Very good point that they are struggling in league one that seems to have been forgotten.

Forgotten by who?  I've lost count of the number of times I've seen someone pointing out that they're 18th and lost to Walsall in the week.

I don't remember you saying anything like that with your defence of the manager.

Great job sticking it to Mark Regan, who needs a good (metaphorical) kicking.

I don't the cup has much relevence to premiership sides anymore the huge financial package that comes with a)
European qualification or b) premiership survival far outweigh the FA cup. It's sad but true, it has become an inconvenience, if i had the choice of Villa winning the cup or staying in the premiership it wouldn't be a hard decision, i'm suprised he didn't give some of the young kids a run.

We can look forward to an interesting second half of the season when we are involved in a(nother) relegation scrap.

I wouldn't say I've been defending the manager (rather I've been stating that saying our players, manager and tactics are all shit and championship standard just doesn't fit with the fact that we're mid-table in the premier league, so  one or two of those factors have to be better than we're giving them credit), and I don't really see what relevance any perceived defending of the manager by me has to my comment.  You said that Sheffield United being near the bottom of the league seems to have been forgotten and I disputed that, a simple scan through the post-match thread backs that up.

Sorry.
Half Man Half Biscuit lyrics tend to pop into my head all the time:

Whiteness Thy Name Is Meltonian (http://www.chrisrand.com/hmhb/this-leaden-pall-1993/whiteness-thy-name-is-meltonian/)  First verse.

I always thought the "two lose one may be unfortunate" quote came from Hugo Drax in Moonraker.

Ciaran Clark on Villa web site

"We have Arsenal next Monday now. That will be a big game. We will look back at this game and then look forward to the Gunners. We have to concentrate on the next game. We need to concentrate fully.

"We will get together, group up and go again for the next game."

Isn't this just a little bit obvious?

I didn't think Sheffield Utd played particularly brilliantly, they were very well drilled and organised but that was it. They didn't have to be any better, that they restricted us to so few chances was pretty damning.

In the cold light of day they had a couple of speculative shots one via a big deflection. Benteke had two headed chances at the end of the first half that he'd have put away with his eyes closed last season.

Doesn't hide the fact we were very poor and they only had to hold their shape to keep us at arms length for most of the game.

Lambert's tenure has seen us exit both cups over two seasons to sides from each of the four divisions. That's surely a unique achievement, if achievement be the appropriate word to use.

And a hat tip to Plumbutt for a predictable wander off piste.
