I think if at any time any of us wonder why we fell in love with Aston Villa FC its all right there on these pics.

I think this is a beautiful picture and will definitely be this years Christmas card from MB and family.

Wow. Brlliant. Love the old game photos. Looks like we were playing Palace back in the 70s. Remember the games standing on the Holte with the North stand cranes in the background as that stand was being built

Great action shot in tonight's programme from the 1957 FA Cup semi final replay against Albion (at the sty of all places). Didn't know that the replay was played on a Thursday afternoon and there were over 58,000 there.

That picture of the Holte in the sky advert for ford makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I see it makes me so proud. No matter what stand at what ground anywhere in the world will never beat it

Some pics of Villa in here, wonder who the lad in the kit at Wembley is/was?

I think he was the team's mascot and his name escapes me completely. Jon (who else?) Russell wrote something about him in a past H&V.

Being similar in age in 1957, I can even now recall the envy that I felt for that lad.
-
Andrew Pugh. He was there with his mother and father.

Seeing those folks with their suits on brings a lump to the throat.

You can just see the Holte End.

I know it's not him, but he has a resemblance to a young Lee Hendrie.

Would have been the mascot given that he is in full kit. We had one permanent mascot in those days but I've no idea who or how he was chosen.
I like the quote from the later picture of the old Trinity in 1954 - "Sixty years on, much of Villa Park really hasn't changed all that much". We wish.

I noted that. Not much has changed, apart from the four entirely new stands.

A lot has changed since this photo was taken.

It always happens when I post images from work, for some reason.

Let's try the same URL from home:

Yes. Works perfectly.
-
I must admit that when I saw Legion had edited my post but I couldn't see any difference I was slightly confused. :)
-
There are some real good snippets on that site.
I don't know if I got this from there or elsewhere.

The legend with it said that the area marked 'site' was actually the blacksmiths building that was used in part as a changing room. Looking at google earth the building there today is/was a car tyre outfit and looks too new to be from the late 1800s. However one view shows this :-

The side wall has an area that has been bricked in whcih together with the window could be a large entrace. Maybe the building is older than it looks. It just made me wonder if something from our Perry Barr days still exists.

Wonderful photo of Villa Park during a match between Aston Villa and Liverpool in 1907 (https://twitter.com/HistoryPixs/status/441441829507317760/photo/1)

Am sure I've seen this discussion elsewhere, but that can't be 1907 - the Trinity Rd stand wasn't built till the 1922-3 season.

The last line on that picture of Birmingham Football Club...
'Small Heath Club a future of unqualified prosperity'. They were even deluded back then.

That made me laugh. However, if you accept that 'unqualified prosperity' could allude to both ends of the scale then I think we can honestly say they have achieved unqualified prosperity. ;)

When I was at primary school I had a mate who's house contained photos of this guy. Garratty was his great grandad. My mate's dad did a lot to help form my appreciation of Villa's history.
