Commentary is foreign but still some good goals to be enjoyed in this one. I seem to remember this being the first home game of that season and with Savo sold, Collymore crippled and Yorke in limbo our front two consisted of Julian Joachim and.... Riccardo Scimeca! To be fair he was a stiker in the youth team at one point and did reasonably well in this match. Alan Thompson's home debut and arguably the best he ever played for us? We missed a penalty in this one which was quite common place early on in this season. I don't recall any Villa striker winning as many penalties as Julian Joachim did in this season. Of interest in the Boro line-up, Andy Townsend's first return to Villa Park and some young whippersnapper called Gazza.

It absolutely pissed it down that day. Paul Merson played against us, and I think we brought Merson during the course of the following week. We missed quite a few penalties at the start of that season. Thompson missed a pentalty against Wimbledon, and Merson scored on his debut after missing his initial penalty!!

Is this the one where Gazza got Sent-Off for headbutting Boateng, but actually injured himself, whilst Boateng stayed on the pitch.

No, that's on the other thread.

Hamilton Ricard and Mikkel Beck. Ha ha. My god, that's a quality front two! ;D
