A sad plea really. Anyone remember Ron Saunders having a blanket draped over him in the dugout? I am after a photo if anyone has such a thing as I am trying to prove to a young whippersnapper of a fan who doesn't believe this would have happened. Thanks.

I will dig out the book "The Ron Saunders Scrap Book" and scan a picture if it's in there.
-
Just had a look and there isn't one in either Weir & Wonderful of the RS Scrapbook. I'm sure i've seen footage of Ron on the bench with his blanket, might have been on the Champions DVD. Which can be viewed here.
-
I can picture that photo. Roy McLaren is next to him and someone at their side is bending down.

Yep the image I have has Roy next to him. I'm sure it was on a DVD that I saw it.
-
The more I think about it, I am sure I remember it during the Villa v Blues game of the Championship season - the camera panned to Withe on the bench suspended sure Ron had his blanket on.
-
I think it was on the History video.
-
yes and is that obtainable in DVD Form?

Is it the Southampton game? I can picture him with Peter Withe on the bench as well.
-
The old Trinity Road stand would be awash with tartan blankets for winter matches and Ron definitely played his part! :)

I have seen it on a DVD too. I'm thinking either the champions one or the big match one. Blankets for managers were quite popular back in the day. I think I saw 'Big Mal' with one on the big match revisited recently. I seem to remember SGT with one in his Watford days as well. Not surprising really, as the Watford bench was exposed to the elements in those days. It seemed to be in between a stand and the pitch which appeared to be in different postcodes.

Sir Graham refused to have a roof on the dugout while there was still an open terrace.

Ta da. It is from the Villa Vs small heath game 75/76. The game where Kenny Burns tried to cripple Robson.

And the obvious question - who's that to the left of Andy Gray?

Is it a very young Colin Gibson?

I thought that at first, but he would only have been 15.

Didn't sign until 1979.

Time for some serious thinking then!!

Players who played for the first team that season and weren't in that match that I haven't ruled out included Keith Masefield , Frank Pimblett, Bobby McDonald & John Overton.

I don't think it's Bobby McDonald but this picture might help http://www.dijitalimaj.com/alamyDetail.aspx?img=%7B48233F7D-14F7-4006-8AF4-DD212EB9E356%7D

Gavin Price?

Never mind the blanket, never mind who was sat next to A*** G***. How about Brian's goal, and is there more footage of that era available to post up?
-
Thanks PWS. Great find.

Wonder what happened

Keith Masefield, that is a name I had totally forgotten. Thought he was going to be a real good player

My Nan didn't have photo frames of uncle so and so or cousin this or that. She had Brian Little. Andy Gray was there too, later. Quality. Posey Close by the reservoir.
I remember it well!

I may be mixed up here, but am I right in remembering coming back from FA Cup game midweek on a freezing night at Notts County after winning 6-0 to be told sir Ron had left the club. I was back there ten days later and we lost 1-0 if I recall correctly.
-
Is it Mike Pejic next to Andy Gray?

When Geddis scored a couple then.

He left the following month.

I thought it was John Overton but he was playing for the reserves at Albion that day (presumably 3.00 ko) so it looks like it is Frank Pimblett, who wasn't in action.
