Remember going to this as a youngster. Absolutely gutted.
How we didn't get a penalty when Richardson hand balled on the line in the last minute is a mystery to this day.

Looks like the VHS conveniently died at that point.

That 1st goal from Sheedy is as bad as I remembered it from almost 30 years ago, as for Richardson's handball, it still hurts now.
I went to the home leg (a small clip from below) which was too little too late. A big turning point in Villa and Everton's fortunes at that time, I thought until then that we were a better side but we nosedived and they went on to win several trophies over the next few years.

I like that Villa kit.

I was thirteen and missed both legs with measles. I think the home leg was the only home game I missed that season. I loved the home kit that year but didn't like the away kit with the yellow hoops.

Everton fans took the piss at Villa Park by the looks of it.

Not outside they didn't. 'Some people' I was with asked a group of them where they were from. They responded (in awful cod-Birmingham accents) 'Birmingham'. When asked what part, there was a delay, then one of them said 'Wolverhampton'.
Seeing it wasn't going well, one of them said 'We've got money'. This was gratefully accepted, but sadly didn't buy safe passage.

Wow how did the ref miss that, first time I have seen it and it lives up to the folklore.

Merseyside always did have a poor rep among Geography teachers.

The away game was one of the most violent I've seen
