I think they've edged it so far.  They've been working very hard to close us down when we have possession.  It'll be interesting to see if they can keep that work rate up for 90 minutes.

In fairness, the pitch is hardly conducive to a passing style.

If Swampy saw it, he'd be campaigning for somebody to build a road through it.

Zounds! That was close!

There have been some tasty challenges in midfield, plenty of effort too. This may depend upon the subs bench.

their defense look shattered, have been having to chase after Robinson a lot though, I'm really impressed by him.

Grealish we mostly knew about and he also looks a top prospect, along with Donacien who i mentioned early on.  I reckon all 3 have got the ability to make it, we need to get them mentally right for the step up though.

No Small Heath are.

So let me get this in proportion the technically accomplished unlucky but superior team are now 3-1 down to a team that beat them 5-1 in the group stages. And they've lost their shape...

I think we have been excellent all game. Even in the first half we looked dangerous and never really allowed them to create any clear threats, just half chances. Robinson was superb and always looked dangerous. We looked great on the ball and unlike Sporting looked confident and composed when we didn't have it. I don't think the pitch helped us as we looked the better footballing side capable of passing through them to create chances. A good win and hopefully we can replicate it in the final.

ha ha

In all seriousness. That lads did very well. Sporting looked a decent outfit, but I'm not sure they were mentally strong. Our lads looked technical, well drilled and strong.

I reckon Robson will have us 3rd favourites behind Arsenal. The other thing Is I'd like all our lads shake hands with the Chelsea lads , but whisper I'll bet you anything you like I'll get a game for the Villa 3 seasons before you make the bench at your place

Have only read last page but have to say I thought Robson was fair with his comments. Sporting were technically the better team but Villa battled well and rode their luck. In extra time we stayed strong and were the better team. Robinson was superb IMHO, did a great job for the team. Was looking forward to seeing Grealish. He certainly has talent on the ball, doesnt look the fastest lad, but hopefully will have a future. Carruthers started poorly IMHO, but grew stronger and stronger, except for his dead ball choices. Robson mentioned all of these players, especially Robinson. I thought the number 5 (sorry cant remember his name) did really well at times, the lad next to him as well. Didnt see the first game, but nice to see an English team of mainly British players doing so well. I heard Robson mentioning that most of the Chelsea and Arsenal players were foreign.

I thought Donacien had a great game in defence, looks a real good prospect and to think only 12 months ago he had all that trouble with getting UK residency and could have been forced to quit playing for Villa. I bet no ones family will be prouder than his on Monday.

Yes Donacien looked composed and authoratitive but Robinson looked as if he has got the skills required at the highest level already. But so did Luke Moore at his age . Wasnt over impressed with Samir Carruthers for most of the match but he improved in the later stages of the game.

That big Portugese centre half (with the dreads looks) as if he could make it as well.

Cant wait for Monday.
