The new squad photo is up on the OS. 24 players and 21 backroom staff, including Lambert. Also no Given (I think he was named in the 25) and if there was any doubt about his future at the club, no Nzogbia.
-
He probably picked up another injury on his way to the photo-shoot.

Almost as many staff. Can none of them coach how to defend?!
Expect us not to get any money for N'Zogbia and get landed with covering most of his wages as he goes out on-loan for the next couple of years. Great.
-
Not impressed by the treatment of N'Zogbia - rather see him in the photo than KEA. N'Zogbia can unlock a defence with his trickery - our midfield doesn't score and looks far too one dimensional.

Since 2010 it's been as though we are seeking some sort of Guinness Book of Record spot as the club that made the most wasteful transfers.
It's depressing to think of the money we have spent on such crap for such a shocking return. In fact it damn near relegated us and has left us with an average of what, six home wins a season.
-
Do they have a coach each?

N'Zog is a very talented footballer. I wish he applied himself properly to his trade.
-
He might be talented but he's also very frustrating. He can dribble but doesn't get his head up often enough to see passes, takes the ball too far or chooses the wrong pass. Even when he had a run of a few games, he couldn't last the full 90 minutes. He also has problems keeping injury-free. Not good for a top earner at the club. At least we have adopted an approach where we identify young talent, pay them a modest wage whilst they prove themselves and then reward them when it's justified - like Benteke.

When fit he would always be in my eighteen. He is someone who can change a game by coming off the bench.
-
45 in the picture!
Just compare that to the League Champions 80-81 team photo: 18
Eamonn Deacy
Ken McNaught
Nigel Spink
Jimmy Rimmer
David Geddis
Gary Williams
Jimmy Williams [Physio]
Des Bremner
Colin Gibson
Tony Morley
Gordon Cowans
Roy McLaren [Chief Coach]
Allan Evans
Gary Shaw
Ron Saunders
Dennis Mortimer
Kenny Swain
Peter Withe

I think some clever techy person ought to post that photo Mark!
-
not having Nzogbia in the photo , knocks £5 million off his price . They will know how desperate we are to sell . Dont know what Albrighton has done to deserve to be in it .
-
I though Zog was in the squad of 25 named at the start of the season.
-
if Zog is badly injured and nowhere near being able to train, I doubt that he's even in the country. If this is the case, then they probably wouldn't force him to fly over just for the photo.
-
No photocopiers in the foreground?
-
No photocopiers. Not quite the one mentioned on page 1, it's even more sparsely-populated:

A proper football team line-up.
-
Why are there so many members of staff on there?
-
It's the full Ron Saunders that photo I think!
-
I would post the one I mentioned on page 1 if some techy person could explain how I do it!
-
See 'How To...' in OT.

If you had to pick just one player out of that '81 team to be in the current squad who would it be?
Defender, midfield or attack?
Personally, I'd go with Mortimer.
-
Mortimer.
-
I agree, Mortimer. And who out of the current squad would get into the 1981 photo? For me, just Benteke. And he'd be on the subs bench, unless Withe got injured.

A modern David Geddis

I had this picture on my bedroom wall as a kid
All my mom said when she saw it was "Why are there socks ripped at the top can't they afford new ones"

Or Sid - some playmaking passes.

Ironic how everyone's forgotten how poor he was that season.
-
Alan Evans. A proper centre back. Could do with him now.
-
while we at it lets have john gidman and colin gibson at full back to.

No I recall how poor he was. His confidence was shot. I was willing him to rediscover his form though.

What are all the trophies in the 81 pic along with the obvious one?

The one in the wooden frame in front of Kenny Swain is, I think, the PFA Young Player of the Year trophy which was won by Gary Shaw. Quite why they didn't put it in front of Gary is a mystery!
-
I think the two in front of Peter Withe are The Midlands Soccer Writers Player of the Year Trophy (won by Withe) and The Midlands Soccer Writers Young Player of the Year Trophy (won by Shaw).
-
Is the Manager of the Year trophy in there as well?
-
Alan Evans. A proper centre back. Could do with him now.
I was thinking the other day about how we used to sing - in the 80s - "When Al goes up to lift the FA Cup, we'll be there, we'll be there".
Fast forward almost thirty fucking years and we still haven't won it.
-

Twenty years earlier they were singing it about Alan Deakin.

Christ I'd forgotten all about that song.
-
I remember the famous chant
"My eyes have seen the glory of the villa win the cup, 7 times we've won no one else will catch us up.................."
Loved being able to sing that at the time :'(
-
"Alan Evans Psycho Evans la la la la la"
-

No. That trophy was about 3 foot high.
