I know we've done favourite kit a million times but I don't think we've ever covered the WORST one ever! This is sparked off by me putting on the green/black/asics away kit yesterday and the missus going "ewwww gross." Unless she was talking about me of course.
Anyway, which are your least favourite kits (both home and away)?
Home kits

Away kits

Home - Easily the 99/00 top we wore in the FA Cup Final. It wasn't traditional, it had way too much blue on it and the Final itself obviously leaves me with very sour memories. Its not because its stripes because I loved the 93/95 one, I just hated the way it looked and everything about it. Claret shorts too! Urgh!
I didn't particularly like either of the LDV Vans home kits strangely enough. The one that everyone dogs on, the hummel halved kit worn by McInally and Platt etc, I don't actually mind that one. I should hate but its the kit we wore when I first got into the Villa so I have fond memories. In recent years the only one I am not too keen on is the Nike top from the McDonald/Houllier season. V bland.
Away kit - not keen on last seasons green kit but for me the winner again is a kit that sported LDV Vans logo, the blue kit we wore in Gregory's first full season.

Whatever anyone thought of the green/black Asics kit as a shirt it made a fantastic waistcoat.

I loved that one. Two wins at Highbury in the same season come to mind about that kit.
-
Without a doubt the Henson home and away shirts from 1985-87. I hated them from the start with no badge on the shirt and the way we played in them for those two seasons didn't help. I don't think we can be too proud of the away kits for the '83-'84 and '93-'95 seasons either. I'm not a fan of black away kits in general either.

I would second that, I just visualise Steve Hodge in that kit and all those dreadful mid 80s perms and mullets too. When I also think that my favourite kits remain the late 70s home and all white away ones, it makes you wonder if it is linked to your memories of a particular time as much as anything
-
I think the home Muller shirt in 1994 was atrocious and not keen on any of our yellow kits.

There is definately something in that. I don't think the home or away kits from '87-'89 are particularly great but I love them because they remind me of the promotion season and a lot of memorable away days.

1993-1995
-
The worst had to be the yellow Hummel one in olearys last season
-
99/00 home, blue away 95/96. Happy memories associated with both but just wrong.
-
Away was last seasons horrific "Glow in the Dark"
Home was the 2010-2011 kit, was not a fan of the chequers

Agree. Hokme 2010-2011 was awful. I hated the chequers. The Hummel early 2000's kits were also just wrong!
-
I loved the green, black asics away. I got outbid on the waist coat on eBay last week. God knows where I would wear it though. Our away kits have been a bit crappy the last few years. Still think white or yellow is best for us.

I still have mine..........and it fits !!
-
I hated the Henson shirts & associate it with a shit time
My favourites are the Umbro shirts, winning the league, 1990/91 & 92/93 & the yellow away kit
-
Henson kits, home and away. Shit kits, shit football, shit results. I still have nightmares about Blues at home and Charlton away in 1986-7, probably the two worst football days of my life.
-
The 1999/2000 one by a country mile - utterly terrible kit which looked like Trabzonspor, shame that the one year we got to the FA Cup final, we had that strip.

agree with that

Older fans will recall 1969/70 yellow and blue change kit.
Made its first appearance in a home friendly against the Italian U-21s. Everybody thought it was the opposition running onto the pitch and booed.
-
best away shirt has to be the european 81-82 shirt got it framed and signed by whole squad as prezzie from my kids looking at it now as i write this, hairs on back of neck standing up just looking at it. worst away has to be the chequer this season just dont get it. best home for me has to be the 69-70 3rd div one so simple yet so magical aston villa at its finest

Wasn't the 69-70 kit the all claret shirt with light blue shorts in which we were relegated? 3rd division was back to normal with the light blue lion on the shirt too.

Did it even have a proper badge on it?

Remember this well Andy. Up the Holte booing them foreign tanned ba**ards!
(Hadn't we just returned from a pre-season tour to Spain?)
Then my mate said: "I think that's Dick Edwards. Have we sold him?"
Pretty sure the players all ran back to the dressing room 2 minutes later and reappeared with the opposition 1 minute before kick off.
The Hensen kits are all really nasty, cheap looking tat.
-
Got a version of the 1878-82 black shirt for me and the boy a few a years ago.
Might wear it today!
-

I read something about how when we played in UEFA Cup games that season the sponsors logo was just 'LDV', the word 'Vans' had to be removed as was offensive in another European language, any truth in that?

Ah, I loved that yellow Hummel shirt. I think I am in the minority though. It got a slating in When Saturday Comes recently.

Hummel from around 1988, SGT and all that, thin pink stripes.

If I remember right, Sir Graham said when he arrived "We're getting rid of THAT first chance I get."

Any home kit that doesn't have claret shirt with blue sleeves is joint worst. I think I mainly hate the Merson-era one that was all one colour and managed to achieve the unique double (in modern times) of not having any claret OR any blue on it. They can make the away kit as bad as they like, I don't care (this year's is fantastic though).
That said, we must've worn Small Heath kits on a few occasions so maybe they should count as the worst?
-
Anytime our away kit is Yellow is a contender.
That silver NTL one we had around 2001 was pretty horrific as well.
-

The yellow and blue kit that we began wearing in 1969 was one of my favourites but I haven't liked the yellow ones since.

Brighton away, circa 1971.
Ray Graydon (and Bruce Rioch).........Pat McMahon........Fred Turnbull

Tommy Docherty and Arthur Cox. But who is the guy in the middle ?

What a picture. Never seen that one before. It's just so evocative of that era and helps imagine how earlier photos taken at that end in black and white must have been in reality. Does that make sense?
It's a vibrant colour photo at a part of Villa Park that wouldn't have changed a lot from the time that shot was taken right back to the early 1920s when the Trinity Road Stand was built.

It looks like Alan from Two And A Half Men.

agree with that
Me as well. As an impressionable teen I owned the home kit but I cringe at the thought of it now. I don't think any other kit we've had comes close and the fact they were equally as gash as the other means they are the worst, despite some pretty decent efforts at crapness. For instance, the use of stripes in the FA Cup season or the purple, Diadora/NTL effort.

With shit mullet hair cuts to match :-[

I was never that keen on any if the NTL shirts - wrong colours and the sponsor was garish compared to the claret and blue.
The 99-00 stripes was okay, I think, but what used to brass me off was that the players all wore a top three sizes too big so it looked cumbersome and unflattering. Not your typical complaint, but there it is.

Alan Wright wore a small boys and it still looked cumbersome...

agree. and i hate the particular disliked the Reebok kits. they were cheap, tatty, and horrible.
-
The 'missing man' is Graeme Leggatt, youth team coach, who resigned when the Doc was sacked.
-
That NTL pink Diadorra thing. Pretty awful.
-
The Hummel 87-89 kit was horrible, as were the Muller, but I quite like a horrible kit. They're two of my favourites. I weirdly really loved the Muller away kit, for it's unapologetic ghastliness. One hideous one I never took to was Cows, with the sleeve arrows. Not a good look.
First kit I had, the best and my favourite. Mita Copiers in 90-92 kit. Loved it.
In my opinion our last decent kit was Acorns in 09/10. Also our last decent season too. Next season, good kit, good season. Fingers crossed.

I loved that one. I've still got it folded up in a drawer somewhere.
My least favourite is the old fashioned lace type one which came out in the early 90's. I thought it was awful.

The gold away shorts in c'87 were fab!
