 1 up so we really need to score the first goal on Saturday.

Pluses are we always seem to play amazing on Merseyside these days and we haven't lost at Goodison since March 2006 which is incredible, certainly a good ground for us.

1-1.

Coleman, Distin and Lukaku out for them, Benteke getting back to his best, Villa arriving at Goodison on the back of a derby win while Everton do so on the back of a derby hiding. Gotta be 2-1 to the Villa boys.

Quote from: official site

Gabby Agbonlahor remains touch and go for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash against Everton.

Agbonlahor missed the epic 4-3 victory over West Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion with a foot injury.

And the striker is still recovering from the problem which was caused when he collided with an advertisting board in Villa's clash at Liverpool 12 days ago.

Manager Paul Lambert will assess Agbonlahor's fitness tomorrow but he hinted that the trip to Goodison Park may come too soon for the 27-year-old.

"He's still got that foot problem at the minute but he is doing well," said the Villa boss.

"Whether this one is too early for him I don't know, but he is doing really well."

Lambert admits the rollercoaster encounter against the Baggies was an energy-sapping experience for his players.

But he expects them to be fully recharged in time for the clash against Roberto Martinez's team this weekend.

"It would have been draining last night, especially with the weather," added Lambert.

"It was constant rain and then there was the atmosphere and the way the game was going - 2-0, then 2-2, 3-2, then 3-3, and then you've got to go again.

"There were a lot of tired bodies this morning. But they'll come in on Friday and then we'll go up there and give it a go.

"Most of them came in just tired but they'll be ok tomorrow."

Such a difficult game to call, they've got players out (Lukaku, Coleman, Distin) as mentioned, along with Oviedo and maybe one or two others, they've also just been spanked in the big derby whilst we're off the back of a win in a derby-ish.

However, this is Everton at home, they lost once in the whole of 2013 and that was with 10-men. They're a top 6/7 side and will be favourites with most people.

Then again the Villa are in town, 8 years since a defeat there, 2 Villa wins 5 draws, very impressive. Not to mention how well we travel as opposed to playing at home.

2-1 either way would not surprised me one bit, but I'll go with 2-2 which would be a very good result.

Them 2 - 3 Us

They will attack us relentlessly from the kickoff, our defence will hold for the first 15 minutes then the cave-in.  But eventually our famed counter-attacking will seize the day.

Lucana Traore & Baines for them.  A hat-trick from Benteke, the Beast is really back!

We will lose to Everton, because they are a good team and we will be on the come-down from Wednesday night. Our only hope is that Everton's injuries do bring them down a few notches. But, it does not matter at all, because the important thing is to go on and defeat West Ham & Norwich and get something out of Cardiff.

Why will our mid-week match be more significant than the humping they took at Anfield?

They are there for the taking. Injuries, on a wobble, playing poorly, a ground where we have an excellent record of picking up results.

One thing that's held us back this season (other than our home form) is not building on good results. We go to Sunderland and get a good win, only to lose to Sheffield United a few days later. Tomorrow's another chance to build on the last few decent results and a point would be fine but with the amount of players they have out, we can beat them.

The only thing I am certain of is that the view will be terrible as normal.

Everton fans blotted their copybook with me forever when I was stood outside Goodison waiting to get into the ground and I overheard two of their fans bemoaning the fact that the Villa team was "full of n*****s." This was the first game of the season late in the BFR era if I remember rightly.

2-2 draw opening day probably, Fashanu scored on his debut and Deano got the other. At that stage in 1994 I think Daniel Amokachi, their summer signing, was the first black player they ever fielded. Earl Barrett must have been no 2, they got him from us at the end of that campaign.

Title: Re: Everton v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Dribbler on January 31, 2014, 06:31:18 PM
Everton  like to play with their full-backs (Baines/Coleman) in a very attacking role, overlapping down the flanks and even getting them in the box to support the attack, so as others have said this leaves a lot of potential space to get in behind them. In the Liverpool - Everton derby during the week Liverpool really exploited this, played the counter attacking game, and it paid off. Hopefully then Martinez will play a similar style tomorrow as this would really suit us. Would like to think we can at least get a draw out of this.

If Gabby isn't playing I would like to see Albrighton start to give us that counter attacking pace, if we can catch their fullbacks out of position and pressed high up the field we can exploit that space in behind down the wings, so while i expect any break by us would still involve a hoof up the middle of the park to Benteke, we really need someone running on into the space either side to pick up the flick ons.

God, can they whinge. No one has a bigger 'victim mentality' at home if decisions start going against them. Two free kicks in the opposition's favour is usually enough to get them going with the ironic cheers etc when they then get a decision

If Villa push up like they did at Anfield I think we will win this. They have no outlet with Lukuku out and no real goal scorers in the team. We will have Benteke-Weimann and if Gabby makes it to totally exploit them ..... 0-3 Benteke-Wemann-Holt comes on to open his account !!!

I don't think Gabby will make it. Matt Kendrik said yesterday that Gabby had only just started to walk without pain, so it'll be a while yet before he comes back.

The everton fan at work tells me they have a lot of injuries and he is worried about this one. I'm going for 1-1.

Romelu Lukaku (ankle) and Lacina Traore (hamstring) and Gerard Deulofeu (hamstring) are all out.

Everton Last Five: LWDWW

Think they have conveniently forgot to add the Liverpool defeat along with Distin-Coleman-Gibson-Oviedo-Kone all injured !!
