Title: Villa back in Dublin.
Post by: gervilla on April 01, 2013, 09:37:51 PM
I've just seen this on the Irish Lions site.
http://astonvilla.ie/shamrock-rovers-vs-aston-villa-august-2013/
Baby number 2 will have just landed roughly 4 weeks before and Mrs Gervilla will be at the Indiependance music festival to make up for 9 month of not drinking but I'm determined to make it.

Yeah just heard that myself. It was fantastic last time and we'll there again.

The last one against Bohs in 2010 was brilliant!

I can't wait.

Yes it was. The walk from Murray's Bar to the ground was superb.

It was a rare sunny day too. Thought there was an odd atmosphere at the game. It kind of felt like 'The End' of that era didn't it?

I can't say I noticed at the time to be honest.  It was just a really good day and the Irish lads made us really welcome. 'The End' of that era game for me was a home freindly against some foreign team or another. The atmosphere was really subdued.

Valencia. Appalling game, nobody was interested. Can't believe it was on telly too.

That's the Bank Holiday weekend in EIRE, I think Blur are playing Kilmainham that weekend too so might be worth a trip back.
Missed the Bohs game in '10 as I was marking exam scripts but this would be good. It will probably be Enda Steven's next appearance (maybe back for Rovers)!

I said at the time that the way he walked across the pitch from the tunnel to the dug out, his manner throughout the match and then walking straight back across the pitch at the end of the game showed that it was not the MON of previous months. He never acknowledged the fans at all during the entire afternoon.

The best piece of news I've heard for a long time.  I can't wait.  I was at Boh's  back in 2010 but didn't make Murray's.  I'm already organising a weekend up with my daughter, Mrs S has said she will be requesting the weekend off. One thing though, you won't walk to Tallaght, it's a bit too far.

The thing that sticks out in my memory of that time which I thought was a bit odd was, MON wore a suit during the game and not a tracksuit, I'd never noticed him do that before.

I think by the time this particular match had rolled around he had already made his mind up that he was going to walk out on the club.  I watched some interviews that he did on AVTV at the time and remember feeling that he seemed quite distant and world-weary.

Wasn't it at his pre-match conference in Dublin that MON revealed that Milner wanted to leave? Which, according to some later stories, Milner was pretty pissed off about.

As for Dublin , been meaning to take a few days there and the Wicklow mountains  for ages , this could be the perfect time.

Great news. Tallaght is much more of a trek from that pub on O'Connell Street btw, so you could well need a few piss stops on the way if any of you are planning on imbibing.....

Will have to sort that out soon! Things are a bit hectic with work and travelling between here and galway for gigs etc, but definitely must catch up soon!

A question for our Irish contingent; can you guys recommend any decent and cheap hotels? I'm not fussy other than it should be clean at least. Plus, will there be a H&V section attending?
