Title: Villa in Germany Pre-Season Friendlies
Post by: Rob Gee on June 03, 2013, 08:37:14 PM
Based on previous seasons' trip abroad when would we expect to hear about ticket arrangements for our matches abroad and will it be through the club or direct from the ticket office of the teams we are playing??

Hoping to match up a trip to Germany with our games on the 12th and 14th of July....

The ticket office haven't got any news about tickets yet, but I can't imagine it being a problem. We're hardly likely to sell our allocation and even if we do there should be home tickets on sale on the day.

Rödinghausen is very remote though it does have hotels and B&Bs. The station (Bieren-Rödinghausen) is a mile and a half from the ground and the town's a further 2 miles. Unfortunately, the last train leaves a few minutes before the match ends, but it would get you back to the major towns like Dortmund and Bochum.

I'm just going to the Bochum game and have got a cheap flight from Gatwick to Düsseldorf. There's a direct train from the airport station to Bochum (35 minutes)

I have a friend who is a massive Villa fan living in Germany. He can go to the Bochum game but wants to be surrounded by Villa. What part of the ground should he be looking at ???

Are any of you going to the SC Paderborn game on the 12th? My girlfriend's parents live 40 minutes away so we're thinking about getting tickets in the Nord Tribüne E Gäste (away) standing. Do you think many Villa fans will be going to that game?

A smallish party of the German Villans will be there and there will certainly be some travelling fans. You won't be on your own!

That's good to hear Frank! I'm taking my German girlfriend along to see her first ever Villa game so I don't fancy chanting on my own.

I'll be at all three, Frank. The offer still stands to take you from HD for any or all of them, if you need it.

Thanks, Tim. In fact, my Heidelberg trip has been moved a week earlier, which is why I'm able to go to the Bochum game, but I won't be at the other 2. I look forward to seeing you in Bochum

I think you'd find it hard to beat that price elsewhere. The downside is that from Weeze you take the shuttle bus to the station, then a train to Krefeld, where you change to another train for Bochum, total journey time 2 hours. Paderborn's 3½ hours.

I'm fortunate enough to be living close to Bochum (15 minutes train ride) - has anyone got a rough idea how many will be standing?

Standing: E1 Seats: D. Methinks standing, like the good ol' days!  :)

If Bremen last year is anything to go by, most of the away supporters will opt for the standing area

That's great to hear! I was a season ticket holder in the mid - late 80s when the Holte was standing. It's pretty good now but was immense back then!!

By train Hannover is over 2 hours from Bochum and Düsseldorf just over half an hour. There's a train from D'dorf airport station direct to Bochum

I'm in as well for the Bochum game. Hotel booked near Bochum City Centre, up there for two days. Anything worth doing/visit there?

Not really. The place reminds me of Walsall although it has been many years since I was last there. There are lots of other towns nearby Dortmund or Duisberg to name but two. You will have more luck there.

The Rödinghausen game is the fly in the ointment regarding travel. We are looking at two options; come back in a taxi or hire a car. The latter will have an adverse effect on beer consumption, at least before the game.

Option 3, Jon: Christian from the German Villans will drive you to Melle station after the game

Very kind of Christian to offer, Frank but had just made alternative arrangements.

Just enjoying a couple if well deserved beers in the hotel.

For those going to Bochum, the Bermuda Triangle seems to be the place to go before and after the game. Seems very lively.

Can't see it posted ( not sure how to start a thread). Premier doing a fantastic Ireland trip for around
£170, flights, two nights, finishing off with a night with God and Taylor (Moor Greens finest).

Anybody in Bochum already, are there any storage lockers in the main railway station? The local kick off time and the hotel check in time is a little problem!
In hope!

Thank you Frank, that is much appreciated, I could not find anything on the internet.

I did find a nice article and photograps on the VfL Bochum website, their fans reminiscing on the trip to Villa Park in 1980.

It's at times like this that I realise I can read and understand more German than I could ever understand when I hear it, if that makes sense!
Enjoyed reading the article, anyway.
