Quality.

Heres another 5-0 romp, this one vs Wimbledon in 1996. Love this game.

Cant believe that Blues game is six years old now. Crazy. Ashley Young was pretty much playing in the "hole" behind the front two at this time and destroying opposing defenders. I think we hit 6 at Derby, 4 v Bolton and then 5 here all in the space of three games. The most free-scoring Villa side and can remember and that includes the best sides fielded by Taylor, Atkinson and Little.

Something that haunts me is the fact that I've never been to a Villa - Blues game, it's why I sort of partially want them to get promoted.

Just so I can see us beat them, then they can liquidate or something.

I have never seen a pub as busy at 10 am as the Eddy was that morning.
And the rest of the day was fantastic.

It haunts me that I missed this one. I had just split up with the love of my life and was somewhat emotional which can make me a tad unpredicitable at times. Morning of the game a mate phoned and said he had a freebie if I wanted to go. I said no as I was worried if we lost i'd get myself into trouble. Ho hum.

There was a downside however - wasn't the Christopher Priest incident following this game?

Along with the Tranmere and Blackburn semis one of the great Villa Park ocassions of my time. A great day.

Never tire of watching this but sad that we can't attract or afford such quality players anymore. Those days are gone I'm afraid.

It's tragic he never got to lift a trophy for Villa.

I have never seen a pub as busy at 10 am as the Eddy was that morning.
And the rest of the day was fantastic.

I took three lads up to this that I play footy with in London and stayed in the Eddy's over night, there was some big boxing match on at 2am and we didn't get a wink of sleep, up and in the bar at 7am. After the game the garden was packed, a paddy wagon pulled up outside and pointed its camera over the fence, some clown threw a pint glass at it, I said to everyone "he'll be back with his mates, lets get out of here" 10 minutes later as we were packing our bags 50 OB emptied the place.

We were seated in the Lower Holte overlooking Witton lane, waving the Div's goodbye as they streamed out at 3-0 was most enjoyable.

The lads loved the atmosphere and still talk about it now when we meet up.

Carew picking up that bellboy and Mellberg getting subbed still brings a tear to my eye.
