Everton look considerably better at the moment. I think Lukaku is looking very sharp indeed, whilst obviously Benteke needs to get back into the swing somewhat.

I don't think we have the guile to win this one as they're pretty solid defensively. But we could get a draw. 1-1. Benteke and Lukaku in the battle of the Belgians.

Don't forget we're Everton's bogey team although they did batter us at VP last season. We went to Goodison when we were on our knees Feb time and really should've won.

I'd say 1-1 although worryingly Woberto has a decent record at VP. Think Gabby will score, he always seems to score against Everton and it's about time he got one this season.

Probably a 1-1 or a 2-2 draw but I really have no idea what will happen with us in any given match at the moment.

A win would not surprise me, a draw would not surprise me, a defeat would not surprise me. So the only thing I can predict with any accuracy is that I am not going to be surprised on Saturday.

This is a game we reallly need to win - although we haven't started badly it is tight and we are only 3 points off the bottom 3 - a win would see us placed in the top 10 with more favourable fixtures ahead.

Could go either way but Martinez is a smart cookie - lambert needs to change things or we will get beat .

Stood on the bottom left hand corner of The Holte for this game (Rastas' corner).  Nothing makes you feel older than looking back on past Villa games as if they were yesteday, only to find that they were actually 24 years ago almost to the day.

I can't predict this result but I do predict that we won't still be talking about it in 24 years time

It was on ITV, what was wrong with your telly?

I was 9 and remember turning on at half time and it was 3-0, thinking if we keep up at this rate we'll get 6, sure enough we had in no time at all.

I remember getting home to watch the game again that evening. Sir Graham going off at HT at 3-0 saying how the fans now expect us to get 4,5 or 6 which we proceeded to do. Shame about the two late goals but for 80 minutes or so we were superb that day.

Fuck me. I still think of what might have been had he not left for England. How different everything would be, what we'd hhave achieved, the players we's have kept and bought.

I would like to see Sylla and Tonev come in for this. I think we may well see the former, but Andi will stick around for another few games, depriving the later.

I really liked how busy Tonev looked, not only on the ball, but also off it. I think we need that big of something different to aid the supply through the centre, especially when we're playing decent sides who peg of full backs further back.

Would agree entirely. Andy needs a spell out. Sylla needs to be played. Tonev looked up for it and more importantly could also provide some width.
I'd be tempted to put Helenius in at some point too, possibly playing off Benteke.

Its entirely possible that Lambert intended to set up the same way we did against City (3-5-2) for the spurs match but Clarks illness stopped that happening.

Will be interesting to see what he goes with against Everton, presuming that everyone is available again.

Guzan

Lowton

Baker
Luna

Sylla
Delph

Bacuna

Benteke

Bacuna and Agbonlahor wide. Weimann playing a more central role.

Try Evi's bar just up the road from the Alexander the Great. It's a Brit pub but she seemed to have all the games on when we were there about a month ago. Or there's another one just down the street from Papantoniou supermarket.

2-2 for me. First game i'm going to since i moved, bound not to be worth the effort ultimately.

We definitely need more width. At one point in the second half against Spurs Delph had beaten a couple of players then threw his arms out in frustration as there was no-one to pass to. I don't think we're yet sufficiently technically proficient to play narrowly through the middle and we need options out wide.

Could do with a morale boosting point at least here

I'd be a bit tempted to go something like:

Guzan - Lowton vlaar Clark Luna - sylla Delph - bacuna gabby Tonev - benteke

That's a bit more natural width than normally, though bacuna gives stability too. Gabby and Tonev can alternate

Tough game, but reckon we can nick it 2-1. Not sure if there will be too much hoof football though that will upset people

Villa don't play hoofball, that's utter nonsense. Sometimes when we get under pressure we go long and that's why we struggle, but we do try to pass it.

Absolutely this, despite what teats like Mourinho might say we are far from being a long ball team.

I would love somebody to tell me how we set out to defend against Liverpool, in a game where they had one shot at goal and spent 55 minutes defending their own 18 yard line. And if we are a long ball team, then so are Everton, considering Howard has a couple of assists to his name.

The only game this season I think we've set out with defence first in mind was Man City, and ironically we won that one.

We've tried hard in games against Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle at home but the main problem was that we were ineffectual. That's in part not having the ability to play as narrow a game that Lambert seems to want us to.
Again we're not a long ball team...until we get to a point of desperation and run out of ideas. That's inevitably when it gets a bit ugly and the hopeful punts become more frequent. Newcastle at home was probably the worst example of that.

In terms of today, Everton have a tight defence and well organised midfield. With Lukaku now they've a bit more cutting edge in attack. I think they're a good side and I can't see us winning. I'm hoping that our decent record against them (aside from last season) will be enough to get us a draw. I'm looking forward to November though when the games get (hopefully) a little easier.

Watched a bit of Everton v Hull and they werent all that great (better than us mind against the same opposition). They struggled defending any sort of crosses into their own box and Howard looks a bag of nerves at the moment. Benteke and Gabby could go well tomorrow against there defence. I think we simply have to press Barry high up the pitch, he has never had the quick feet to get himself out of tight spots, even more so now. We give him time on the ball and we will be in trouble. Thats probably warrants either Sylla or Bacuna playing in midfield to give us more mobility and pace in there. I dont rate James McCarthy all that much and Delph I think can outshine another England pretender in Barkley. Everton's two full backs attack very well but Coleman struggles a bit in his positioning at times. Gabby in form could trouble him but if he plays with the same half arsed attitude as against the Spuds then we wont create at all.
Would definitely have Vlaar pick up Lukaku as I have horrible memories of Clark getting tormented by Anichebe against the same opposition last year.
Team I would go for 4-2-2-2 type formation. would bring back in Lowton for this one to give us a bit more going forward. Kea and Westwood arent offering much at the moment and bringing Bacuna into midfield seems to be the only other option we have.

------------Guzan
Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Luna
------Bacuna-----Delph
---Sylla, ------------Bennett
------Benteke----Gabby-------

Villa 1 - Everton 3
We need to get our act together in the centre of the park in our home fixtures - until that happens I foresee many more disappointing results.  Martinez to outfox Lambert in the tactical stakes I fear.
VCTM Jnr has opted to stay on Merseyside and play for his local hockey team.
I will be playing lone ranger in a couple of hours - driving down the M6 -

Keep putting the bets on Villa losing in the first half but winning the game. I only omitted to do it once this season and you might guess which game that was.

3-1 Villa after going behind.

Can't predict. I am too busy plotting how to 1) find a bar in Paphos with the game on (is it on?). 2) convince she-who-has-not-had-leave-since-Spring to nip in for a quick sharpener before we look at the mosaics.
Any sports bar with multiscreens, most have the games chalked up somewhere

You think you have problems? They can get anything on Vıp box there, just a matter of convincing them..me, I am in Malatya E. Turkey trying to translate the idea of wanting to even watch a yabancı/foreign team..perseverance! Not many sports bars for a start!

Losing so many home games and we need to sort it quickly, with 110 per cent from the players and the support of our wonderful fans I am sure we can get the right result (Wording slightly wrong) by the way think Everton will be a bit to strong for us but a draw is a definate possibility if we include Sylla at the expense of KEA to give Delph a bit of defensive  support to enable him to push forward to support the forwards.

apologies if posted already but pretty funny everton preview of the game - http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/61464-Aston-Villa-v-Everton-26th-Oct-15-00

best bits....

On benteke - In terms of his quality he stands out in this Villa team like a blonde haired child in a Greek gyspy camp.

on our defence - A defence that is to clean sheets what dogsh*t is to the new trabs
