Good to see the Beeb reminding the world..
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21492352
-
there will be millions of people worldwide reading that, thinking, we used to be called Newton Heath!
-
Also an Henry Winter article in the Telegraph.
-
A pity there's no mention of the McGregor statue - would have been a useful reminder of a man not forgotten during these times of Skysville.
-
125 years on it's our duty to return to the Football League.
A parent sacrificing everything they've worked hard for to help out the oldest of their children, who has got in with the wrong crowd!

I think this may be my facebook status if we go down.

Henry Winter's piece:

Lovely stuff, added to my facebook page

Aston Villa invented football.
-
I enjoyed Henry's article a lot. Many thanks for the link. The BBC cannot mention football without referring to Manchester Fucking United within the first paragraph e.g. Football Focus, every Saturday, guaranteed MU feature.

And the Telegraph used a big picture of George Best, who was probably as far away from McGregor's model player as you can get.
-
Cheers Bren-enjoyed that.
-
I tweeted him and his response was "I always walk past the McGregor stue and think I wouldn't be doing this without you, so thanks". Henry Winter has gone up a lot in my estimation today !!!

So true. I see the first comment under Henry's piece makes the point very well, too.
-
Nice nod. Could have mentioned our statue.

I have generally found Henry Winter to have a healthy respect for the club and our supporters.
-
In my view, Henry Winter is an increasingly rare specimen - measured, articulate and not pandering to populist tastes. He'd better not disillusion me and ghost write Wayne Rooney's next autobiography. Though he can be excused on the grounds of having bills to pay.

Me too.
The only blot on his record, in my opinion, is his fawning love for Martin O'Neill.

I once wrote to him to complain about an article he wrote saying why it would be a good thing if Brian Little went from being the Villa manager to Newcastle - there must have been some rumour doing the rounds at the time - and he wrote me a personal response in which he apologised and agreed with everything I said about why Villa were a bigger club etc! I've liked him ever since

yeah, and he probably wrote another article somewhere else saying the opposite.
