Open a bottle of wine and stick on a dvd of one of our cup final wins - you will feel better for it my friend!
-
It is very painful not only was this a great opportunity, but also the league is looking very bleak as well.
-
Absolute joke that we are not there today. Yet the person responsibile is still in charge and is going to take us down Pathetic!
I feel really angry today
-
Saw a bit of the build up earlier and it just reminded me of what a big chance we missed out on and I still find it hard to believe that we were beaten by a League 2 team over two legs.
-
It's crap we aren't there today but hardly the end of the world. I hope the Bradford and Swansea fans have the time of their lives. For us it would have 'just' been another cup final, for them it's the biggest day of their supporting lives, and may well be the biggest they'll ever have. We'll have more finals.
-
Who knows how long it will be before we get such a chance to win a wembley cup final again - 17 years so far since the last trophy and could be a lot longer yet.
-
Probably in the minority here but given the situation we're in currently i'm not too bothered. Teams that get to the final often find their league form disappear - would we have beaten west ham or drawn with everton with players trying not to get injured for the final? Not to mention injuries on the notorious tiring wembley pitch. Just have to look at TSM's win with small heath to see it can affect your league form. If we stay up, then i'll be happy with the trade off.

And since then 2 finals and a few semi finals. Most people think we are complete wank this season and we still reached a SF. How many have Swansea and Bradford reached in the last 50 years? Or 100?

In the last 12 years we have competed in a grand total of 2 cup finals, winning neither. Today isn't 'just' another cup final, it's a golden opportunity that we pissed away.

Winning trophies is what we all want , sods law that we would have got and probably beaten swansea this year having played chelsea and man u in our last two finals.

Agreed , it was a final we would have had a real chance of winning .
-
Good luck to Bradford - it happened, we lost, move on.
We've got more excitement with a relegation battle to look forward to. Bradford will be jealous.
-
we weren't good enough to beat a league 4 side over 180 mins. we don't deserve to be at wembley

It's what I want too. We've blown plenty of other chances over the years, but we'll also keep having more chances, Bradford and Swansea quite possibly won't. So for their fans i'm delighted.
-
I truly hope Bradford can do it. Was listening to an interview on 5live earlier with Terry Yorath about the fire in 1985. Truly emotional stuff.

It's one of the reasons i'm as chilled as I am about today. I remember watching that as it happened and it still disturbs me.
-
Dont mind who wins , im looking forward to watching the game , i like both teams and its nice to see a final without the so called big 4.

Mumbles?

Let them enjoy their day good luck to either side

A lot of sarcasm was put into that post. I'm gutted we're not there too to be honest.

It's bloody bitter out, better to be at home in the warm than freezing our bollocks off in London.
-
I nearly bought a flight home for this weekend when the draw was made. The prices put me off in the end. How shit would it have been to still be here, on the back of what happened, losing to Arsenal and then having to sit through today?
Looking back as crap as it will feel, we've got to finals before, played better teams and won. We've got to them before and lost, so there's no exact science on how you get there, or how we'll perform on the day. We need to worry about staying up now as depressing as that sounds. I'll just watch the highlights of today's game now instead, but for the two teams that are there and their fans I hope they have a cracking day out whoever wins.
-
Today is a very very bad day for all of us. A win yesterday could have softened the blow but here we are!
In the Arsenal match programme they had an article about Ted Drake's 7 goals at VP in 1935 and how the press described Villa as having a wretched season full of record negative results. Feels like we are there again.
-

Hours in traffic or on train trying to get there - hours in car park trying to get out or wait for a train on a freezing platform.
Best part of £200 saved.
Not having to moan about stupid prices for drinks and food.
Not having to stand up to see the game because even though they spent £900 million or more they couldn't employ an architect who could work out the correct height to put the seats at. Or queuing for toilets that overflow despite all the money spent.
Not having to endure another poor referee giving us nothing.
Not having to endure a load of Welsh sheep worriers singing bloody hymns and f**ing arias.
I'm sorry younger H&V readers won't have the same experience we had as youngsters - but then I remembered 0-0 vs Everton.
Different priorities this season - and if we don't stay up at least we will have some good cup games next season, if we draw a Premier team, who won't fancy a trip to Villa Park.
Just putting on my tin hat! Yes I know I'm now a miserable old bugger!

No offence intended, Kippax and other weepy Wembley missers, but man the fuck up / borrow a pair / strap one on / whatever.
We got to the semi final, we didn't reach the final. We were shit across two legs of the semi final, and that's why we're all at home rather than at Wembley today.
It happens, we've done it god knows how many times before. I'd rather we'd gone through, but hey ho, we didn't.
Surely we've got enough competing reasons to feel suicidal about Villa already? In particular the one we seem to be en route to encounter in 11 games time.
-
I'm not hurting. We would be the underdogs today and theres every chance we would have lost. People will say its a day out but with the cost i just don't enjoy it when we lose.
-
I'm not sure this post will help but this has been my least enjoyable season ever since following villa in 77/78.
Wretched season, team and manager.

I will reserve judgement until may but it is certainly in contention, whatever happens in the last 11 games its been a huge disappointment this season and i will be glad to see it end.

Hearing Barry Fry waffling on is painful.
-
I just hope Bradford don't get twatted.
-
Meh. Shit happens.
Arsenal fans are probably saying the same thing.
-
... Teams that get to the final often find their league form disappear ...
But with us, that's a good thing; right?
Any change in league form would have been a good reason to go to the final!
-
I just hope Bradford don't get twatted.
And getting twatted they are.
-
I reckon we'd be getting as twatted if we were there.
-
I think we might have stood a chance against Swansea today, but we'll never know. Doubt if we'll be in a semi final or final again for a long long time.
-
I have no doubt we'll be in at least one major semi final over the next few seasons.
-
Most likely play off semi finals.

Johnsons Paint ?

I'm guessing the word MAJOR is proving problematic ;)
-
A fantastic opportunity to do something in both cups this year was wasted. The fact that we are so shit in the league almost deflects any criticism away from our cup performances.
Millwall and Bradford were shocking results but they hardly seem to register on our disaster scale this season, particularly Millwall. Show's how low we've sunk.
I was gutted yesterday.

Everything is shit and will always be shit.
Didn't you know?
-
I am not sure how the certainty of losing to yet another late goal, after getting our hopes up and shelling out big bucks, is an experience we should cry too many tears about missing.
It is ironic that Villa's best chance of winning a trophy should arrive exactly at the time when the club is so happily sawing away at the branch it is sitting on but when a club has so criminally cocked a snook at the words of its own motto, no one can deny that they deserved their fate.
My own disappointment was that Bradford lost by such a big margin, which robbed them of any consolation they might have deserved.
-
Its ok, We've got 11 cup finals left :)

The Millwall game was abysmal.
Both teams should have been knocked out and banned from next years competition.
-
What's done is done. Swansea did what both we and Arsenal should have done on Sunday. Bradford deserved thier day out, Swansea will never win an easier final again.
Our boys gave it a good go at the Emirates on Saturday, Man City next (oh dear), at home (oh dear, oh dear) lets see whether we can just about claw our way back out of the crap and stay in this league, the cup is an irelevance compared to Premier League status.
I wouldn't like to be seen as 'giant killers' when we win our FA Cup 3rd Round Tie against Wigan, Southampton or Cardiff next season!
-
I could barely listen to the build up yesterday let alone watch the game and seeing Swansea take Bradford to the cleaners merely highlighted our own shortcomings
Our failure to beat a 4th division side over two legs for a chance to play in a cup final will hurt for many years to come; hope Lambert and the players enjoyed their Sunday off - I know I didn't
-
Swansea sell their best players btw...Sigurdsson (o.k it was only a loan but he was excellent second half of the season) Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair all left on the eye of the season aswell as the manager who got them promoted.
Just shows it's not so much declining from selling players but how you replace them.
-
Am I alone in not really having given our semi final "performances" a second thought yesterday?
-
Yes we missed a great chance for silverware but our time will come again - this is a tremendous football club to support and great supporters who deserve the very best .
You only need to see this forum to see the love and affection people have for the club - its in our blood and i am very proud to be associated with aston villa and to be a member of such a wonderful forum - you are all special people and our day will come again!
-
I've just had a vision of Eastie hugging his kindle.

No you're not. If you ignore the CoC Cup final and pretend it isn't happening it's easy!
