I didn't think we would get a battered against Arsenal and we didn't despite much doom and gloom.

Can't make the same case about this one, can see Liverpool winning this 4-1.

We either get a shock result at Anfield or a battering, little inbetween on that ground for us.

I'm afraid to say that I can see Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho tearing us apart at the back. Let's just hope we can do the same to their fragile defensive line.

If any old poster is to start a match thread I expect to see a proper thread title with capital letters and the name Aston Villa, not just Villa. Furthermore I do not give a shit what people are fucking tweeting.

I started one a couple of weeks ago and i just put Villa. It was soon corrected though. My bad (as the kids say).

Oh and agree on your second point.

ManU game aside I've predicted us to win or draw every game so far this season, because I am an eternal optimist and I think we've been playing well below our true capabilities since probably the Newcastle game.

That said, I think this one will be:

Liverpool 3 (Buck Toothed Racist Footballing Marvel)
Villa 1 (Tiny Eared Belgian Collossus)

Doesn't it just.

Very well written stuff, and as well as some truly shocking statistics regarding us, a very good interpretation of them.

I hope we don't go on playing like this for much longer.

It's eye-wateringly horrible to watch, I don't care if it works well enough to keep us mid table, we'll be well on the way to becoming the new Stoke if it goes on the rest of the season.

We'll start off like we finished the Arsenal game, then Delph will tackle little stevie G by the
halfway line & he'll score from the resultant penalty(well it is anfield) Rat face will fluke 1 then
Sturrridge will score a worldy.

I have a feeling both Benteke and Holt will start up front tomorrow.

Lowton and Bertrand need to be given licence to get forward, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a mish-mash 4-3-3, with Gabby on one flank and three central of Bacuna, Westwood and Delph.

Bacua having more freedom than the other two. Might as well give it a go.

I think there will be goals in this game!

Hardly an insightful prediction i know, but i think as much as Liverpool will have the majority of possession and Suarez will get a few goals against us they will be open to the counter attack. I don't think we'll have many chances but if we can take them we might be able to get a draw.

Sadly I can't see us winning two on the bounce at Anfield. Their home form has been top notch this season and with their front line I can't see us getting anything from it. But who knows, the wheels might start coming off for them at some point. Hopefully tomorrow.

Friend from home who works for Standard & Chartered offered me and a couple of other Villa fans tickets in the directors' box for this game last season. I turned it down - partly because I thought we'd get tonked but mainly because watching from a directors' box doesn't really appeal. Again, think we'll get tonked but, again, hope I'm wrong.

The lads who did go sat with Ian Rush and said he was the dullest man they'd ever met.

It is hard to guess the team. Last season's win caused the 4231 discovery. Guzan - Lowton, Clark, Baker, Lichaj - Westwood, Herd - Andi, Holman, Bannan - Benteke. If Lambo was logical... Guzan - Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bertrand - Westwood, Delph - Bacuna, Weimann, Gabby - Benteke.

Didn't Herd play as part of the back five in this game?

Aside from their forwards, Liverpool are pretty ordinary. Henderson is getting good reviews but he is an athlete really not much of a footballer while Gerrard is a shadow of the player he was. Lucas too hasnt been the same since injury a couple of years ago. I watched Everton outplay them a while back particularly in midfield. They were able to get at their back four very easily and Lukaku's physical power was too much for them.

What worries me is that Lambert will see that and go for Benteke and Holt up top and try to physically batter them. Ideally we would play more mobile players in midfield than Gerrard and Lucas and get at them that way. Gabby might get some joy from Johnson on the left, both players are notoriously inconsistent but if Gabby got on top there we might have a chance.

at the other end of the field, bertrand in is a plus though this is a very tough first game for him. honestly think there is a very good chance of one of our defenders getting a red card tomorrow. Both Lowton and Clark have niggly streaks in them and no recovery pace which could be a recipe for disaster. Vlaar too looked to be blowing out his arse towards the end of the Arsenal game so would wonder how fit he is. Have a feeling we will be humiliated to be honest. 6-2 or a crazy score like that. we wont be able to control their forwards and their movement.

guzan
lowton, vlaar, clark, bertrand
albrighton, bacuna, westwood, delph, gabby
benteke

maybe give sylla a chance during the game

Hannibal Lecter (3).  I have him as captain of my fantasy team.

Benteke & Vlaar.  Oh, these two players too.

Another result like last year would be superb. I've got a sneaky feeling Holt will score.

See you all up there (whoever's going that is).

The addition of holt and Bertrand have brought a feeling of optimism this week , I originally thought we could be in for a heavy beating but who knows .....

I reckon it'll be:

Guzan

Lowton
Plastic
Vlaar
Clark

Delph
El-Ahmadi
Westwood

Benteke
Agbonlahor

Would like to see Bacuna in midfield but doubt it.

3-2 the Villa.

This game is made for Grant to come off the bench and grab a late winner.

C'mon you Villa boys!

Good analysis of us from a Liverpool website.

http://www.thisisanfield.com/2014/01/opposition-analysis-aston-villa/

I really wish I hadn't read it. Can't really fault it which is the problem. The truth hurts.

I don't mind people saying we're shit when it's backed up with acute observations, statistics and a good chunk of evidence.
I think he's called it spot on.  I'd love to see a similar analysis of spring last year as I remembered us a team which hustled and always put pressure on the ball.  Okay it didn't always work but it was good to watch.

Firstly Christian Benteke 4/1 just to score a goal anytime !! is what i am sayin.
3 goals in 3 apps !
Granted Liverpool have a lot of fire power but Suarez and Sturridge have to get use to playing again and we can not only frsutarte but be dangerous on break.

The on loan signings have given me some optimism so i like to think it has been psoitive for the villa team !! Gabby and Benteke are a handful against liverpool who are error prone and not kept many clean sheets.
1-1 or 2-2

Holt can come on and bully defence and i would actually start Bertrand on left side. supporting Luna at left back.  delph and westwood with bacuna tucked in with Gabby wide right and Big ben up top.

Sterling will add the width to pools game as wil suarez and sturridge who will drift out to flanks. Hederson and Gerard will be key . I say we can hold our own as record of 3 wins in last 4 matches at anfield is awesome.. 1-3 1-1 1-3
Capable of making comeback if we go behind we ll be ok

I think we will go behind but gain composure as the game goes on. Benteke and Weimann will click like they did last season and we will win 3-1. Goals from Weimann, Benteke and either Gabby or Holt.

I think its certainly recognizable and certainly I clearly perceived this already. its pretty obvious to state this sort of thing merely coz of the predictable nature of villas play. but thanks I already knew all this !! i

I also feel sorrie for wannabe liverpool being a top team as find it ridic funny that these scousers are sickenly annoyed that we have a system that works away from home!! Liverpool away from home arent so hot !! they cant beat teams like chelsea city hull arsenal newcastle away with their approach. ha! so they arent gonna be the top team and will cost there champions league dream !

The key stat is  Villa’s approach has yielded a sizable number of points on the road picking up 15 points from 10 away games and having the 2nd best away defensive record.

Our away approach is why we WONT LOSE today Liverpool like all the other teams worry with villas counter attack

UTV!!  :D ;D

We have capitulated to Liverpool on numerous occasions with far stronger teams that we will field today. However, Liverpool don't have quite the meanness about them that they used to have. Their striking power is as good as it ever was though. You just have to hope we will do it. There is no point throwing the towel in. Get into them, Villa!

Hoping he starts Bertrand and Holt as that should lift the whole team. Benteke has broken his duck now so you never know.

They already have. A few minutes after coming on Sturridge scored against Stoke. Before that he set Suarez up.

Benteke to score + villa win 25-1
Villa win 1-0  33-1
Villa win 15-1

Wow. I'm still not tempted though...

That article is a very well researched and accurate one. I've not seen as comprehensive an analysis from a villa can never mind from a rival supporter

For all those who claim stats are meaningless, I think that article is an example of how to use them. Of course, they prove reasonably little and can be misleading on an individual game. But over a season, as a pattern, it's hard to argue that the stats back up what we've been seeing with our own eyes.

I'd prefer it more if Gerrard was out sitting with the fans again he always does well against us.

I sat next to Richard Walker in the north stand once when he was out injured, 6 Apps 2 goals for us was pretty decent he deserved more of a chance I always thought.

If they did win 33-1 you just know there would be complaints about failure to keep a clean sheet.
