I fear spurs are becoming a bit of a bogey side for us. They've got a lot of quality in midfield and that's where we're weakest especially at the moment. 2-0 defeat for me.

Would be great if benteke is fit but I wouldn't risk him as I'd say it's more important to have him fully fit in November and December where I think he can plunder a few goals.

Guzan - Lowton vlaar Clark Luna - bacuna Westwood Delph gabby - Weimann - kozak

Though I expect Lowton will still be out of favour so won't be in the team yet.

If West Ham can beat them, we can certainly beat them. League cup aside they are not scoring many goals yet (1 or 2 have been penalties too) and our confidence must be fairly high at the minute. I reckon we can get a long overdue win over them. This is not blind optimism as I am fairly often pessimistic about other matches some of you lot reckon we will win.

3-2 Villa

Kozak to have a blinder, Bacuna continuing his decent run of firm with the third goal.

But Villa being Villa we will be holding on for dear life well into injury time.

Keep Andros Townsend quiet, god knows how and we may just stand a good chance. If Benteke is fit it would be a massive boost for us in this game.
I have gone for a draw but a win is possible.

Tough one. Spurs will be desperate to bounce back after that awful result against Wet Spam. They'd looked possible contenders up until that point, if unspectacular.
On the other hand we'll have revenge on our minds and be bouyed by our last home result, and hopefully big CB back in the side.

I reckon they might play into our hands a bit, allowing us to break on them, which suits our game. I think we'll score. We'll concede. Defensively we look fairly good now, so I don't see them notching up close to 4 again.

2-2.
Benteke, Weimann.

Couple of wankers for them.

1-3 Spurs.

Like Matt above, I don't think they're a good match up for us, they have pace out wide which our back 4 struggle against as we saw against Newcastle, they have power in midfield which our central lot usually struggle against and they have pace in defence which will probably scupper our strikers. And if all else fails pull the opponents shorts down and a foul won't be given.

They're hardly invincible though, West Ham battered them which was a remarkable result and they took 94 minutes to score at Cardiff so hopefully Guzan's in good form.

Benteke needs to start really, just give the back 4 a little bit more to think about, Sylla also needs to start aswell.

For me this game is a bit test of Lambert's managerial potential. Spurs have come to VP twice in the last 8 months and taken the piss, I really don't want that happening for a third time so hopefully Lambert can come out with a good plan to negate their threat.

The Football Universe is lining up against us for this one...

Tottenham have something to prove following loss to West Ham

Townsend will be raring to go after England performances

And to top it off Lambert has been in the paper saying "townsend is no Bale"

That has 3 - 0 with Townsend Hat-trick written all over it to me!

Because they won the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1971? Because they have over-sold their best player abroad? Because Soldado can score penalties? Because they have a cock on their shirts? No-one knows. Hope we really stitch them up with a last minute 2-1 win after they've had 100 shots all saved by the wall that is Guzan.

They have superior players in most areas to us and they've embarassed us at VP on their last three visits so it's going to take a big effort to get a point or three off them.

We need to combat the walker/townsend combination - spurs are beatable but it will be difficult - certainly we shouldn't go into the game  with any fear - the confidence from beating man city will hopefully help us at villa park - will be a close open game i feel with not much between the sides .

It'll be interesting to see if he goes back to the same formation that beat Man City, with the extra defender in there. Personally if Benteke is fit and raring to go, i'd throw him back in. If he's not, i'd be tempted to leave Kozak out and play either an extra defender or midfielder with just Gabby and Weimann up front.

Indeed.

I'd also add the fact everyone thought we'd lose heavily to Man City, when we actually won, doesn't really make a huge amount of difference. On paper, and on the evidence of what I have seen this season, Spurs are a much better side than us.

I can't really see the justification for having a pop at people when they say they reckon we'll lose against a team much better than us. It's hardly bet of the century, is it?

I can see this having a similar pattern of play as the Man City game so hopefully it will be the same result. They will have a lot of possession and our tactics might be to let them have the ball in areas where they aren't going to be much of a threat and hit them on the counter. Then second half we might press them a lot higher up the pitch and be a lot more aggressive when attacking them.

I think looking at the poll results we've largely been reasonably positive given the opposition and what happened last time out.

I fancy a result with Benteke. Without him, I'm not so sure. The trouble with a result like the one we had against City, is that Spurs will be less inclined to take us lightly. I think that's also more so given their last match. They'll be well up for righting the West Ham debacle.
We are due for revenge though. We were awful against them last season and wretched in the LC this season.

Fast becoming the team I dislike the most, especially because everyone I work with seems to support them and they (the workers) are such annoying tossers you wouldn't believe.

Son back for 2nd game this season (renewed his ST then he got a saturday job, typical) and the last one he saw was the cup game but think we're improving so going draw, at least its a start.

I had a dream about the match last night: Spurs nicking a 2-2 draw in the final minute after a very feisty affair.

The magic of the new tunnel has refocused my energies, however, and I feel sure we can win this one.  It's a big three points: win the game and climb that table, Villa.

We seem to be breaking some of our long held runs this season, the latest one was the 0-0 against Hull.
Here's two more I like us to remedy on Sunday:-

o  have not won successive Premier League home games in a single season since August 2010.

o  have not kept a clean sheet in the last 14 Premier League home games, conceding 25 goals in that run.

Fast becoming the team I dislike the most, especially because everyone I work with seems to support them and they (the workers) are such annoying tossers you wouldn't believe.

I know mate. Tbh there is not much to dislike about them, more of a personal dislike of London tbh for me.

If you took a purely statistical look at form, it looks like a low scoring game, probably 1-1. Spurs have averaged almost a goal a game and only scored two once. But they don't concede many.

We've generally not conceded more than one in many games.

But our record v spurs is very poor. We struggle to score and that may happen again. And you have to think spurs will improve their goal scoring soon.

Could go either way I reckon. But I'm expecting a performance a bit like the city game. I don't expect us to have lots of the ball

It's a pity WSpam turned them over so comprehensively last time, really; that'll have put them on their mettle.
I cannot see us not scoring .... but can we get through the first 30 minutes without conceding at least one goal?

Games after international breaks are strange ones but the extra time off will have Gabby much fitter than he was at Hull anyway. I was disgusted with our performance v Hull, the lack of ambition on the pitch (Delph aside) and on the sideline was depressingly like the GT2 days. If we carry on in the same tone on Sunday, it could be another 4-0 defeat to Spurs.

Just worried about what team Lambert will put out, we got away with one big time imo with the 5 at the back effort v City and a similar effort here will see us soundly beaten. The back 4 picks itself, Bacuna and Clark deservedly ahead of Lowton and Baker on form. Midfield apart from Delph is struggling, Kea has been solid enough and deserves a spot but the other 2 or 3 places are well up for grabs. We lack width, a player that gets beyond the strikers and any semblance of guile. Nzogbia is probably getting better the less he plays (the Cuellar effect) but a player like him is what we need. None of the forwards we have brought in have settled yet, Weimann has been pretty useless this season, Gabby has created goals but needs to nip in the bud one of his goalless runs soon.

Id bring in lads that havent been given much of a chance this season so far, I dont see the point in leaving players in the squad if you dont intend to use them. Bennett and Herd cant be any worse than some players that have played so far this season and might surprise us. Herd isnt much of a footballer but can add mobility and bite to our midfield. Bennett has a nice left boot on him and might be able to find Benteke with some good crosses. Westwood's attitude the last day was piss poor and Weimann is another one that needs a kick up the arse. Id drop both of them.

Guzan
Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Luna
-------Herd, Delph----------
---Kea--------------Bennett
-----Gabby----Benteke---

Like I said the other day, if Benteke is ok then he goes back in. If not, i'd go with Weimann and Gabby up front, put Lowton back in and maybe play Bacuna in front of him to give us some width.

Soldado has been a bit of a damp squib so far. 2 goals from pens so far in the league. He's very Bentesque too, he doesn't really get involved much in the play, so if he's not scoring, he's being carried a lot.
Bales goal threat is still evidently missed too.

I certainly don't see them scoring 4 again. We shall see but my guts telling me 2-2. It's either that or I've just mis-reading gas.

If I said on December 23rd, 2012, 1 week after beating Liverpool 3-1 away, that I think it's going to be 8-0 to Chelsea....what would you say?

You really think Spurs record of 6 in 7 is going to continue all season? Why can't it change, why can't it change against us? Our record at White Hart Lane is crap, our record against Spurs is crap full stop.

So I'm going to predict, because I'm allowed to do that, Spurs will score 4 and Villa will score 2. If it's not that and we get a point or even 3, I will be as happy as you always are on here. Until then...

Is that ok with you my little ray of sunshine?

Now let me tell you - his boat is big and I mean BIG - f&$king 225ft of super liner that made the boat I was on look like a bleedin dinghy!!!!!

In this match I think a 3-5-2 formation to be played. Keeping the ball is the main thing spurs have shown there good at this season . There defense was exposed last time out and feel pace of agbonlahor in particular will be key. For me gabby.and andi up front if benteke can't start .  I think have a compact solid three of Westwood delph and sylla with Luna and Bacuna on wings back is way to go . The threat of Townsend when he cuts in will be nullified when he runs into our midfield . I say 1 - 0 villa agbonlahor  or maybe 2-0 if lloris or Dawson get sent off as both are error prone .

Well it all depends on Benteke doesnt it. I have no doubt at all he will play whether hes 100% fit or not. Benteke although he has scored goals this season has not yet  hit the heights of the second half of last season. His all all round play which is exceptional when he is on his game has not been there to see. This is the game when it must come back. Townsend doesnt bother me he will be expected to perform wonders and probably will be very quiet. Thank God its not Bale or Lennon playing we would have had problems. Luna will need help but should be able to cope. Delph may outshine everybody in his purple patch of form but he doesnt look like scoring. Gabby needs to provide an all round threat which he may well do but our bigest problem may well be on Spurs bench. Jermain Defoe. He always looks like scoring and is a very clinical finisher.

I think Spurs will win 2-1

All that laughable talk about spurs winning league when they get humped 3-0 at home to west ham and its reported as an off day. The fact we had 'tougher' fixtures and only 3 points behind them. The fact that spurs havent convincingly beaten anyone this season and not won their big games against arsenal (lost) and chelsea  says to me they are vastly over rated. In a league when teams are very competitive i can only see Villa who have scored more goals than spurs today score more and win.

We do, and i think Delph really helps there. What I do like is that they are weak through middle. West Ham really exploited that in their last game . I like Benteke vs their CB's so our delivery from wide and midfield positions on setting him needs to be excellent today.
