Sunday 31st March 2013 KO 1:30pm
1-1
Benteke (31)
Downing (68) [spits]
-
1-2 Im afraid gents . Suarez two for them Agbonlahor one for us.
-
1-1 Benteke.
-
One all for me too
-
Villa 2 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' 1
-
0-0 bore draw
-
2 teams both with split personalities...the result will depend on which Liverpool turn up and how many mistakes we make at the back.
A draw would not be a bad result.
-
1-1 for me too.
-
Lets roll back the years to a Wednesday night many years ago - maybe the best game I have ever seen - ...... was it 5-1?
I would take that Sunday ! And that was against a good Pool side - these are beatable

December 15th 1976. I was there ... pity ITV weren't (Derek Hales was apparently the bigger TV draw).
For Easter Sunday, it really depends whether the RedScouse can get Suarez well supplied (is he eligible and fit to play?) and whether Lambert can continue the hex on Rodgers.
Can Villa win three in a row? - My view is that we will get at least a point, possibly three (2-1 to Villa).
-
A draw would be a decent result I think 2-2

It was 5-1 at half time - we felt sorry for them second half - plus Emlyn Hughes was so pissed off he did all he could to stop us scoring more.

Us 3 Them 2

For no reason other than blind intuition 4-2 villa. C'mon you Lions!

Would love it to happen again Michael, i think this will be a close game , 2-1 villa win which would send us into great delight - lets do it!
-
3-1 Villa
-
2-2
-
3-1 Villa
-
3-1 home win, I can see Gabby running riot on Sunday for some reason.
-
We need to stop the racist scumbag Suarez, stop making daft mistakes at the back and (hardest one of all, this) also stop Gerrard from reffing the game.
-
A lot of my friends that follow them seem to think we'll turn them over, and I wouldn't be surprised considering we seem to play better against 'footballing' sides such as Swansea, Reading, and Liverpool themselves.
-
2-2, think they'll get a 90 + equaliser aswell.
Their front trio will be tough for our defence, plenty of pace and movement there but I really don't think the rest of their side is that great at all and Benteke bullied their back 4 at Anfield so with added attacking support help he can do again.
A point here and at Stoke would be fine imo as long as we beat Fulham.
-
I think the team will have gained a lot of confidence from the Reading and QPR wins so I wouldn't be surprised to see a win for us but unfortunately not a clean sheet. 3 - 2 to for us.
Benteke 41, Downing OG 61, Gabby 79.
Who cares for them.
-
Just as long as it is not a repeat of the tripe last season!
We spent the second half laughing sadly at the Villa until a circus came on for 17 minutes to brighten our day in the shape of their (then) £35m donkey...
2-0 the Villa - no messin' lads
-
after watching them against soton I think 1-0 Villa.
-
1-1 for me. Which I'd take. Is it sad that I'm very much looking forward to giving Downing a good boo?
-
-
Villa and Liverpool are both capable of putting in very good performances and also abysmal ones. It probably will end up coming down to whether or not Suarez has a good day or not. I assume a loss , would be delighted with a point.
-
Let's double another team and get their manager sacked. Nice fella though he is.

He is a very good manager I think but a strange strange bloke.

-
if memory serves me right...and I am old, i seem to remember late 70's on a Easter monday, beating Liverpool 3-1 at home! or maybe i just dreamt that.
So lets hope for something similar, but I would settle for a point.
-
A very good manager? Really?
-
We go into the game with a slight advantage over those around us in that they will all have played and we know what we need to do. On paper, other results should go our way which would allow us to be less nervous about this game. If Norwich can do something at Wigan we could give ourselves a great chance of putting a big margin between us and them and leap frog Southampton and Sunderland too.
2-1 Villa.
-
I'd take a draw - 2-2, with the rat on the wing supplying the rabbit faced racist cheat for both of theirs. I'd hope Suarez would get sent off for diving but the ref, Lee Mason (http://www.worldfootball.net/schiedsrichter/eng-premier-league-2012-2013/1/), hasn't sent anyone off this season so he'll probably get away with it. Should we have a 'guess-how-many-people-turn-up-for-kick-off-at-half-time-because-they-forgot-to-put-their-clocks-forward' poll?
-
No idea we could win 4-1, draw 2-2 or lose 1-5.
-
1-0 Gerrard (og) then he gets sent off for disputing the decision, saying it should have been a goal at the other end!
-
Already doumented by PL that last week was the first time in 2 years we had recorded back to back wins - how long since we did 3 on the bounce?
I fancy us so 2-0
-
2-0
I really think we will win this.
-
1-1
Benteke for us
Gerrard penalty after a Suarez dive for the bindippers
-
I think we'll win this too ...
2-1
Whi cares about the scorers anymore !!
-
I think we will be 2-1 up with 10 mins to go and it end 2 - 2 with us all really upset we threw it away...
-
I'm looking forward to a really exciting game.
Villa 7 (Benteke 3, Weimann 2, Bennett, Lerner)
Liverpool 4 (John, Paul, George, Sylla(og))
-
2-2
Weimann and Benteke for us
Suarez and a late late Gerrard free kick or penalty for them (with it not being a foul)
-
2-2 on Sunday I reckon. As for that famous night of 15th December 1976, I have always wondered how Derby and Derek Hales got on. I'm sure I heard somewhere it was a 0-0 draw.
-

It was. As Gary Newbon said, "I said in the M&B box at Villa Park with a pie and a pint and my heart sank with every goal."
-
Cheers Dave. Can you answer my questions a bit quicker though in future? If I have to hang around for three minutes and seven seconds every time I just won't bother asking.
-
1-0 early, then praying 4 the ref to blow the whistle............aggy
-

As I remember it we were 4-0 up after 20mins....and Keegan booked for dissent!. I think Ray Kennedy scored for them?
-
I thought footage of the 5-1 had been unearthed in recent years. Probably dodgy footage - the mid-70's equivalent of ITV recording FA Cup games from amongst the crowd on a Nokia 600 but it'd be summat.
-
Depends which Liverpool show up. I'd take a draw though.
-
I went for a draw but think we can take all 3 points!
-
If both Clark and baker are injured I can't see us conceding less than two.id hope that baker's injury isn't too serious. Clark seems to have a shoulder problem.
-
Liverpool are eminently beatable. However they won't be as poor as they were against Southampton again and if they play well they should beat us in all honesty.
Should be a high-scoring game, I just fancy our defence to be slightly worse than theirs.
-

Very little info about why Clark went off, but it is concerning. Baker was concussed wasn't he? I imagine he will be fine by now?
-
3-2 to the Villa Benteke (2) Lowton.
-

Absolutely spot on. Believe it was Easter Monday 1979 and we did beat them 3-1 were 2 up at half time. Remember Dixie Deehan beating the offside trap with a run through from half way and "megging" Clemence. Think they conceded only 16 goals all season on their way to the title?
1-1 draw for me. Benteke and Saurez
-
2-1 Villa
Benteke 14
Weimann 78
Suarez 51
Villa park packed to the rafters and rocking!!!
Come on you Lions!!!
-
3-2 Racist FC, unfortunately.
-
2-1 to us. Benteke with both of ours and Suarez for them.
-
0-0.
Yes, you read that right, a Villa clean sheet. Probability says it has to happen one day.

I agree baker should have recovered by now. A shoulder problem could mean anything though for Clark
-
2 nil villa, Benteke and another...easy, last on MotD, all wanker punditry about diving scumbag not villas 3 on the bounce
-
Nearly a sell out, can't wait now UTV
-
I'll go for an entertaining 2-2 draw; Benteke with both for us and some horrible little racist bastard with a couple for them... Downing to have a stinker too!
-
0-3 To them
Wigan will win and we will be right back in it.
-
0-3 To them
Wigan will win and we will be right back in it.
That's the spirit.

Sounds about right to me.
-
I recall watching from the Witton a 2-0 win at the end of the 1994-5 season, when we we struggling under Brian Little. Brace for Yorkie. Liverpool had nothing to play for and did not put up much of a fight.
-
nearly a full house, on the telly, Bindippers to win sadly 2-1 and the shite starts again in Cambs and on SKY about getting a non-Champions league place...
I fucking hate the plastic delusional never been to a game red scouse wankers down here.

I managed to get extra tickets in the Upper TR for a colleague and his two kids. However, there's mainly only single seats available
-
I have a feeling we'll lose this one sadly, I just hope Wigan, Sunderland, Southampton, Reading and QPR lose as well.
-
We'll batter 'em!
-
I'd take a draw, 4pts off the Bindippers in a season is a good return. That said, I'd get the lads to watch the game again to inspire them to do it again. We're bound to win, I've had to give mine and the lads season ticket up to be at a wedding. We always do better when I don't go!
-
Good old Lawro and his predictions Sunderland, bottom of the form guide and without their top striker will hold ManU, top of the league by a mile and top of the form guide to a draw.
'The Mighty Reds YNWA', same points in the form guide as Villa , in front on gd will beat villa 2-0
-
As if Lawro is ever going to run down one of his media buddies in O'Neill.
-
Sir Alex is resting several of his regular players against Sunderland so they are fresh for the cup match against Chelsea on Monday.
-
0-3 Robbie Fowler hat trick
-
Impossible to call this one.
Two teams who are very, very unpredictable.
-

Sunderland are still shit though. Plus MON record in March is still living up to its usual standards.

@JamesNursey: #AVFC look set to have a strong squad for run-in as Delph served ban, Bent & Baker & El Ahmadi fit & Albrighton back in training
-
Glad some of the squad are back from injury, no doubt Gerrard will take a dive for a penalty, one of our players will be in The Sun on saturday linked with Liverpool.
1-1
-

Bent fit eh?
Any news on Clark? I've not heard any suggestion he is out, but he had to come off in the week.
I'd stick to the 433 to begin with, CNZ to come on as the game opens up second half. Probably Delph in for Bannan I think. Would be a bit weird to play Delph or Bannan on the right of the three, although we've done it before.
-
You should'nt change a winning side really but i've a sneaky feeling he'll put Delph in for Sylla.
-

Delph for bannan if it was me.
With sylla and Westwood in the side it would give Delph a bit more freedom to go forward.

Injury update
Darren Bent is back in contention for the big Easter Sunday clash with Liverpool.
Bent has recovered from a foot injury and a flu bug and trained this morning after missing the Reading and QPR games.
Karim El Ahmadi is also available after missing the QPR clash with an ankle issue.
Nathan Baker had to come off in the 3-2 win over Harry Redknapp's side due to concussion but the brave centre-half is going to be fine for Sunday.
Fabian Delph missed the Reading and QPR games through suspension but he will give Paul Lambert a boost by making himself available.
Ciaran Clark and Brett Holman are the only doubts for the Reds encounter.
Clark injured his shoulder in the latter stages of Republic of Ireland's clash with Austria while Holman is nursing a hamstring problem.
Both internationals will face late fitness tests as Lambert waits nervously over their availability.
Lambert said: "Most of the lads came back today and we'll see how they are.
"There are one or two with little niggles.
"Ciaran came off for Ireland. Brett never trained this morning. We will see how those two lads are.
"Fabian is back from his suspension and Karim is back fit.
"Darren is back. He had a little flu bug last week but he is okay.
"He trained this morning."
On Baker, he joked: "Nathan landed on his head so he is alright!
"He will throw his body at things and will go and compete.
Off the pitch he is a different lad, a quiet lad. But when it's a matchday, he will certainly throw himself into things and put his head in.
He has had some terrific blocks for us throughout the season. He is a young lad who is learning but in the last few weeks he has been excellent for us."
In other positive news, Marc Albrighton - who has been out for two months with a broken foot - returned to full training this week.
But the boss sounded a note of caution regarding a quick recall.
He added: "Marc has trained the last few days but it is still a big ask because he has been out for three months."

2-1 Villa

Suarez 51
Villa park packed to the rafters and rocking!!!

Sounds about right to me.
Score and scorers, agreed.
I forsee a different route to the win, though, perhaps a little more like this:
Suarez 3 (blatant handball, ref doesn't see)
Benteke 45+2 (goalmouth scramble)
Weimann 82 (nutmegs Reina from 15 yards).
At 84 minutes there will be a protracted Suarez "injury" after he trips over a blade of grass (but somehow contrives to get Delph sent off for it), ending with whistle at 90+7 after Liverpool get 8 on target but fail to score against our ten men.
-

Absolutely this
-
Barring injuries i'd keep the same side that won the last 2 games.
-
2-1 Villa.
-
Barring injuries i'd keep the same side that won the last 2 games.
I tend to agree. However if Bannan isnt influencing the game in any way by half time I would have Delph on for the second half.
-
I would bring Delph back in and if Clark is out, I would go with:
Guzan
Lowton Vlaar Baker Bennett
Sylla Westwood Delph
Weimann Benteke Gabby
I thought Bannan did fine in the last two games, but I did feel we were lacking a a dynamic presence in midfield. For all his faults, Delph does give us that.
-
Better have an ambulance waiting for me on the Trinity Road if it does go like that Rodders!

United have such a strong squad they can easily rest 6 or 7 and still pick a team to rip sunderland apart- they remember th way sunderland fans celebrated when utd missed out in the last minute last season - i expect united to hammer them!
-
Think Benteke will be to much for a poor Liverpool defence, backed up by Weimann and Gabby. Just worried by our defence. 3-2 would be excellent ........
-

Yes but Old Whingealot himself still picks players who he thinks will do a job. Hernadez and Rooney + Young should have enough to back a couple v MONsunderland
According to Lawro QPR would be sixth - yep Top 6 side based on his predictions
-
Lawro is in a Redknapp and O'Neill spitroast.
-
2-1 Villa win.
-
The last time I saw us win a league game was v Fulham last season (which must be just over a year ago now?) so fingers crossed!!

I never worry about our attack. The only reason to be nervous is we don't know how many we'll concede.

Lowton - Vlaar -Clark -Baker is our strongest backline. Bennet is suspect and Lowton is a card away from a two match ban. Hope they have been working on things at Bodymoor. This is make or break for our survival ....
-
Its not make or break but picking something up would be a real boost.
I do think we'll get something from the game and I'll be cheering the boys on from a bar in Majorca.

I was not saying make or break for this game but in context to the run in of games of the season. We can score goals but keeping clean sheets could be crucial .....
-
The other games today are almost as important as this one.
-
Three points tomorrow would go a long way to securing our season. It's in our hands & I'm confident about tomorrow.
UTV
-
2-0 to us.
-
The other games today are almost as important as this one.
Agreed, not feeling massively confident for the Liverpool game but just looking at today's fixtures and it could be a very good for us(with a slight potential to be very bad). Just need to take advantage of it and we can both pull away and drag others into the fight.
-
Less than 1,000 tickets left according to the OS
-
Win and it would be our first 'double' over Liverpool since 92-93. Im getting a good feeling about this...
-
After today's results we need something now.
-
Win and it would be our first 'double' over Liverpool since 92-93. Im getting a good feeling about this...
Me too. Two very unpredictable teams, neither very good. I can't understand those that think we'll get spanked. FFS it's only bloody Liverpool. Get in their faces and they'll fall apart.
-
Don't forget the clocks go forward tonight.
-
Dear Lord of all that is fair in football give us a win tomorrow!
-
Could really do with winning this.
-
Still undecided what the result will be. Haven't had a great feeling about the game since they lost to Soton as I expect them to respond. But with it looking like we will get a good crowd, it has raised my optimism a tad. I'll still go for 2-1 to them. With them getting a late goal (Stevie G getting it no doubt).
-
I don't like having the pressure on us now. Todays results, and then a TV game a day after is not good. More often than not when we really need to pull out a result we bottle it. I'm hoping it's not the case after 2 on the spin. I'll take a point from this. Liverpool are there for the taking though so we should go for it. The trouble is nerves, tension.
Bloody Wigan. Bloody Southampton. Bastards.
I really hope the kids do us proud tomorrow.
-

To be fair though, the West Ham game was as high pressure as they come and we just about did it. That hopefully put our live TV jinx behind us (seeing as we gave a decent showing against Citeh too). Not too mention the QPR game which although not televised, was still probably the most high intensity, nerve-shredding, heart-attack inducing game played at VP for many a year. I think the players have grown a pair in the last month or so. Still not very confident about tomorrow, but if we do lose it is unlikely to be because we 'bottle it' IMO.
-
Hope we absolutely pummel these scouse twats and that rat faced racist fucker. Can't stand them and their self pitying ways.
-
The pressure has been on the team for some time now and think they have responded well to it. The Wigan result today was a bitch, but lets beat the red scouse shite and things will be looking much brighter.
-
Huge game today. I'm not sure we can defend well enough to win this one though. Draw at best.
-
From the O/S yesterday.
There are now less than 1,000 tickets left for the big Easter Sunday clash with Liverpool.
Fans have been snapping up seats over the last few days at an electric rate, with over 1,000 sold each day - and 200 already this morning.
Seats are now extremely limited in all areas of the ground.
The Ticket Office will reopen at 9am on Sunday prior to kick-off.
But you can also get online now and snap up your seat from the online box office.
We urge supporters who were planning to buy tickets on the day of the game to check availability before travelling to the match.
Fans are advised to set out earlier than usual to get to the game due to the ongoing poor weather conditions.
Please also be advised that there are planned engineering works on the railways, which will disrupt journeys.
And clocks go forward in the early hours of Sunday so please be sure to account for this time-change.
-

I don't think we will. But we could. Liverpool gave stuck four or more past Wigan, Swansea, norwich and Fulham. I think they've scored more goals per game at this stage than they've done for years (mid nineties?) and this villa defence is the worst I think I've seen
-
Looking like it will be maybe a sell out today - nice blue sky , chocolate eggs, full house at villa park and a great win - what a good day could lie ahead - i feel confident about this one 3-1 villa!
-
I really hope we can get on the front foot. Lambert has an excellent record against Rogers through doing just that. I'm just having nightmares about the ability of our defence to cope with their movement.
-
Lets hope joe Bennett has a decent game after last nights upset -
@joebennett27: Idiot trying 2burgle my house kicking the gates down in middle of the night not a gd start to Easter sund! Lets hope things get better!
-
Obviously some of the dippers came down early :)
-
If he plays Delph instead of Bannan, he'll most likely play him in a more forward role, in which case at 25/1 he might be worth a couple of quid for first goalscorer.

Prefer to put a fiver on benteke or Weimann- both on a hot streak at the moment .

I don't sell every game but when I do that tends to be my spot. And please do, it's always nice to put a face to a name. Same for you eastie.

Maybe we should have a photo section in the whos who thread where we can all add our pic in a villa shirt - always makes me smile the image i get in my mind of some posters .

Huge game today. Starting to get a bit nervous!
-
I'm not feeling nerves today - I'm not sure liverpool will be as up for this game as we will be - a win here would really be superb.
-
We have got to stop gifting sides goals. Come on Villa!
-
Are the Bindippers down by the offlicence drinking cans of Special Brew already ?
-
Time to head off otherwise Dave doesn't give us our gruel. Come on you Villa boys!
UTV
-
2-1 villa.
-
In the pub trying to sink the requisite 3 pints of Ubu prior to boarding the train.
Fucking Sky.
There will be goals. I think We will lose this one.
-
Clark out according to James Nursey.
-
Got a bad feeling about this one .
-
Clark is out. I'm also surprised he's keeping the same midfield three. I thought delph has been the pick of the midfield recently.
Still, bannan and weimann are our lucky mascots
I guess we'll get a feel for whether baker is a better bet than Clark at centre back as many feel. I'm not convinced personally. I also hope Bennett is fully committed and alert as downing has been playing well recently.
-
Us 2 - 2 Them
Two first half goals and then the defence collapsed.
Big Ben and Wee Man for us. English cheat and Uruguayan diver for them.
-
Page three of the match thread before we get the first 'get Bannan of for Delph' post is my guess
-
Ron 'BFR' Atkinson was on the radio whilst I was making me breakfast-the last time we did the double over l''The Mighty Reds YNWA' was with him at the helm in 92/93 season!
also if we win this it will be our first 3 win streak since 1643 or something -so i've gone for a draw
oh 1-1 i think
