If they win tonight, I reckon we might get a draw.

If someone had told me after getting thumped by these lot back in December that if we could beat them in May, we would stay up, I would have thought they were barking mad. However, what a massive difference confidence can play with a team and supporters.
Thats why I'm going for a clean sheet with a 1-0 Villa victory. :)

We go into the game with pretty much all of the pressure taken off us. It is not a 'must win' game, unlike the last few we have played.
They will give us space and allow us to play, so I think we could give them a real game

2-2

I reckon 4-1, these guys will be wrapped in cotton wool. Benteke, Gabby and Andi to make it 3-0. Some scrote for them. Then a last minute corner, Terry Sideshow Bob and Cahill will be marking Benteke, leaving space at the near post where Guzan has run up to soar like a pegasus, to make a rocket header into Fat Franks belly, knocking him and the ball into the back of the net. Sky will obviously report this as Lampard breaks Chelsea goal scoring record

I'd love to get a result to see us mathematically safe but I think Chelsea will have enough to see us off again even if they rest some players. We'll score but we can't keep a clean sheet so they'll score more. 2-3 to them.

It's a shame the weather forecast doesn't look promising.  There's no better sight walking to a football ground in May as you approach St Peters Church with the Cherry Blossom in full bloom.  It should be our first full house too as 41,000 tickets have been sold already.  I want a win, we need some pay back.

Quite frankly, my hatred of these unspeakables has caused me to make any team they play my 2nd team.

Best case scenario would be for them to lose to spuds this evening, then we beat them with a controversial goal, causing them to miss out on a champions league spot and then they are blown away in the Europa Final. Shortly after Morinho royally shafts them by taking over ManUre as rudolph announces his retirement on the last day.

With our fans rocking Villa Park, we will win 2-1.

A lot will depend on how much the Europa final is playing on their minds.  They'll say the league is their priority and they might be sincere but winning that final will mean a lot to Benitez and there's a good chance that will affect the players.
Title: Re: Aston Villa vs Chelsea Pre-Match Thread
Post by: peter w on May 09, 2013, 09:44:08 AM
I think this will be a better game for lowton and Bennett. They don't play with wingers crossing the ball and anyone forward player out wide usually look to cut in. That should suit our style of play and won't see Lowton and esoecially bennett isolated. They look to get overlapping full-backs - as do we - but our front 3 threat should negate that by counter-attacking as soon as they lose the ball.

If they score early and get on top then we may struggle to get back into it as we'll need to chase it. But they need the 3 points (as of course do we) so if its 0-0 (yeah right) they will have to push on more so creating more space and opportunities for us. They're last game is at home against Everton whilst Arsenal and Tottenham have two relatively 'easier' games to overtake Chelsea.

They will come at us with a full strength team and are likely to take the points. But, knowing how they play, if we can avoid conceding early (or at all would be nice) this could be set up nicely for us.

Agree Peter.  If they play Hazard and Oscar they won't have the type of pace out wide that seems to trouble our full-backs (even though Hazard and Oscar are top players).

A loss last night and I would have expected a strong team Saturday and us to lose.  A win and it's the reserves and I'd then fancy us to win.  So what does a draw do?

I think it's 3 points to secure top 4 and they have Everton at home last day.  Benitez will want another trophy on his CV, so will he gamble a little?  A lot of ifs and maybes attached to this game now.

Fuck it though - Villa 2-1 and Benteke to smack the shite out of Terry!!

I think we'll get a result. Not sure we'll win it. I don't see a clean sheet either. I'm hoping Ferninny Torres plays as he couldn't hit a barn door with an Emile. Catching them on the break is key. Gabby can score against anyone, as he's proven over the years, so I fancy him to get one. Tekkers owes the Chelski backline a nightmare. Luiz needs to be targeted. We need to get Gabby at JT as well.

2-2. Gabby and Tekkers.

Im going for a win.  My wife was born in Chelsea, and she hates going to this fixture, as when she does, we win.  Shes coming to the game.  I think ours is the only ground that Jose went to as a Premiership ground that he didnt record a win at.  And he is much better than FSW.  Chelsea look good going forward, but that final is playing on their mind, and switched off a few times last night, perfect for our forward line.  3-2 win

Think we'll score (we always have goals in us now) but they are likely going to score more. We need to seriously sort out the centre half issue this summer because if we can tighten up at the back, that would be worth 15 points right there which would put us in the top half of the table.

We'll be safe - Wigan wont win at Arse either which way

Only one thing is fairly certain - Chelsea will score. I hope we'll score more but alas, this one goes to Chelsea.

I still hope, though - it would be amazing to see John Terry jump up and down furiously after Gabby's third goal of the day. :D

Chelsea could rest a few and lose this game knowing that they will still still be ahead of spurs going into the last game whatever happens - it just means they would probably have to beat everton on the last day at the bridge to confirm champions league - i think benitez will take this gamble and expect him to make at least 6 changes on Saturday.

Only 1500 tickets left.

Villa v Chelsea is now heading for a huge, bumper crowd - with only 1,500 tickets available for the Blues clash.

Seats have been snapped up in great numbers over the past few days with the 'Sold Out' signs set to go up at Villa Park in advance of kick-off.

Ticket Office chiefs were predicting 41,000 earlier in the week but that has now increased.

It should be quite some occasion, with Villa looking to retain their Premier League status and Chelsea aiming for Champions League qualification.

The final home game has also been enhanced with the news that Stan Petrov will lead the walk of appreciation on the final whistle.

It should be emotional and, clearly, fans want to be there to watch a great game of football and pay tribute to a great professional and great man.

Do not delay if you want a ticket for this big game because you could end up disappointed.

Snap up your tickets - on general sale - now by contacting 0800 612 0970, buying online or popping into either Villa Village or New Street.

Paul Lambert's men will be eager to end the home campaign in style with a win over the Blues.

Their determination is two-fold - to move further away from the dreaded dropzone and also to avenge the hammering suffered at the hands of Rafa Benitez's team during the festive period.

Lambert's Lions felt the full force of the former champions that day and they will be out for blood in the return fixture.

There is always a party atmosphere on the final fortress encounter and this should be no exception, especially if Villa can pick up a valuable three points.

The atmosphere in the 6-1 win over Sunderland was wondrous, with fans screaming their approval.

Lambert will be hoping for more of the same from this extremely difficult clash as Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres and Petr Cech come to town.

Ticket prices are £25 to £45 [adults], £22 to £45 [concessions], £19 to £40 [U16s], £15 to £40 [U8s] and £35 to £40 [adult/junior combo ticket].

The match takes place on Saturday May 11 with kick-off at 12.45pm.

I was thinking along the same lines then recalled our Barcelona game when they took of Cryuff thinking job done.
Those that play second half will pretty much know they're not going to play in the final, so won't give a shit.

Oh and Jimbo, can you continuously slag off Gabby again in the Match thread. It works a treat. ;)

If we can give them significantly more of a game than we did last time we met, and get a draw, I'll be satisfied with the confirmation of the progress we've made since that disastrous and humiliating day last December.
Title: Re: Aston Villa vs Chelsea Pre-Match Thread
Post by: SoccerHQ on May 09, 2013, 09:55:23 PM

Moses will play, he ripped us apart at Stamford Bridge, hopefully Mata is rested as he is a real class act.

Surprised people are dreading this game, it's not like we're one point below Wigan or anything. Would imagine there will be a carnival atmosphere on Saturday and I reckon the players will have a right good go at putting December 23rd right as the pressue has been lifted by Wigan fcuking up on Tuesday.

Yes both will start as will Moses and Terry I suspect. Maybe Benayoun aswell but Chelsea fans hate him by association to Rafa so that would be a negative one.

Ruud Gullit's love child Nathan Ake might have a chance of a first start aswell.

They can't bring themselves to speak the truth - ie that their megalomaniac chairman sacked the saintly RDM, and he's the one who deserves the stick - so they take it out on Benitez.

I don't particularly like him, but considering he's been parachuted into that fucking snakepit on a going-nowhere contract, to deal with players who clearly think they run things themselves, he's done a really excellent job, and kept his dignity while doing it.

 I can see us winning 3 - 2, Benteke 20 (please, during Stan's minute),  50, Westwood 80. Nando 55, Ba 85.

Both of our scorers to reveal Support Stan T shirts under their shirts when they score.

4-2 to Villa.

We will be 1-0 and 2-1 down but it will be 2-2 by half time. We are going to score an early goal in the second half and then Sideshow Bob will be sent off after bringing down Gabby who goes past him for the tenth time. Chelski with their ten men will press for an equaliser and we will catch them on the break in the 82nd minute.

Scorers - Benteke 2, Weimann & Gabby.

for all our good play in recent weeks the defending can be a worry and Bennett main offender.
Chelsea were targeting spurs lb on wed and will prob do same. I fear we will concede a penalty as chelsea have had 9 given zero conceded. In fact they had most in league. Whilst we have conceded most in league - 7. Maybe we ll get one also then ?! as they will have to concede a penalty by seasons end in all fairness! You know when managers say it even itself over a season well lets have a penalty against chelsea !!  In this match 2-1 victory. Out of 10 wins we ve won 6 by 1 goal. And out of 7 chelsea defeats they lost 5 by 1 goal. As they only failed to score in 5 games and we ve only kept a clean sheet in 5 games they ll get a  goal - and that's a penalty concede by bennett or though its bakers turn.... So  we'll get one pen dispatched by benteke and gabby with the other.

Lichaj's a bit like Herd. He's the sort who can come in for the odd game and look decent like last week.

The problem is when he starts 5-6 games in a row like over xmas and teams start specifically targeting him, especially the top ones.

We've got goals in us so I expect us to score tomorrow.

Sending you a PM which may be of help.

1 ticket left in A5 according to the online seating map.

I just looked for a mate and there is one left in P1 and one left in A8.

Now showing as 1 in A8 and another in A2

Just put all the money in my Ladbrokes account on a Villa win. 10/3. I really think we'll win. We aren't the soft touches that got hammered at their place, I can see us going ahead and staying ahead. I don't bet on Villa a lot as it is a heart rather than head bet but I think we'll do them tomorrow.

Really want at least a draw tomorrow. Would be great to seal our premiership safety on the last home match when Stylian Petrov bows out with his recovery looking positive. Would of been a lot easier with him in the team ..........

The on line seating thing isn't 100 per cent accurate/ updated
I looked this morning for 3 tickets together anywhere, and there was nothing available with the online planner.
I decided to just get myself one ( first game in 2 years since giving up my season ticket) and having ordered it went to VP to pick it up 20 mins later

The guy in front of me asked if he could get three seats together and he got them no problem.

So it's worth asking !!

With a Villa mate. He started  singing (young bordeaux, and a few local ales to blame) to the old yellow submarine  tune of last year : staying up- staying up  etc- - the Blues went down but we are staying up".

I miss that song.

Can we have it tomorrow please. Thanks. Need the arm exercise.

Benitez will taget Bennet. Wish we had an alernative LB. Think Bennet could of done with a miss in this game ........
We have heard that the back four is:
Lichaj, Vlaar, Baker and Stephens.

3-1 us. Not necessarily what I think it'll be, but as my regular recent prediction, it's grabbed us at least a point.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's because, like most of us 1) You're probably not expecting any points from this game, and 2) We aren't as desperate for them as we were a week ago.

I hope so, Felix.

A nice, quiet draw to almost end the season. That would do nicely.

Hi Paulie I have to agree with you. I think it'll be 1-1 Benteke will score for us, for Chelsea Lampard. Felix
