Who remembers this one? Lot riding on this game, Graham Taylor possibly facing the axe if we lost this one and as it turned out this victory was the springboard for the rest of the season. Interesting to see Dean Saunders wasting several chances for Derby, great goal from Platty. Nice shots of the Trinity Road Stand in this one.

I as always was at this one, not a great performance but a massive 3 points for Villa and Graham Taylor who was under pressure at this stage (as outlined before) having lost at home to QPR and a Trevor Francis hatrick the week before. Shame that little over 16,000 were at this game.

This was supposedly the game when Doug was going to sack Sir Graham if we had lost.

Nice sunny day I remember it well. We hung on for the last half hour somehow at times we were at Derby's mercy but we got away with it. It was a massive feeling of relief walking back to Aston station that afternoon.

Dean Saunders' best game for us.

I remember the MOTD (I think) footage with mark wright mouthing to the ref that Platt was all over his back. I have erased all of Derby's chances as I remember Platt's goal and Phil Gee's miss at the end. Didn't the winner go 2nd or is that another game against Derby?

The winner eventually went second, but definately not straight after that game. Maybe Derby could have gone second if they had won. They had a decent couple of seasons around that time before the wheels fell off.

I remember the first full season under John Gregory, we played Derby fairly on and I think we were first and they were second. Merson scored the winner in front of the North Stand (I was upper tier there that day) after a loose ball in midfield put him through for a one on one. I seem to recall one of the Derby players was a Villa fan - Lee Carsley perhaps? - and this was highlighted a lot in the buildup to the game. Anyway, we won 1-0 and were six points clear at the end of the night. Man U won the treble that season but hadn't started too well if I recall rightly.

This is the away game from 1989-90. Cascarino's debut and possibly Nigel Callaghan's last appearance for Villa.

Didn't Callaghan get a game after months in the reserves and then get subbed at half time? I think he had the odd game under Venglos the next season though.
