"Have you seen ma midfield? Five foot four they are. How can they bully anyone?" (http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/teams/aston-villa/8880201/lambert-players-deserve-more-credit)
Possibly discussed elsewhere but 44 seconds in. That could be my quote of the season so far!
-
Brilliant!
He's absolutely right. The Arse don't like it when teams get in their faces and close them down. That's all we did. What are we supposed to do, let them pass it round us?
Wenger really boils my piss sometimes.
-
I currently have so much man love for Lambert.
-
We were robust a lucky the ref was fair. Lambert is the man.
-
Well said Lambert.
Poor Arsenal,we did not roll over and marvel at their wonderful football, so we must have bullied them.
-
Football is not just about passing and scoring goals, there are other things that Arsenal know nothing about :)
-
The quote is made 10 times better when coupled with the extreme look of disdain for the suggestion/question.
-

This.
I think I'm now starting to forgive him for his match winning performances in the 1987 and 1991 Scottish Cup Finals against Dundee United.
-
Poor Arsene has always come across as a bit paranoid, but this is ridiculous! He's just trying to deflect attention away from his own, increasingly obvious shortcomings - fuck 'im!
Lambert has the the perfect reaction to him!
-
Unsure about this myself.
On one hand it's nice he's defending the team but on the other I wouldn't exactly feel on top of the world if I was a midfielder being described as 'have you seen him, he's 5 foot 4, how can he bully anyone?'
-

It's hardly a dig.
-
It's almost as if Wenger was in total disbelief about the fact we tonked them.
" How dare they fight and put 110% effort in against us, the mighty, top 4 Arsenal."
Go away Wenger and only show your rubber, Spitting Image face again when you can be a bit more gracious in defeat.
P.S, i really hope Mourinho has the same look on his face tonight. That would be nice. Then by the time we play the Bindippers on Saturday Brendan Rogers will be on his second bottle of prozac. Just a dream.

I know it's not a dig per se but you could argue he made them sound like wimps.
-
Arsene expected to win this one without too many problems. Their fanbase are expecting name signings and not getting them. Therefore its the managers fault. However he's got through these situations before and no doubt he will again.
We however are looking positive. Lets hope the team keep it going against Chelsea and Liverpool.
-
No, he made them sound like high-quality footballers that do not have to resort to underhand tactics.
-
Wenger is a twat, if he thought his players were getting bullied there is no wonder he's won nothing for 8 years, he's lost it
-
All this hyperbole about Arsenal losing a football match.
Long may it continue. It's hilarious.
-
Wenger seems to forget that Vieira got in people's faces as well. It was also the last time Arsenal had a decent midfield.
-
When we were doing well and really threatening a top 4 finish under MON, Fergie said some nice things about us. Why? Because he's a patronising old bastard and didn't see us as a real threat. If we had lost Saturday, Wenger wouldn't have said a word about the way we played.
These blokes having a go at us is the greatest compliment you can have.
-
Wenger also seems to forgotten all the fouls committed by his own side prior to our first penalty. After that, they were simply a shambles.
-
If that's bullying, what is Stoke's version? Mind you I think he's moaned about them before. Wenger just expects opposing teams to stand and admire his team's tippy-tappy passing game - twat! Villa got it spot-on with their pressing and harrying game. Arsenal should get rid of him - he's as hesitant as MON used to be in the market resulting in mainly last minute panic buys at inflated prices/wages. I'm so glad Lambo got his business done early to allow players time to integrate with new surroundings, language, team mates etc.,
-
did I read somewhere that Arsenal have more Premiership red cards than any other team ?
when Wenger is whining, you just know we rattled him.

We've no idea what he's saying to them day in, day out in training though (although we can take an estimated guess). I would imagine those words would carry a lot more weight with the players than a humorous off-the-cuff remark to the press.
-
Bullying is what Viera tried to do that once in the tunnel to Gary Neville, and then shit himself when Keane put him straight.
-
Just imagine if Okore and Sylla had played as well.....
-
At one point under Wenger they had the dirtiest side in the league. They'd regularly be at the wrong end of the disciplinary table. This conversely was the last period in time they actually used to win things. They used to have players like Adams, Keown and Viera just knocking seven shades out of the opposition.
And for Arsene to think that his side isn't dirty still, just because they apparently play football as the god of football intended, is also a crock of shit. They were just as "dirty" as us in the game. Who gave away two penalities Arsene? Who had a man sent off Arsene?
Yeah, just as I thought.
A whinier bunch of tossfucks you'll be hard pressed to meet. I've lost any sort of respect I had for Wenger years ago.
-
Wenger will blame anyone and everyone for an arsenal defeat - except himself!

Oh, but that was because the ref was biased too.
It was the perfect storm really. Opposition bullys, a biased ref, and not being as good as the team they were playing.
It's just so unfair.

Just for Wenger.
-
I thought the other reavealing comment from Lambert was how he felt that our players weren't really getting the credit they deserved for turning Arsenal over. I believe he was hinting at the fact that whilst the various media have certainly been (briefly) complimentary about us beating them, by far the lion's share of the coverage has been devoted to Arsenal's shortcomings and ongoing crisis status. I guess I shouldn't really be surprised - they're the "mighty" Arsenal and we're "just" Aston Villa.
-
My f@@kin blood is boiling.
The press, sky pundits, Wenger all think because they are Arsenal, they deserve to win against the teams from the lower echelons of the league.
Well f@@k right off...
Watching soccer am before the game, mr Redknapp said he could only see an Arsenal win.
Later on SNF he mentioned that Villa had basically got a result they would never have imagined getting.
How about watching the full match and seeing a Villa side work there socks off in all departments and also outplaying the gunners in all departments. The attacking threat was outstanding and Arsenal basically could not cope with us.
The papers were all about how Wenger should have spent his money and injury problems, what about how Villa made them look like a poor premier league team.
Now Wenger thinks we are bullies, grow up, get some man balls and admit you were outplayed by a better team you cock jockey.
It may have been the first game of the season, but I for one thouroughly believe PL got his tactics spot on and glad to see his team starting to reap the rewards.
And on a final note, nice to see on MOD that they thought Villa played well rather than rattle on about Wengers excuses.
Now let's do the same to Chelsea, bet if we do, Mourinho won't cry like a little bitch.
-

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
-
I seem to remember him having a similar moan when we drew with them at VP in the MON years. He always used to get a bee in his bonnet about the blues as well. And don't get him started on Stoke. We won't be the last team he whines about this season. As for a previous poster saying he has lost the plot, having seen his CL press conference last night it is hard to disagree. If he carries on like he is his press conferences will be more fun than Joe Kinnear's.
-
I watched his rant in his press conference in turkey last night and he seems to be losing the plot - he will alienate the gunners fans even more if he continues in that high and mighty tone - needs to address a few issues of his own making.
-
It's ludicrous to suggest our players were dirty. They had to make two subs due to injury IIRC. Gibbs went off after a clash of heads, which Weimann played on from. Nobody in the wrong, just an accident. For me, the more dangerous person in the Luna v Chamberlain was the ox, Yet he came off worse. Again, not our players fault. I was baffled as to why he got booked to be honest. It's not like our players came out unscathed either as Baker was injured.
-
I have never liked Arsenal .
every time I speak to football fans ( non Villa ) , they say I really like arsenal thou , that's the way to play football .
I always say back . Wengers is the biggest moaning bad losers cnut out there . I dont like him , nor his team.

This will all change if Villa continue to do well. Mr Rednapp will be saying "I had a feeling Villa would surprise a few people this year and they have" etc etc

He'll inevitably be quoted from his car window too.

I quite like Arsenal really (because they're not Spurs), and Wenger's just trying to do what every manager does when they lose - deflect attention from his losing players with some excuse. He's hardly unique in this.
Oh, and he's right about Stoke. Pulis should be prosecuted for incitement to violence, the way he sent his teams out.

Just before his mobile rings with Kevin bond as chauffeur grinning like a Cheshire Cat :)

I have to disagree with you there. It is ONLY about scoring goals! (but I know what you mean)

Agreed...
I watched this twice on Sunday and couldn't stop laughing...

I imagined it, in fact I predicted it from the day the fixtures were released. I would imagine our manager and players imagined it as well.
Anyone who has watched the Premier League for the last few years will know that while a result such as this is unlikely at Newton Heath or Chelsea, it is always a possibility at a club who refuse to acknowledge their misgivings.
Tremendous fun.

I used to have begrudging respect for Arsenal in Wenger's early years when he mixed great scouting and a sound strategy on the pitch. They would literally dominate teams in all aspects in pace, power and creativity. Most of that seems to be gone and they are a shell of what they used to be and on the pitch and resemble all of the negatives of their manager off it. Whining, complaining and never being accountable for their own failings. Very few clubs have what they have, and they continuously spurn the opportunity to make best use of it. They have crossed the grey line between financial responsibility and that required to compete on a regular basis to operating by way of paranoia. Wenger has gotten to the point of overanalysing everything and procrastinating that they repeatedly miss the point of why they even exist.

Remember martin Keown treating Van Nistelrooy with respect!
-
Who was it that keown wound up and when the guy stepped towards him keown shit himself and screamed ? Was that keown or winter burn I'm thinking of?
-

Spot on, Pete.
Arsenal set the tone for the game in those first 20 minutes, where they bullied our midfield. I was really concerned at the aggressive approach from Arsenal and the fact the referee was letting them get away with it. It was strange to see an Arsenal side revert to that type of play as their strength is to play with the ball. What Wenger had said to them before kick off we can only guess but they certainly came out kicking and fouling.
Once we matched them the game got very ragged and it was no surprise 10 yellow cards were dished out. If they'd sticked to what they're best at they probably would have comfortably beaten us. They weren't bullied, they were out fought, out thought and we were out of there with a deserved 3 points.
-
Remember martin Keown treating Van Nistelrooy with respect!
He gave a car load of us the finger when he was driving behind us on the way to the Everton game on the last day of the '89-'90 season. Although it is possible that we provoked him a tad.
-

It was Winterburn and Di Canio after the ref pushing incident.

Thanks - yes that was it - classic!

I heard one of the pundits over the weekend say that refs had agreed with the clubs to be a little less fussy with aggressive, but fair, challenges. It seems we were just better at it than they were.

An odd place to put it, but as we are talking Arsenal, I detest Wilshire.
Diving, cheating, whining little bitch that he is.
-
Wenger is a massive bellend on borrowed time, a lot of Arsenal fans think the same.

I've written a piece on exactly this subject, which can be found here (plug while we're waiting for the football to start!):
"There was nothing to suggest the improved Villa won because of brutality. They have simply learned the art of standing up for themselves..."

Wenger is talking rubbish, of course. It strikes me though that he and Arsenal have been moaning about sides being 'too physical' for years. Surely he would be better off coming up with a plan B, rather than just moaning all the time.

Could you please not post links to exterior articles until the request by Sean has been dealt with. Thank you.

Arsenal are increasingly irritating I find. Their whole stance these days seems to be that they are the keepers of the sacred flame when in reality they are more like Tesco trying to make out that they're Holland and Barrett.
