Villa 4-1 win. Tommy Johnson to score a couple. Or Benteke.

Think this is a nailed on draw, West Ham don't score many and neither do we.

Plus we always seem to struggle to get a win down there. 1-1.

1-1. Neither team scores a lot. It'll be a tough old scrap too. I think we might get a bit bullied by West Ham, so I would hope Lambo will put Sylla in midfield with Delph just to give us more legs and a bit of power too.

Nolan for them. Benteke to rescue a point.

There is no way we are going 4 games without scoring and our defence has been better. We played really well for an hour on Saturday and being away suits us more. 2-0 to us and a V sign to the porn peddlers in the directors box. Benteke to bully Collins until he cries like a baby.

We should be beating crap like this, they've only got two fit forwards. One has no teeth and one is Can't Control. So expect a draw snatched from the jaws of victory.

Which teams that then?

Haha. I was tempted to leave it like that but I'm not sure the abuse would have been worth it.

1-5, I agree Benteke angry, Benteke score 3. Delph, and Tonev's first shot on target. Unbelievably 3 goals from the super driven floaty corner. Big head bemoaning his usually great asset of height.

2-1 Villa the usual nervy last 5 mins or so.

Academy 2-3 Villa.

Late winner which Big Sam blames on a throw in which wasn't given correctly in the 56th minute. Or some other such feeble excuse.

I used to like Allardyce but after a decade he really has start to grate on me.

2-0 West Ham. A struggle to break them down a goal near half time from a set piece and then another late on from a defensive lapse.

A draw would be a good result and give us something to build on heading to easier homer fixtures.

crap in last 2 games but was playing well before then especially away from home (Arsenal, Norwich, even Hull he was decent). If he is out I expect Weimann to play up near Benteke.

West Ham have lost last 3 at home and will be aiming to stop the rot more than anything. Suspect lambert will be thinking the same. cant see there being many goals.

Bennett is likely to come back in for Luna. Definitely need someone who is going to work hard protecting him as Downing will fancy his chances there. Id bring Sylla back in front of him, out of position but we dont have many alternatives. Think we have missed Lowton going forward a bit of late but Bacuna is much more solid at the back and to be fair has created decent chances for us on occasion. Would give Tonev another go on the right.

Id go for a Harry Bassett style 442

Guzan
Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Bennett
Tonev, Westwood, Delph, Sylla
Benteke, Weimann

If our forwards were on form, I'd really fancy us to win this. Their main threat will come from set pieces and I wonder if that will influence the selection. For example baker at left back. He's not great on the ball there but that might be worth it away from home.

Gabby - away from home he'd always be in my villa side so I'm hoping he's fit. I have a feeling he won't be though.

Bacuna to take any penalties. I think benteke has put every single penalty for us to the keeper's right hasn't he?

A blow if gabby's out. I think I'd go:

Guzan - bacuna vlaar Clark baker - sylla Westwood Delph - Weimann benteke Tonev

Would like to rest Weimann ideally but can't see us doing that if gabby is out too

Interested in how we get Lowton back in the side. Think that involves bacuna moving into midfield - possibly on the right of a 4411. But west ham pack the midfield with plenty of physical players so I think we need three in there and I think it needs to include sylla. But I don't think sylla can play in the central holding role so think Westwood stays

This is gonna be horrendous to watch I suspect.

Remember how bad Villa v Reading was last season? Think it was when we beat them 1-0 at home. I think the best description I heard of the match from someone on here was something like "It looked like two worms having a scrap!"
I suspect we'll witness something similar.

0-1 - Ray Stuart penalty 81 minutes.

Won by Goddard? Or Devonshire?

Hmmm not sure on that one - anyone?  I was only 10.

Well given this season's trend for mild improvement over last years equivalent fixtures, I'll go for the draw.

Probably 1-1.

Benteke to get the goal.

This:
Guzan; Vlaar, Clark; Baker; Bacuna, Westwood, Dylla, Delph, Tonev; Benteke, Weimann.

Or this:
Guzan; Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Lowton; Tonev, Westwood, Sylla, Delph; Weimann, Benteke.

Please. Assuming Gabby's injured. If fit, swap him for Weimann.

If they are playing 4-6-0 and we play counter attacking, surely it is going to be nought nought to quote Hugh Johns.

Afternoon all.

This is an interesting one. A team with no fit, recognised striker - although we do have Petric and Maiga - against a team that performs best on the road when counter-attacking with pace. Will this be a world first at a professional football match with both teams trying to make the other team take the ball so that they can nick it back and break? There's an outside chance, it has to be said.

Realistically the 4-6-0 thing has been and gone. It was a stroke of genius by Allardyce at Shite Hart Lane against the Lillyshite filth, albeit one enforced on him, but coming out before the Citeh game and telling the world he'll keep it up his sleeve and wont play it every week, and then proceeding to play it every week, was about as predictable as his defending a shit performance with the "we had chances to win it" excuse because we won a couple of corners and one of them almost hit Winston Reid's head (if he was 9ft tall). So having said all that, don't be surprised if Allardyce perseveres with it for this match.

Nonetheless I have an inkling that Carlton Cole will start. Allardyce has stated that the midweek league cup game vs Burnley was the equivalent for him of a third pre-season game, which in Allardyce talk is an ingenius double bluff that surely no-one could ever possible construe as Can't Control starting up top in a 4-5-1. Be afraid Villa fans. Be very afraid.

Anyway, 4-5-1 is the correct way to go for me. You can't play counter attacking with no striker at home against a team that plays counter attacking. I suspect if we are 4-5-1 it will be

Jusskalineninenien

Demel...Tomkins...Reid...Rat

........Noble....Morrison........

Downing....Nolan....Diame

.................CCole................

It might be Joe Cole instead of Diame. Personally I'd go for Diame and bring Joe Cole on second half.

As to the result, I'm not sure. I don't think there'll be a lot in it. Truth be told, neither side are great at the moment. West Ham will keep it tight at the back and in midfield and will probably concentrate on set pieces against a Villa side that will probably sit back a bit more.

I'm going to 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' for a 1-0 win. I'm not really sure who to, so I'll stick my neck out and say the home side. In any case, we need a win in this one. You have to beat the teams around you, as Allardyce likes to say, so West Ham need to be beating Villa at home.

"Villa have conceded the opening goal in seven of their Premier League fixtures this season, more than any other side.
They have only taken one point from the last three matches and failed to score in that time.
Paul Lambert has won more away league games (seven) as manager of Aston Villa than he has at Villa Park (six).
Christian Benteke has missed two penalties this season. There have only been six penalties missed in total in the top flight this term."

We pay a TV licence fee for depressing summaries like that.

I heard that Lowton isn't playing because he and Lambert had a falling out, I think he's girlfriend had a baby and they have moved back to Sheffield which has caused a rift as Lambert likes players to live in a 30 mile radius, anyone else heard anything similar?

I'm on a roll at the moment having predicted correctly the last three Villa results but this game really confuses me. I'd imagine we'll go again playing an open game which will suit West Ham, especially their midfield who are not only tough but can play a bit. The have a pretty solid defence so if Gabby doesn't play, they'll manage to double up on Benteke and keep him frustrated, not that our own players can't do that without any help.

Saying that, despite all the moaning about the Everton game, we certainly matched them and created far more chances for the first hour. Admittedly, we fell apart after the second goal but it's worth reminding ourselves that the first Everton goal was completely against the run of play. There are signs that we're slowly moulding ourselves into a very decent side but without any true leadership on the pitch, when confidence goes, it drops like a stone.

I'm hoping Sylla will be included as we'll need a real battler to get in the faces of the West Ham midfield but despite doing a decent job on the right, I'm still not convinced with Tonev. He reminds me of Tony Morley when we first signed him from Burnley. Great with the ball at his feet and bringing it forward but absolutely no end product. The less said about his shooting the better. Hopefully with time, like Morley, he can develop his game but we really can't afford the luxury of carrying passengers.

I'm going for a 2-1 defeat with goals from a corner and a late penalty. I really hope I'm wrong but just feel we'll get bullied again.

I heard that Lowton has been really poor whenever he played at right-back this season, and Bacuna has been good enough to be nigh-on undroppable.  Crazy far fetched stuff, I know.

I heard that Lowton has got a tattoo stating 'Bacuna sucks' across his backside and is in a platonic relationship with Joe Bennett which Paul is not happy about as he thinks Vlaar would make him much happier.

Cant control beat Ron Vlaar up a stick in the same game last season to be fair.

I cant see too many taking up the 6/5 on the home side. Villa seem reasonable value at better than 5/2. Villa are a much better side away from home but Id want to see Lambert's selection first before parting with a few quid
