Title: The Masters 2013
Post by: Rotterdam on April 09, 2013, 12:47:08 PM
Can Tiger do it?
Will Westy look good then collapse?
Could Rory have another blow out?

I'm on Stricker, Stenson, Dufner and Kuchar.

"I'm on Stricker, Stenson, Dufner and Kuchar"

That sounds like some serious medication.  Hope you get better.

I'm curious to see how the 14 year old Chinese kid gets on, phenomenal achievement to qualify.

He had a practice 9 holes with TW today. I think he will be eaten alive by the course, but what an honour...

Got money on Snedekar, Rose, Poulter and Kuchar.

God bless him but how do old no hopers like Sandy Lyle, on the back of what he did 25 years ago, keep getting invited back when there are plenty of good players who might compete get excluded.

All apart from Laird par or better. Ida have certainly taken that at the start of the day.

Cough, er, I meant he would rather well for a young lad playing in a massive tournament and on a very tough course.

Just the same way that 60 odd year old Tom Watson no-hoper got invited back to the Open a couple of years back.

Well surprise surprise the committee fail to disqualify Woods for cheating.

He knew damn well what he was doing & should have taken himself out of the competition, I do hope he blows up today.

I've a couple of mates who work in sports PR, they would have advised him to have left 'under his own steam' - as a PR exercise it would of been worth much more.

As a golfer myself - he should have been DQ'ed. He broke the rules. End of.
Conspiracy? - I think Nike, The Masters and CBS may have had an input along with the Masters committee bottling it.

He dropped the ball in the wrong place, it was further away rrom the hole than it should have been but this could have been an advantage to him. In years gone by he would have been automatically disqualified but a new by law came in in the last couple of years giving the officials discretion in this sort of incident.

In my personal opinion, if it would have been anyone else, including a 14 year old lad, he would have been disqualified.

Hmm not quite, he should have been disqualified for signing the card with an incorrect score actually, the fact he took the advantage should have been penalised with a self imposed 2 shot penalty, the fact he didn't record that on his scorecard and signed for a lesser score is the reason to disqualify.  A professional golfer & his caddy not being familiar with one of the simpler rules of golf is incredible naive or incredibly stupid.
Title: Re: The Masters 2013
Post by: Rotterdam on April 14, 2013, 01:14:15 PM
The rule came in recently on the back of an incident with Paddy Harrington in Dubai. The discretion came in due to the players and in this situation TW's lack of knowledge with the rules. Theoretically, he signed for the wrong score, but he was unaware of the rule so it was changed from a potential DQ to a two shot penalty.

I need Kuchar/Furyk to shoot a 65.
Title: Re: The Masters 2013
Post by: taylorsworkrate on April 14, 2013, 03:38:39 PM
Woods should definitely have been DQ'd. He knows it and the masters committee know it. They stretched the interpretation of the law ridiculously far in order to save Woods.

He deliberately gained an advantage by dropping his ball two yards further back, (something he freely admitted to) and then signed for the wrong score. It doesn't compare with the Harrington one as Padraig genuinely didn't know his ball had moved and had gained no advantage whatsoever.

At best he didn't know the rule, which is absolutely no reason to allow a reprieve in this case. If Woods doesn't realise that purposely giving yourself an easier shot is against the rules he is a fucking idiot.

I'm not saying there isn't, but in his formative years and really at the start of a 30-40year career, he decided to take the fast buck early which means he is now playing with equipment that might not suit him.

Yes, poor decision, but not one that will set him back more than a year or so.

Imagine The Masters without Tiger.  Hard to believe they only allowed black members in 1990 & only allowed women members in 2012.  I have never understood why The Masters is classed as a major, it's by invitation only, how does that work then?

I find betting e/w on the golf the most fulfilling and best value out of all sports bets.

I normally have a few players at the start of the tournament and then a couple more after round 1 or 2.

When he first came to fame at Lytham in 98 he was described as a Villa fan, I'm certain. He then turned pro and went rapidly downhill, on his return to form he was then a Chelsea fan. Curious, and I'd love to know the truth.
