At a 25 year celebration of Acorns at VP last night Randy announced he was donating a £1m to them.
Fair play, can't imagine many of the other owners doing the same.,
-
Won't stop some fans claiming he's exactly the same as Doug and never puts his hand in his pocket despite conclusive evidence to the contrary
-
Well done Mr Lerner.
-
Fair play to him. Our association with Acorns is something I'm very proud of, long may it continue.
-
Excellent.
-
Excellent gesture well done Mr Lerner
-
Excellent - and nice to see Ian Bell has Acorns on the back of his bat where some players have a sponsors logo
-
Well done Randy and well done Ian. Football is insignificant by comparison.
-
Well done Mr Lerner.
Agreed, a marvellous gesture which will make a great difference to those in need .
-
Now - that's worth praising - well done Randy
-
Excellent gesture, hopefully the resultant publicity will result in more donations, whatever the amount.
-
That's an extremely generous gesture, well done Randy.
-
He didn't give any cash though. He just handed over Helenius and said they can do what they like with him.
;)
Seriously though, well done Randolph.
-
Fair play Randy, and well done!
-
Well done Mr L.
-
Nice one.
-
Round of applause for Randy Lerner
-
We are a class act.
-
Mes que un club.

From acorns:
We received an unexpected gift from Randy Lerner, owner of our charity partner Aston Villa FC, at a 25th anniversary celebration event last night. Here’s the response from our chief executive, David Strudley:
“We are truly overwhelmed by Randy Lerner’s hugely generous donation of £1m over the next four years – a totally unexpected gift to help celebrate the milestone of 25 years of caring by Acorns.
“This money will provide a major boost to our current strategy of generating an additional £4.2m by 2018 to allow us to increase the number of children and families we care for by 50%.
“On behalf of all the children, families, staff, volunteers and supporters of Acorns, I would like to say a HUGE thank you.”
-
Obviously, that is great. Even more obviously, we are all secretly wondering why that won't be spent on a new centre back or creative midfielder in January.
-
So they are trying to raise additional money to increase their care by 50% and he has basically given them about a quarter of their target. Class.
-

Are you serious?

No.

There's always one!
-
Brilliant, they provide fantastic support to the children they look after and their families. I struggle to think of a more worthy cause for a football club to be involved with and Randy's personal commitment is unquestionable.
-
Chill out, dudes. Randy has more than one one million to spend, if he wants to.
-
What Chris said.
I'd imagine from the statement that in addition to the donation, there's a long term commitment to Acorns from the club.

Their CEO recently said that since first becoming involved with Villa they can handle 50% more cases than they used to.

That is utterly great.
-
A magnificent gesture.
-
Well done chap but I guess it's similar to be putting a fiver in the bucket.
-
Amazing gesture, well done Randy.
-
We really are a tremendous Football Club aren't we, well done Randy.
-
Excellent from Mr Lerner.
-
Good work Randy, good timing as well with the recent piece in the fanzine about some foreigner owners.
-
Wonderful gesture Mr Lerner.
Even more to be proud about.
-
I still think he cares about a great many things even if it isn't always obvious. This is a superb gesture. Well done Randy.
-
That's excellent news, I doth my hat to you sir.
-
It's great news. Frankly if Randy has got more money to spend/give away, I'd rather he gave it to Acorns than PL.
-
Thank you Mr Lerner - so many families across the Midlands will be eternally grateful for your gesture... football is so trivial when compared to the to the life of a child - it would be nice to think that some of his employees are equally as generous.
-
Lovely gesture from Mr Lerner. He doesn't have to do this but he does and he should be shown massive respect for this.
-

I see you are as generous as usual.
-
For a parent to outlive one or more of their children is probably number one in the top ten of awful things that can happen to someone. Anything that can be done to help families with children who have life limiting conditions [anyone with an ounce of common sense knows what that means] should be applauded. I'm all for having a laugh, but to knock this gesture, and make comments about the money should have been spent on players etc, shows a lack of emotional intelligence imo.
-
Superb, Well done Randy.

Well said.
-
My own niece spent many years of respite care at Acorns in Selly Oak so it's a subject very close to my heart. They're a wonderful organisation and I'm proud our club supports them so much.
Well done, Randy!
-
In a time where cuts to funding through traditional measures for such brilliant organisations such as Acorns are a really sad and horrible fact of life, gestures like this mean all the more to keep them running.
Brilliant work, and long may the association and funding continue.
-

I just think that Randy would get more happiness out of life by doing this sort of thing rather than fritter his money away on a Premier League Football Club.
-
I completely agree with you. I would much prefer Acorns getting it than it being paid towards another footballer's wages.
-
However the two things are not disassociated. Randy got to know Acorns through being here and his ownership of Villa. So Acorns are benefitting because of the club, the players and, the most important, the owner. Disregarding anything to do with the business of the club is nonsense even if we think footballers are overpaid and Lambert is wasting money etcetc.
-
Well done Randy, and good luck Acorns.
-
What a wonderful thing to do. The best news by far.
-
Off the pitch, we're still a great club.
-
Fantastic gesture.
-
Off the pitch, we're still a great club.
We are still a great club however we don't have a very good first team at the moment.
-
Off the pitch, we're still a great club.
That's the sad thing isn't it... off the pitch we are pretty much top class at everything we do... community presence, hospitality, supporter involvement... if only we could match it on the pitch.
Well done RL for this though. It will make a massive difference to some very poorly kids.
-
A magnificent gesture, and money which will help provide facilities for the children and their families.
-
Top work Randy. Just one more in a long long list of reasons I'm always proud to be Villa.
-
In a similar vein this is from Ajax and some of their work their foundation does for kids like those at Acorns

Despite all the heartache I'm so proud of the club and happy we have a great owner.

Heartache?
This isn't heartache. For all we moan about it, it's only football.

I sincerely hope that young man gets to tell his kids about that one day

Leave the heartbreaking to the Noses who work at Jaguar Land Rover and 24 hour shifts, 7 days a week, who cannot get down to the Sty Tom.
