Back in the day under Clueless (I think) we were away to Boro. We went ahead 4-0 and Phillips was arguing with one of their players who I remember was in tears at the end.
A Boro fan was that disgusted at the club and the players' performance that he ran down from his seat and threw his (season?) ticket at the bench and threw his scarf at the floor in front of them.
The impact of that moment by that fan reverberated around the whole club and city (my cousin lives in Boro).
The very next game the Boro misfits beat Mourinho's Chelsea 3-0.

Wasn't McLaren in charge?
And then got rewarded with the England Job?
-
Cattermole was the player.
Yes it was a brollyless mclaren .
-
Boro got to the europa final aswell that year.
Still look at them now.

Correct. I remember saying after that game "hopefully that result will put an end to those stupid McLaren for England rumours".
-
Luke Moore hattrick?
-
Why was their player crying? If it was Cattermole why was Philips making him cry!?!
-
Wasn't he crying because his hometown club was getting caned and he was a young 17/18 year old playing for his beloved club?
The tit!

We were ace that day - we were in some Boro hospitality & we were being bought drinks having being congratulated at the best side they'd seen at the Riverside all season.

It wasn't Phillips that made him cry it was Gavin McCann. They had an argument on the pitch after a tackle and McCann got in the lad's face and made him cry.
Then, as you said, a fan also ran on the pitch and threw his ticket at McClaren.
At the time I found it amusing that we brought such misery on a team.
Unfortunately, teams must find it funny when they hammer us now :(
-
Point is it sprung the players and manager to a reaction. Need something similar when we go 3-0 (from corners) and crosses in from our left hand side against Newcastle on Tuesday. I have absolutely no confidence that these players or manager can pull us out of this crisis.

They still went down.

I can't throw my season card away. If we lose to Newcastle I am leaving it next to the bottles of vodka and tablets to explain why I've topped myself.

It was definitely Phillips, not McCann.

Yeah, but the best part was they gave the poor bastard his season ticket back at the end of it all. Ha.
