Title: Proof of how weak we at the back....

DANNY Shittu revealed one of Aston Villa's defenders begged him for mercy after the defensive powerhouse scored from a corner in Millwall's FA Cup triumph on Friday.
Shittu produced a dominant performance at both ends of the pitch to inspire the Lions to a famous fourth round victory over the Premier League side in front of an ecstatic crowd at The Den.
The Millwall captain scored a crucial equaliser to cancel out Darren Bent's opener for the visitors - and he believed Paul Lambert's side were scared of his physical presence.
"I was surprised because most of their defenders were kind of small," Shittu said. "The guy they put on me looked really worried. In the second-half he was begging me not to score another goal.
"It was about time I scored. I think this is the first time the manager has told to go up for every set-piece and it was nice to be back up there again. I'm usually on the half-way line.
"Their whole team looked vulnerable. We expected more from them to be honest because they are a Premier League side. Don't get me wrong, they did well but they gave us time to play.
"Normally in the Championship you don't get that much time to bring the ball down. It was still a really hard game and it certainly wasn't easy.
"I'm enjoying playing for the club and I'm enjoying defending. This is what I do. We're really happy to have done this against a Premier League side."
John Marquis struck a late winner to secure Millwall's spot in the fifth round draw on Sunday and Shittu is hoping for another home tie.
He said: "I do not really mind who we draw, as long as we play them at The Den. Whoever comes here will find it very hard. These fans really get on the opposition's backs."

'Normally in the Championship you don't get that much time to bring the ball down.'

You know, I think we might be the worst run professional club in Britain. Other than Rangers of course. Seriously, to take what they have and do this to it - Lerner, Faulkner and their succession of managers have performed miracles.

Lichaj I thought but might be wrong.

We have no steal at all. 2 6"4 blokes in our team, one at the back and one at centre mid, and we would be a totally different proposition.

It is cringe-worthy to read though.

That quote is complete and utter bollocks! How anybody can imagine someone on the football pitch saying to an opposition player please do not score against us is seriously delusional.

If shittu did say that and i cant see it being made up then really whats said on the pitch should remain on the pitch .

Jesus H fucking titty christ, all we need now is for every single person who's ever played for Villa to be arrested in the Jimmy Savile investigation and the bad news for the year will be complete.

The way things are, the worst is I am not shocked by it. If for one second it was said, our mentality at set plays is clearly shot to bits.

I cant see anyone bothering to make that up , shittu is directly quoted - and nothing about villa surprises me .

The title of the thread says 'Proof', in no way is any of this hearsay, half-arsed bullshit proof of anything other than how much the media & some 'fans' are quick & determined to kick us when we are down.

I don't need Shittu or anyone else to point out the obvious, I just wish that Lerner would release funds to put it right.

Anybody else starting to go beyond anger? I posted something about this yesterday.

Last season made me so angry.

This season is actually starting to fascinate me. It is so so bad it is almost hard to be angry.

exactly the same here,  it doesn't seem real. The team has been in chaos from day one.

Crap thread with rubbish title starting with word "Proof" FFS haw useless are we on this forum to pick up any shit that's flying out there and take it as gospel? Can you seriously believe that any footballer on the pitch would utter those words to an opposition?

We know it's bollocks but the 'they looked so vulnerable everywhere' and instruction to attack set pieces because they 'looked small' etc is plausible because we can see that ourselves.

Vlaar 1.89m , Clark 1.88m, Bennett 1.77m, Lichaj 1.8m, Lowton 1.8m, N'Zogbia 1.70m, Westwood 1.75m, Delph 1.75m, Bent 1.8m, Weimann 1.79m

Averages out at 1.79m or just over 5'10" in yer old money.

Significantly though, take Vlaar and Clark out of the equation and the average shrinks to 5'9" . That's a small side, without wee Barry Bannan too.
Lack of height is something a lot of us mentioned before the season even started. Its also something Harry Redknapp sussed out years ago at Portsmouth, I recall him deliberately filling the side with tall, strong athletic players.

If we don't buy anyone it's difficult to correct. That's why I would put Clark in midfield when Dunne or Baker are fit to partner Vlaar.

(and I think the player marking Shittu was Lichaj according to quotes in the match thread)

Lichaj was  "marking" Shittu for their equaliser which seemed downright negligent to me, as Shittu was by far the most physically imposing player on the pitch. He should have been picked up by Vlaar.

I am not yet convinced by Vlaar but he would have been a more logical choice to take Shittu than Lichaj. I have no idea who was "marking" the bloke who scored their second.

Shittu is a player enjoying his last taste of the big time, so is making a name for himself with stuff like this. Let him have his 5 minutes while he can. Real pros don't come out with such boasts, they don't need to.

Shittu is out of order for this -

DANNY SHITTU has admitted Aston Villa’s defenders BEGGED him not to score another goal on Friday night.
The 6ft 3in Millwall powerhouse towered above tiny Villa to head in the equaliser from a corner in the Lions’ 2-1 FA Cup win.
Defender Shittu said: “I was surprised because their guys were really small and the player they put on me always looked really worried, so it was surprising.
“He was begging me not to get another goal.
“Villa did not look vulnerable just at the back — it was the whole team.”
Shittu was up against 5ft 10in Eric Lichaj and Matt Lowton, who is an inch taller.
And Millwall’s average height is 6ft — 3in taller than Villa’s.
The Lions star added: “We knew Villa were going to be a bit vulnerable and you could see it.
“The crowd also knew it and really got behind us and that affected them.
“We expected more because they are a Premier League side.
“They gave us time to play. Normally in the Championship you don’t get that time to bring the ball down.”
Villa’s defeat at The Den came just 72 hours after they were knocked out of the Capital One Cup semi-final 4-3 on aggregate by League Two Bradford.
They are also only one place and one point above the Premier League drop zone.
The fallen giants’ Achilles heel seems to be their inability to defend set-pieces.
Three of the four goals Bradford scored over two legs came from corners — as did Shittu’s equaliser on Friday.
Striker Andreas Weimann revealed the depth of despair in the Villa dressing room after their week of shame.
He said: “Every time a team gets a corner against us we feel they are going to score.
“We know we can play football because we’ve shown it but confidence isn’t at the highest when you don’t win games.
“We’re all hurting. We can understand the fans’ frustrations. They’ve been brilliant.
“We want to win, it’s not like we want to lose.
“We’ve noticed ourselves that the last few games we’ve been conceding from set-pieces.”
Villa host fellow strugglers Newcastle in the league on Tuesday.
And Millwall winger James Henry has taunted the Midlanders by telling them they must play better than they did at The Den.
He said: “Our previous game against Burnley was harder — even when we went behind we always fancied our chances.
“We knew if we could put the ball into the box we’d have half a chance of scoring.”
