Hi Mods if there is a relative thread already please move.
a small problem, me and my mate travel up from Cambridge for all home games and usually park down near the Manor Tavern and although it is incredibly good for parking and for us to get away after the game, the beer in the Tav is how can I put it nicely.....appallingly.
is there any where else we could park for a fiver and find a good pub with decent beer and god forbid any real ales on offer, can walk to the ground in 15 mins or so and can get away pretty quickly on to the M6 after the game?
we like the Swan and Mitre but it is usually chokker by the time we get there, but they only seem to serve Guinness, Carlsberg and BrewXI and we love the Bartons but we do not fancy leaving our cars in Newtown, so we are thinking of trying the Villa Tavern on Saturday
I know that is a big list of wants and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Parking: One Stop Shopping centre, right next to the Perry Barr dog's track.

I think there is a school that you can park in for about a fiver, that is 5 minutes walk from the Bartons. Would take you about 2 minutes to get out of traffic after the game too.
-
I used to park on the road by the side of The Vine pub.

There's never been an issue with parking at the Barton's.

oh is that right ? sorry to assume that there had been problems, but after talking to some family members that live in Brum they seemed to indicate that there were no places to park safely ?
cheers Dave, I will investigate further

There's the pub car park and also the Drum is fine. Without being too flippant, people who don't go to the Barton's tend to think there's a less than 50/50 chance of leaving the area alive.

Try the Hare of the Dog pub. There's a car park on the university I think but you can also park nearby for a fiver. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the ground and the beer is reasonably priced. You do tend to get away fans in there sometimes but it's never a problem.
-
For access to the M6, we park on an indusrtial estate near the Wing Wah supermarket. There are loads of pubs on the 15 minute walk to the ground, and you can be straight on the M6 through the back streets in no time
-
I've parked in the Bartons a few times, had
beers a half of shandy and gone to the game, leaving car in car park. They said it was OK and that they had CCTV. Never had any problems (apart from the old Dave Woodhall just happens to walk in with a carrier bag of books in his hand trick).

My brother reported that they'd started charging a fiver in the Drum recently.

Fair do's chief, no doubt it doesn't cost the debt of an African state to drive it like mine.

Carry on up Holborn Hill from the Swan & Mitre 5 min walk and you get to The Villa Tavern opposite the elegant old public baths. Free parking and the lads will wash your car for £2.50

Caution: I once came back from the usual spanking off Man Utd to find my car propped up on bricks in the car park, and my brothers Christmas presents stolen from the boot.

How long ago was that ? Never had a problem there personally but I guess most places down B6 come with a risk factor.

Back in 2006 I think, we always used to that boozer but I think that was the last time as it had gone downhill a bit.

we were thinking of parking in the site just off Holborn Hill for a £5 and walking back up to the Villa Tavern, we feel abit like Gary and Tony from Men Behaving Badly trying out new "locals"......lol
we shall be visiting over the next few matches, Sacred Heart(?) , The Bartons, The New Adventurers, Villa Tavern, Aston Social, Holte Suite, Holte Hotel...is the King Edward still open ?

The Aston Tavern looks a long way off opening as well.

There's also Witton Arms and The Cap n Gown

Just park at the Bartons. It will be fine. And you can have a beer with us before the game. You lucky sods.

love it in there, we went for the Everton game and was not a problem at all as we parked in our normal place which is handy to get away after the game and walked to Aston Cross and down the main road to the Bartons and it took about 10/15 mins to walk it and about 20 to the Villa.
we met a couple of Worcester Villians in there.
-
Star City.
Bit of a trek to VP but can get easily on the M6 after the game.
-
We went to The Barton's Arms before the game yesterday for the first time (usually we turn up way to late so have to leg it into the ground for a Balti pie instead). Brilliant, beautiful old pub, loads of great beer, good chat with a few Villa old boys and a friendly vibe generally. We just parked on one of the streets nearby and car was fine, easy 15 minute walk back across the park to get to the ground. Will be trying to get down there for a beer before most home games now, especially as I don't have a car so can always enjoy a few pre-match ales haha!

Tesco on Aston Lane have recently have recently started doing match day parking for £4. An easy out for those heading towards the A34 or M5/M6

Surely that's the wrong side of the ground for the M6 - am assuming you mean that way then up the A34 to the M6?
In terms of M6 access afterwards, I recommend the Power League as a good place to park. It's a bit of a walk, mind, and I am lazy so usually forego it for the convenience of the Asda car park.
-
The Asda that closed 20 years ago, obv.
-
The walk back to the car always seems shorter when we've won.

Sacred Heart ticks some of the boxes except the near to M6 for fast getaway clause; oh and the real ale !
Apart from these, it's a secure car park and a swift 8 minute walk to William McGregor :)
