Surprised baker stays in ahead of Clark but  tonev for El ahmedi is positive , can't play Westwood and kea in same team at home as it's too static - tonev will be interesting .

Not happy at all with Baker in instead of Clark, Baker isn't good enough. However come on you Villa boys, win please.

Sylla would have been a better option for me , with tonev replacing Weimann - but lets hope lambert has got it right.

Baker is the biggest concern, and Tonev needs to have an influence on the game.

looks like we are very light in midfield. Delph is going to be doing a lot of running today

Baker ahead of Clark is strange....more physical strength up against Lukaku perhaps

I think that's the game plan, frankly. Our system is essentially 6-4, with defensive solidity and rapid countering the strategy. It's not a bad one against Martinez, but 'defensive solidity' is always a bad thing to bank on with Villa these days.

Gareth Barry defending the counter. I like it. It's an attacking line up and Tonev will asked to get wide and service Benteke as much being played in a creative middle role. feel bad for Sylla, and can also understand Baker keeping his spot for Clark who is just coming back from injury.

Gonna have to watch the Baines overlap carefully and not leave the right back 2 v 1 repeatedly because he's got a very good delivery.

Baker will be fine, apart from Westwood, probably the team i would have picked.Sylla for Westwood would have given us more power and srengthNot sure Westwood will be able to cope with Barkley.

Clark is'nt an improvement on Baker.

Well whatever we call it it's certainly a more positive move bringing tonev in and providing a bit of width - most of us have said kea and Westwood in the same team at home is too negative - so lets watch with interest how this develops.

I'd put Sylla in to strengthen the midfield and put Gabby on the bench as he's not producing much lately.

I think we can. We have to prove to our better players we are going to build around them. Delph isn't in the Benteke price category where the bid would be stupid to turn down. He's a very solid and reliable player that can play a long time for us. We need to put players of his calibre around him.

Good half, could have 3-4 and they could have had a couple so I'm going to say we edged it.  Oddly there could been more chances but we were too eager to get it forward and they were too slow, if either side resolves that they'll boss the 2nd half.

Benteke makes us work with the style we're playing.

I only saw from about half way through so seem to have missed most of the talking points.  Good tempo to us today - Delph continues to look really good.

Open game and one we could really do with winning if we're going to build some momentum toward the top half.  Would be good to come away worthy and comfortable winners.

We're doing ok, we're matching them. Our final ball isn't there yet, the passing seems to peter out once we get to the 18 yard box. Everton have defended in numbers and Tim Howard is having a great game for them.

Great save by Guzan, we wouldn't have deserved to be going in 1 down at half time. An even match so far.

The term recent performances was incorrect on my part. More correct to say the past couple of years. The fact that we beat Man City doesn't change the fact that we've lost a lot of games after starting the stronger over the past few years.

Great improvement on recent Villa Park performances. We look like we actually know what we're doing for once, a great entertaining game that's only missing a goal. I doubt Everton will play such an open game second half, Martinez mush surely realise we're creating far too many chances. I'm expecting them to close the game down and defend deep hoping to catch us on the break.

Really enjoying this game. Let's just hope come full time we've got the three points.

If we show a bit of quality and composure we can win this.

If Benteke hadn't missed a few games we'd be couple up. He's lacking a but of sharpness. Right now he could do with a hand from Weimann and Gabby.

Luna going off and Baker moving to left back might be a blessing in disguise. Both were wretched in the first half. Vlaar, Bacuna and Delph have been our three best. Both teams finding the ball a bit hot at times, composure needed

The Bradford tactics it is, while Everton flood the midfield and have easy possession at walking pace

Osman has made some difference, Barkley was playing like a headless chicken

This isn't good enough at all, game over with 10 mins to go again at Villa Park, the masses heading for the exits....

im starting to wonder how far lambert can take us. this is his team now and weve been beaten by spurs, everton, Liverpool and Newcastle. his signings are no better than what we already had (benteke apart). im really getting fed up with this

Another fire drill at Villa Park. I thought last week was bad but today looks like there may only be Squeakies in there come the final whistle.

I wish lambert would play players in their strongest positions. Weimann/Gabby aren't wingers.

Said this last week - he needs different options on the bench: at the moment, his options are just more of the same. I wasn't saying this before the season started, but I do think he needs a tricky winger type of player, and of course the playmaker in the middle is missing.

Defence too weak , no experience and Weimann and gabby not clinical enough - add a weak midfield and we are poor.

Pretty well in another defeat. The previous 8 games they've been cack. Fuck settling for 3rd or 4th best. Get some decent, consistent, confident players in not gambles all the time.

Gareth Barry in a Villa shirt today and we would have won. He has stamped his class all over this game, interceptions, winning headers, keeping the ball, created the second. Exactly what Delph and even Westwood could benefit from.
I haven't seen much of Helenius but I'm getting close to chucking him into the Kozak pile.

We are aren,t we?

Survive this season is the goal. Sell a couple of players worth anything. Lower the wage bill. Buy untried untested risks from the lower leagues or smaller leagues abroad on low wages. Rinse and repeat.
