I didn't like it at first but I have now changed my mind.
The case for the defence is thus; firstly the tune is infectious, there is no swearing, it praises the Villa, it doesn't mention SHA, it doesn't mock a legend with a serious affliction and the song goes on and on creating a real racket.
As I say I now like it.
-
The tune is catchy but the words are shit. Why would I care about Wigan or chelsea, , and why would they care about me?
-
Just a pity the shit have been singing it for a couple of years.
-
Haven't heard our lot sing this yet, what are the words?
-
And Liverpool a couple of years before that
-
The tune is catchy but the words are shit. Why would I care about Wigan or chelsea, , and why would they care about me?
Yeah but, honestly, who gives a shit.
It strikes me that we moan and moan about what the fans sing, but ultimately, they're the ones there, making the noise.
I totally understand the point about why we'd give a shit about Wigan or Chelsea etc etc, but this evening, while they were singing it, I was sat on my arse on my sofa. I just watched the highlights and our fans made a right racket, and that's the most important thing. I'll defer to their judgment.
It's like when people ask "why are we singing about Blues?". We're singing about Blues because we loathe them, and that's what football supporters do, they sing about their own team, and they also sing about teams they don't like - that is what fans of all teams do, not just us.
The next step from moaning about that is "why do we sing that we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, when you could make an argument that we're the greatest club, but we'll be happy with finishing 8th this year, which is entirely at odds with the suggestion we're the greatest team the word has ever seen".
I honestly don't get why people moan and whine about what is being sung so much. Maybe if they were belting out the Tracy Andrews song, yes, but over something like this?
-
Took until the second half for the guy starting it in the upper tier every time to realise that we were in fact playing against Chelsea and not Arsenal tonight.

Great post.
-
The words are shit. As I think so I'll say they are. I'll be there Saturday singing but I won't be signing that as it's a crap song.
Saying I don't like a song is hardly whining and I'd appreciate you not claiming I am.
-
Sorry, I normally agree with Paulie's posts. Singing about Small Heath when we're not playing them makes us look pathetic.
-

I was not referring to you so much as the whining in general about songs that are sung when I am not there I have no right to whine about.
Apologies if it seemed I was PWS. It was more the general point.
-
It's great when I can only hear the boys on the wireless.
-
Haven't heard our lot sing this yet, what are the words?
'I don't care about ........ (Chelsea tonight), they don't care about me, all I care about is AVFC.

Nothing to apologise for Ozz, it was aimed at Paulie the big girl. Anyway, as I was at Wigan when it started he'll have to defer to my judgement ;D

It's the shite's Carson song that's where i know it from.
-
Didn't like it at first cos I knew it was a nose song...
but it's a good "tune" and for our last game of last season it was relevant to the situation....everyone bigging up Wigan's FA Cup win and many thinking IT would all come down to that one game.
I liked it on Sat and tonight because I think it sends out a message that we don't care about the Sky 4 and the media's obsession with them...WE care about US...as the fans of every club care about their own club.
My mate who follows Kiddy Harriers believes his club is more important than ManU or Chavski yet these clubs are presented by the media as being the only things that matter in football.
Unless there's a good story to be made out of them in a "potential giant-killer" cup match.
I honestly don't give a f**k about any of them....but I do care about the Villa!
-
The first time I heard it was from the mouths of those scamps down in Bordesley. You lot can carry on and good luck to you but you won't catch me singing it.
-
I still don't get it. It's a catchy song I'll grant you but the words don't really make much sense and make us seem pretty small time - on that basis it doesn't surprise me its been nicked from Small Heath.
-
I'm a traditionalist.
Whats wrong with a good old "Your gonna get your f**kin 'eads kickin in ? "
-
The idea that singing about the Noses makes us pathetic is ridiculous.
-
Took until the second half for the guy starting it in the upper tier every time to realise that we were in fact playing against Chelsea and not Arsenal tonight.
Yeah, I was stood a few places to his right and it was embarrassing. I refused to join in until it was clear we were singing about the right team. It is very infectious and causes a right racket because of the clapping that goes with it.
-
The idea that singing about the Noses makes us pathetic is ridiculous.
Agreed.
Every single club on the planet sings about their local rivals. It is just the way of football.

only two songs last night about SH, my old man followed quickly by SOTC, that's was it for the whole night

blimey, a lot of overeaction about a song. It is your choice not to sing it, but I shall as I believe any noise from the Villa faithful is better than nothing.
our song "My old man" gets a regular airing by the Mancs....
UTV
-
Thats why I like the song. Its one we can sing for five minutes straight, that children can join in with without risking being told off and its very loud.
Lots of comments on the interweb about how good our support was last night.
-
The idea that singing about the Noses makes us pathetic is ridiculous.
Quite.
I bet the majority of people complaining its from the Blosers sing SOTC.
-
I don't mind the my old man song, at least it pays tribute to three former Villa players, including one who is no longer with us. The Karen Brady one is mildly amusing. Just singing "shit on the city" or "stand up when you hate the Blues", when we're not playing them, is just sad.
If Blues or Albion are on telly I like to have a bet about how long into the game it will be before they start singing about us. Usually it happens within a minute. I like to think we're above their tedious level of obsession.
I'm not overly-bothered though. The main songs that piss me off are the McGrath on the piss song and the no respect bollocks.
Their does seem to be a tendency, not just among Villa fans, to feel that the point of singing is to annoy the opposition more than to encourage the players. I have no problem with slagging off particular scummy teams/managers/players, but is there a need for "Fulham's a shithole"? Anyhow, whinge over... for now.
-
What will we change the lyrics to for the Albion? We can hardly sing "they don't care about me"
-
The Villa fans last night were immense all the way through, I'd say less than 5% of the singing was SHA related. I agree the "We don't care about Chelsea etc..." tune is a little bit naff and I'd prefer just a constant PL Claret and Blue Army chant but I do genuinely believe the away fans are an absolute credit to the club and the best in the league. Unwavering support through thick and thin is one of the many reasons I love Villa and I think the players do respond to the fantastic positive support we offer so I'm not going to stop singing a song and sit there in silence just because it's not 100% perfect.
-
Its a crappy chant/song but at least its better than the embarrassment that is the "On the piss" thing.
I'll be sticking to my normal sarcastic comments and stupid puns as always on Saturday. I'll leave the chanting/singing to other people.
-

I don't get it, why are people so bothered?
It's like the inference us singing about Small Heath makes us small time somehow - dont people listen to away fans singing about their rivals too?
Oh, and songs to the tune of My Old Man Said have been around for decades, so people are mistaken in thinking that is a Villa original. Likewise the Paul McGrath song which was sung by Man U fans about Paul Scholes for ages.
I'd understand it if we'd nicked Keep Right On but nicking a song 15 noses have sung once or twice on a near empty lower leagues away terrace doesn't seem the same.
We've played two matches this season in both of which our fans have made a constant racket. That "all I care about" song (which includes references to the team we are playing, which is kind of the opposite to singing about Blues, so surely should go down well) seems to go on for ages, too.
Isn't that the most important thing by miles? The continual loud vocal support for the team?
-
Like it or loathe it, I think it's here to stay
-
Growing up in the middle of the last century, I remember the rather popular 'We hate Nottingham Forest...'. Plus ça change.
-
Isn't that the most important thing by miles? The continual loud vocal support for the team?
This
-
Enjoyed "Your Just a Shit Benteke" when Lukaku was warming up...
With regards to the "all I care about" song think it works really well if it includes references to the team we are playing AND the team opposition hate...
In response to "Stand up if hate Tottenham" which rang out last night - I don't care about Chelsea, I don't care Tottenham etc would have been a suitable riposte.
Or am I over thinking this....
-

If this comment was a goal it would be Savo's against Leeds at Wembley.
-
I love the 'we don't care chant' and if, as intimated in the match thread, we were also signing 'we got the special one' in relation to Lambert, even better.
I truly believe Lambert is the oustanding young manager in the league. I said at the time Rodgers went to Liverpool and Martinez stayed at Wigan that we had got the best deal in Lambert. He's the most defiant villa manager I can remember. OK, so was Gregory, but I never got that same sense with Gregory that he was totally serious about being a winner. Lambert just sweats ruthlessnes.
-
I can't predict the future but, I think history will show that Paul Lambert loves the Villa however it ends.
-
I don't care where the song came from, I don't care who thinks or doesn't think its any good. What I care about is us adding another song to what can sometimes be a rather limited "songbook" with the added bonus it can be accompanied by clapping and go on and on and on. There's nothing better than having a song you can sing over and over which really gets the atmosphere going.
However, to avoid any issues this Saturday Liverpool doesn't scan when you try and sing it, what can we use instead?

I don't care about racists, they don't care about me.

That was a highlight. Lambert must have been bursting with pride. We were bloody good last night, both on the pitch and in the stands.
-
Some people will only be happy if the crowd just sing 'The Bellls are Ringing" on a loop
-

point nailed. brilliant support at arsenal and chelsea, and a brilliant response by the team.
if you don't like a song, come up with a better one to sing.
-
It's a shame we can't come up with a song that no one else sings. We used to have such a collection in the 70's surely someone can come up with something that is unique to us, which is ours alone.
-
Some team were singing a version of 'oh lord...' on the weekend - can't remember who. I know Blackburn have a version of it. Songs are often nicked by other clubs so no need to get uppity about this one. For instance, the 'Everybody Sh*t on the City...Coz they're a load of shi-i-ite' is originally their song about us.
I've no opinion about this song by the way.
-
I don't like the I don't care song either,as I first heard the Noses sing it. That said, any song that isn't to the tune of Kumbaya gets my vote. I can't abide that shit.
-
It's been all downhill since the hardy Gooners at the Library, sang, to the tune of Sonnet by The Verve:
Yeah, he's Patrick Vieira, He drives a Sierra, My Lord,
Yeah, he's Patrick Vieira, Midfielders surrender, My Lord,

Paulie, You are spot on - every team used to sing My Old Man in the 70s. However, IIRC we had the Paul McGrath song before Manyoo had it for Scholes. It used to start with a verse of "Yes we have a friend in Jesus, yes we have a friend in God, Yes we have a friend in Jesus, and his name is Paul McGrath". Not heard that part in about 15 years.
Agree with your final comment above too - the most important thing is the vocal support.
-
By the way, what is the original tune to this song? Is it summat by a horrible boy band?

I agree, other than to add that an old guy I used to work with reckons that when he was a lad Villa fans also sang Keep Right On to the End of the Road, but without the stuff about being "off to park the van" at the start.

Me too, but this bloke was talking about the early 50s.

It is a bit different sitting in the hole in the wall (or where ever the pub is now) or Aston Social and singing songs of almost folk music genre to being in the stands and blasting out a wall of sound.
In the ground, wall of sound.
If we were to sing all the verses of Holte enders in the sky at the games everyone would be mumbling befopre the end of the 1st verse.
Instead, at every telivised game as the teams run out I hear, YIPPYE AYe AYE, brilliant this is our song.
But it does not prevent us having, other songs.
My all time favourite, a long haunting rendition of, Villa, Villa,Villa, Villa ,followed by Villa, Villa,Villa,Villa.

OK so it's a catchy tune, the lyrics are suitable for children and it's great for everyone to clap along to. It's more suited to a kindergarten than a football ground.
-
For someone with a username like yours I'm quite surprised you can't see that others may wish to exercise their right to sing what they wish just because you don't like it. As for it being suited to a kindergarten I find nowt wrong with that, theirs plenty of time for children to be exposed to the type of language we use, they'll learn it soon enough.
-
I do think there's something to be said about songs which go on for absolutely ages (as this new one seems to).
At Wembley for the MON CCC final, I remember "Martin O'Neill's Claret and Blue Army" going on for a spine tingling amount of time at one point. My dad was watching the match at home on telly and texted me to say it was deafening, and that it was very noticeable how much noisier we were than the Man U fans.

It's my all time favourite too. Has to be the slow version though. When different sections of the Vila support get slightly out of synch (and holding that long note in the middle) it turns into a wall of noise. You don't hear it often these days unfortunately.

Sheffield United Away in the 90-91 season was about the only time I remember a really good rendition in the last 25 years. If you get that slow tempo right it just rolls across the pitch in waves, as you say spine tingling.

People can sing what they like, I'm not trying to stop them. I think the song's shit. Each to their own.

Perhaps this belongs in the memories thread but, as we're discussing noise I'll put it here. Mods move if appropriate.
The greatest single wall of noise I can remember in all my years watching the Villa was when Brian Little sored his first goal against Everton in the 1977 League Cup Final replay at Old Trafford. I was stood on the opposite side of the pitch to where the cameras were and I swear to God when that ball went in the noise sounded like the loudest crack of thunder imaginable, the three of us who went together all remarked on it so it isn't imagination. Not singing I know, but Villa fans giving full voice to their feelings. It was even louder than when he got the winner.

At the risk of agreeing with everything you say, I totally agree, I love chants like this, ever since GT Claret and blue army at Everton which, if memory serves, went through half time until the final whistle, I've loved them, Once they get going (Fulham away last year) it really takes off. They say in African Mythology that when the feeling inside gets too much people sing. Jah Rastafari!!!

Fulham away last year wow, a good 20 minutes- bewildered looks on the locals faces of "wtf, their team are shite". What will it be like this year when we are hammering them?
-
Perhaps this belongs in the memories thread but, as we're discussing noise I'll put it here.
I've watched highlights of that game and the sound of the Villa fans doing that slow chant, when the game was in the balance, was awe inspiring.

In the late 60's/early 70s there would be a monotone "ohhhh" which raised in volume over a long period to a crescendo followed by more orthodox chanting.
-
The Div 2 game vs Bradford, seemed the noise never stopped second half. Seemed like every time it was dying down it would build up again and every stand would join in.
-
When you have been at Reading ,away in the cup circa 87, then Huddersfield away in the league, same season, getting pissed on by torrential rain , Hull away, same season, getting crushed in their poxy away end, Millwall away, a fine day had by all in 87 and loads more then when you hear
"Villa, Villa, Villa Villa" you just know you are safe as houses. UTV
-
Football is about fun , remember ! daft songs are part of it .
as people have said get in the social or where there are a load of old boys you will here a fantastic repertoire , some "well" most close to the knuckle .
like Most the Villa Villa chant slowly is fantastic , always look on the bright side of life as we were relegated was funny .
Just a shit beneteke to the chelsea fella , we have scored the best goal when Gary Shaw scored at Forest to make it 4-1 , i can think of loads , we also sang Dont Cry for me Aston Villa and Yesterday that game which were pretty down beat but matched our feelings at the time .
Happy Days are here again .

That was incredible at Fulham away, they looked so confused that fans could sing for so long! haha

"Yes we have a friend in Jesus, yes we have a friend in God, Yes we have a friend in Jesus, and his name is Paul McGrath".
I was singing this at the cricket, at Durham last week! A few of my mates were singing Newcastle United songs, so I gave them a solo rendition.

The atmosphere argainst Chelsea was even better. If we'd have scored, ear drums would have been ruptured.
That's why I like this song. I can see it doing a good length of time at an away game at some point this season. Everybody always remembers "Big Fat Ron's Claret n' Blue army" going on, and on, and on, and on... and on, and on. And on. At Highfield Road.
It was a great following on Wednesday. Good numbers and great vocal backing, in large part down to an inoffesive song.
This isn't NME, what's not to like?
-
Also, remember, when we go to the Shrine of Sandwell to play the Bitters, it should be;
"We don't care about Albion
But they care about me
All they care about
Is AVFC!".
-
I don't care about Albion
They obsess about me
All I care about, is AVFC
Incidentally, I've had BFR Claret n Blue army in my head all day!
-
I remember getting right on my dad's wick at that game, clapping in his ear for what must have been well over half an hour straight.
Big Fat Ron's Claret and Blue Army!

I like the one at Norwich in the Cup last season when the clap clap clap clap was reinforced with A! V! F! C!
Tried to get it going a couple of times at home but it never caught on

I saw a youtube clip from Wednesday night and was surprised to hear a very loud rendition of 'I ho, I ho, it's up the Holte we go' which brought back some memories. I also saw a few lads trying to gets 'The Bells are ringing' going. I hope it takes off in the near future, especially the way the team are playing. I have wonderful memories of it being sang on the Sutton Lions Club coach continuously for five hours after a midweek away win at Norwich.
-
The I ho song got a very loud rendition at Arsenal too.

League Cup quarter-final 1984? It was even better at the game. The hey-day of the Villa arse-slasher.

Great. Keep it up lads.

Vocal support is exactly what it says on the tin !!!!

Yup, 1984. We played them 3 times in a week. The Villa never fail to amaze me, having played them at Carrow Road the week before, we took thousands there and you're right, it did sound better at the game.
What's this Villa arse-slasher all about?

Let's not go there.

The only problem I have with the song is that I don't care if they don't care about me.

Plus a few singing 'Knees up Mother Brown". That took me back a very long time.

My favourite too.

One I remember for the old Aston Tavern back in the day.
Bring on Arsenal or United
Bring on scousers by the score
Barcelona, Real Madrid they all make a gallant bid.
But they wont beat the Villa any more
Does anyone else remember this?

I remember this as :-
Bring on Manchester United
Bring on the Spaniards by the score
Barcelona Real Madrid
They’ll all make a gallant bid
But they won’t beat The Villa anymore
Anymooooooorrreeeeeeeeeeee
Anymoorrrreeeeee
And they won’t beat The Villa anymore
Brilliant

Everyone to their own, all opinions valid, but personally I don't like the song, I don't like the greatest team in the world song (sung by any team, even if they are) and I don't sing about the blues, apart from my old man, because I don't care. I will say however that the childish side of me did used to enjoy the 'Karen Brady is a fucking slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag'
-
I just don't care.
-
Singing rags songs - I'm afraid it's a no from me. Sounds like a dirge on the tv (on hols at the moment).
-
Its not even a Small Heath song, its an FC United song

Remember it well, though with "scousers" replaced by "Spaniards"
.......and I went to the match yesterday & the "I don't care" song has wormed its way into my ear. I'm in favour of it, catchy and family friendly
-
This song keeps the atmosphere going at the back of the Holte and I must say I enjoyed just making a racket!
It seems to have caught on with female Villans - one behind me was very engaged with it and there was another walking up Trinity Road after the match shouting it at anyone she thought might be a scouser
-
Just a pity the shit have been singing it for a couple of years.
When I went to watch them a season or two ago (it's a long story) they were singing this song about Carson. It seemed really appropriate unlike when we sing it about Liverpool. Just be glad we don't have a conman as an owner to sing the song about.
-

Not the first they have nicked off them. Mind you, FC do have a printed songbook like those at OT. Typical whining Manc song.
-
everyone will have there story about where the paul mcgrath song came from. the original one was from " we have found a friend in jesus we have found a friend in god" but the version we sing started just off wembley way 1994 v man utd. we came out of st josephs social club drunk as skunks me my son mark and mates danny, pete and paul sabell(r.i.p).
then we bumped into a salvation army band that was playing the tune to we have found a friend in jesus song and we all joined in.the next tune they played was the cum-by-yar my lord cum-by-yar,and all of a sudden paul dropped in the words paul mcgrath my lord paul mcgrath and the whole band and choir was singing it with us and thats how the song was born. paul is a holte ender in the sky now but he left us with that song.

St. Joseph's Social Club is where we drank before the finals in 94, 96 and 2000. Good times!
-

One of my favourites too. The rendition against Everton in 77 LC final springs to mind.
-
It seems like a tune that can go on for a bit of time adding to the atmosphere and enabling everyone to join in. I'm all for it.
-
Its actually an FC Utd song, first sung about 7 years ago when they first started, "I don't care about Rio'
Very good song an apt for the cause they were fighting
-
I loved the rendition of "New York" to Dwight after we had won the cup versus Leeds at Wembley - a whole sea of claret and blue in unison
-
I loved the rendition of "New York" to Dwight after we had won the cup versus Leeds at Wembley - a whole sea of claret and blue in unison
I also love the fact that he sat in the dressing room after the game holding the League Cup singing it himself at the top of his voice, apparently.
-
brazilian villain you are right what great times in 94-96 and 2000 in st josephs i have about 10-15 photos of everyone in there i will scan em up and post under this thread as soon as i sort em out

That's the one. I can hear it ringing round the new Aston Tavern in years to come. We might have to slow it down by about 5 times mind you...
